expected to make a statement from the white house about the shooting rampage. when that happens, we will bring it to you in a special report from nbc news. right now, no clear motive. police spent the entire morning inside a home shared by the san bernardino suspects looking for clues. they have not ruled out terrorism. 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. his coworkers said he was well-liked. he abruptly left a holiday party and then returneded with his wife dressed in assault-style clothing. they killed 14 people. before the shooting, the couple left their six-month-old baby with a grandparent. police are going to have another news conference in the next hour and there will also be a vigil

held tonight. download the nbc washington app. >> that is the deadliest shooting since the sandy hook shooting in connecticut. gunfire erupted at the inland regional center around 11:00 a.m. 17 people were hurt. nearby loma linda hospital received five patients, two are in critical but stable condition. paramedics rushed six other patients to arrowhead regional. one has already been discharged. the hospital hasn't released the information on the other five. >> this shooting happened inside one of the largest nonprofits in california, the inland regional center is a huge complex with more than 600 employees. it serves tens of thousands of people with development disabilities. the shooting happened inside a conference room during an office

transportation board gets the say. they would create nearly 10 miles of hot lanes on i-66. these would not be new lanes but would become hot lanes in both directions during the peak driving periods. >> reporter: a relative calm in this community. it was back to business today in bladensburg after a bomb threat yesterday at the end of the school day. the student and staff that were still at the school were evacuated. police and bomb squad were dispatched. a floor by floor sweep was done and an unintended backpack was found on the fifth floor. bomb technicians examined that backpack and determined it was not explosive. the all-clear was given a short-time later. a robo call sent out a mess

president. we will get to the bottom of this and we are going to be vigilant as we always are in getting the facts before we issue any decisive judgments in terms of how this occurred. more broadly, as i said yesterday, we see the pref lens of these kind of mass shootings in this country. i think so many americans sometimes feel as if there is nothing we can do about it. we are fortunate enough to have an extraordinary combination of law enforcement and intelligence and military that work every single day to keep us safe. but we can't just leave it to our professionals to deal with

the problem of these kinds of horrible killings. we all have a part to play. as the investigation moves forward, it is going to be important for all of us, including our legislatures to see what we can do to make sure that when individuals decide they want to do somebody harm, we make it a little harder for them to do it. right now, it is just too easy. is we're going to have to search ourselves as a society to make sure that we can take take basic steps to make it not impossible but harder for individuals to get access to weapons. so there will be a press conference later today led by the attorney general, director komi will continue to brief, not

we continue to follow developments in that deadly shooting in san bernardino, california. the president just spoke. only two shooters stormed into the inland regional center yesterday afternoon. the suspects, a man and woman, died in that shootout. relatives say they were married. >> 14 died and 17 were hurt in yesterday's shooting. so far, the fbi is not saying whether this shooting is connected to terrorism. now, we want to go to nbc's tracie potts with more on how lawmakers are reacting to the shooting. >> california democrats are frustrated. >> i feel like it is grandma day every day. it just keeps going on and on. >> reporter: president obama speaking publicly after more than a dozen shootings, says

we just heard president obama address the shooting spree. here is what he had to say just moments ago. >> it is possible that this was terrorist related. we don't know. it is also possible this was work place related. until the fbi has been able to conduct what are going to be a large number of interviews, until all the social media and electronic information has been exploited, we are not going to be able to answer those questions. >> right now, police cannot pinpoint a clear motive, whether it is terrorism, work place anger or a combination of the two. they searched all night inside the suspect's home. we know the 28-year-old, syed farook left a holiday party reportedly angry about something. he returned with his 27-year-old

wife, tashfeen malik. heavily armed with rifles and pistols legally purchased in this country. 14 died, several others remain in the hospital. two of them in critical condition. back to you, erika. the tragic events in san bernardino make it the deadliest shooting in years. 14 died in yesterday's attacks. sadly, this isn't the deadliest shooting we have seen. communities in colorado, virginia and connecticut know all too well what the people of san bernardino are feeling right now. in 1999, two students killed 12 others students and a teacher in columbine high school in littleton, colorado. in 2007, a 23-year-old virginia tech student shot 32 to death i blacksburg, virginia. 27 students and five faculty members died in 2012 during a

screening of a batman movie. a gunman opened fire in a crowded movie theater in aurora, colorado, killing 12 people. in december of that same year, 20 elementary school kids were shot to death inside sandy hook elementary school. six staff members also died that day. of course, we are no stranger to that kind of tragedy right here. 11 people were killed in the navy yard shooting. they have been gone more than two years now. >> when she was asked about shootings like the navy yard, d.c.'s police chief gave a strong response, run, hide, or fight. she stood by those words last night. news 4 talked to the chief at a police community engagement meeting where they helden aactive shooting simulation. >> you have three options if this happens. one, run and get out if you can. hide, barricade yourself behind a locked door if you can. if there is no other alternative, you can't get out, you can't hide, your other
