shot during the middle of a traffic stop. "news4's" megan mcgrath has new information about the officer hit. megan? >> reporter: well, eun, traffic stops are one of the most dangerous things that a police officer does. the officer is outside of their cruiser, they're on the side of the road, traffic is passing them by, often at speed. last night the worst-case scenario played out in rockville. a montgomery county police officer was hit while making a traffic stop. hit by a small suv and seriously injured. the officer pulled over the suv on 395 when he was hit. the drive over the suv did stay on the scene and was taken into custody. police are looking at the possibility that that driver was under the influence of alcohol. now, the officer who was struck has been on the force for less than five years and had just temporarily been assigned to the holiday alcohol task force. no updates on his condition yet this morning burke he was taken

to the hospital last night with serious injuries. back to you in the studio. >> thank you, megan. 5:18 and testimony picks fun ar second day in the freddie gray trial. prosecutors show two videos. he was shalked and was hurt in the back of the police van. the van was towed to the baltimore courthouse so jurors could see it yesterday. officers say porter violated policy by not buckling gray in. they say gray was intentionally banging his head against the inside of van. this man was one of four people who stole a car from inside the wheaton parking garage. all were men and they attacked the victim and took their keys. if you ride metro, you may want to hear the latest budget

i'm molette green at the live desk. they're standing by about a shooting involving one of their officers. set to happen within this half hour. we told you at the top of the hour about an officer shot. at this point we know this happened on the 500 block of ohio drive -- ohio court, that s after some sort of early morning incident. this is not far from baltimore street. the hunt is on right now for a suspect. police are actively looking. this story is just breaking so details are still coming in. we're working to find out the condition of that officer who was shot and a description of the suspect now. when the news briefing happens, we will bring you the very latest. is the latest for now. eun, back to you. >> thank you, molette.

them up a bit. that failed. barbara boxer wanted to get rid of weapons, saying they don't need to be on the streets. >> and it failed. that failed. gun shows and internet background checks, that failed. spreenlting people on the terror watch list from buying guns, that failed. all of those democratic motions. sow now we're waiting to see if anything is going to come out of the senate in terms of gun control in the wake of the shooting. also the f still trying to figure out if it was, in fact, the jihadist connections that motivated the shooters or if this was a workplace or both, some connection of that. that's also part of the investigation. in the meantime a couple of senators including ted cruz sent a letter to homeland security. they want to know the immigration background status of the shooters.

charges. a suspected rapist is behind bars in montgomery county. investigators say he assaulted a 63-year-old victim in her home on dal gate court. investigators say he came in through an unlocked window. they found fingerprints. this morning he is heading to woodbridge and then fredericksburg. they're pulling tenth. front-runner donald trump made his way to prince william county on wednesday. also dchl c. mayor muriel bowser is expected to approve a $63 million housing unit. the project will take two years.

good morning, everyone. here's the latest on breaking news we've been following. condolences coming in as news spread of singer scott weeland's death. he died in his sleep. that's according to posts on his facebook and instagram pages. his manager confirming it. no word on his exact cause of death. weeland was on tour with his band in minnesota at the time. he is the former singer for stone temple pilots and velvet revolver. he was just 48 years old. that is the latest. good morning, everyone.

>> keith ellison is one of two muslim members of congress. in the wake of the backlash from the attacks and the way things have been going amid some of the religions in the world and certainly this country, he calls for a gesture of reaching out, of peace and of tolerance. he's asking members to attend mosques in their own home districts or here in the district just in the back door of congress. delegate eleanor holmes norton, congressman don buy, keith ellison and joseph crowley among those who have taken them upon that offer when it comes to prayers later today. they'll be in attendance. again, this is reaching out in a gesture of peace and tolerance. of course, this mosque back on december 23rd was the scene of intolerance when a man came and damaged the fence. a few days before that another man went into the mosque and started shouting epithets.
