they are looking for evidence connected to the terrorist attack. divers pulled several items from the water. they are hoping to recover electronics or a hard drive. >> the ntsb will be out this morning digging through you a small plane crash in pennsylvania. the tail number on that plane tells us it is owned by a montgomery county resident. it had just taken off from a private residence. two people died. one person did survive and was flown to a pittsburgh burn center. preparations are underway for the funeral of a montgomery county police officer, noah leota. he was hit by a suspected drunk driver last week. visitation is set for 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00. the funeral will be held tuesday morning buried at memorial gardens. they are asking for donations, including mothers against drunk

driving a father in montgomery county is protesting for tougher penalties against drunk drivers. his young daughter was killed by a drunk driver earlier this year. the protest will be at a bar on rockville pike. the maximum penalty in maryland for killing someone while driving drunk is ten years. victims relatives often fall on financial hardship. maryland law does not allow those families to file suit against the person or business that overserves whoever gets behind the wheel. >> it is very unfortunate that we have to lose an officer that he died in such a tragic way. maybe this is the case that makes the senators and delicates step up and say, we are done with this. we are tired of it. we want to see these laws. >> advocates say they will be back in annapolis next year trying to convince lawmakers to change state laws. >> a possible breakthrough for police in the murder of a young woman from spotsylvania, county.

detectives have searched homes in connection to her murder. 21-year-old heather sicone was found dead inso her car in a driveway sunday night. we don't know what police found at those two homes. we are learning that search warrants and other records for the case are now sealed. deputies do have her cell phone. they say it contains critical text messages and phone calls she made before someone killed her. right now, firefighters inilin al alexandria are celebrating their brand new station. it opened in april but much of the department couldn't use it. derrick ford is there rife to explain why the wait took so long. >> reporter: if you are familiar with this part of eisenhower avenue, you have been seeing this building for about seven months. as of this morning and a few minutes ago, it is, indeed open. 45,000 square feet t was open

last april but not fully staffed or fully funded, the alexandria city council finally approved extra money. ahead, a dozen recruits graduate from the fire academy. it is at home. there is a hazmat unit, swift water response and advanced life-saving equipment here. it is all about completing the mosaic of public safety here in alexandria as we hear from the chief. >> we open in april and we have an ems unit runs out of here for the time-being. there are a lot of apartments down the street. the metro is on the other side. it is a fairly busy area. we will be able to decrease our response time. >> reporter: it is strategically located near a major thoroughfare. another 14 recruits will be graduating soon. so you get more than you need here to keep alex an drew he ya and surrounding areas safe.

life in alexandria, derrick ward. one man says the killings in d.c. need to stop. he hopes his display will help the community wake up. hector nuezo is hanging 154 sweaters. each represents a homicide victim this year. when the display comes down, the sweaters will go to a homeless shelter. >> alexandria city council will be on job on a saturday. in a few hours, they will vote on pay raises for council members and the mayor. the mayor's salary could go up from just over 30,000 to 50,000. they have noted that the part-time elected officials are paid less than those in other places, like arlington county. if approved today, the raise would take effect in january with a new mayor. council members haven't seen a pay raise since 2002. >> the holidays are about tradition, right? and honoring one another. that's why, for 23 years and counting, thousands of

arlington are tired of being kept in the dark. the street lamps on north cleveland street have been out for months. >> people feel unsafe and want the lights fixed. jackie bensen got answers. >> reporter: brightened only by the occasional car headlights, the darkness of the 2000 block of north cleveland street in arlington is not the most serious problem in the world. for months, it has been a most annoying one for the people that live here. >> it is narrow, no sidewalks. a couple of nimy neighbors are retired. they feel like they are taking their life into their hands if they walk at night because they can't see well. >> reporter: the ornamental cast iron street lamp in this block and only this block have not been working since at least september. >> we haven't been able to get anything done. they did come about twice and they got fixed every other light.

foods, not for shredding. they will be donated to nonprofits in prince william. a great event all around. developing right now, at least six people are dead in a taliban attack in afghanistan. 12 others were rescued near the spanish embassy in kabul. four afghan police officers are among those killed. two other officers and several others were wounded. the area is home to many high-ranking government officials there. there is growing concern that foreign born brides can marry americans as part of their extremist mission. isis bars them from other attacks. they are learning more about the couple that killed 14 in san bernardino. >> fake pass ports. >> that's a new concern for the fbi in the isis militants. an nbc investigation found american passports are being sold on the black market.

richard ingle has more on the stink operation that exposed forgers. >> the streets of athens, migrants from the middle east can buy whatever they need, including a new identity. in july, greek police arrested hytham ckubash, part of a document ring. an nbc news investigation revealed that he also supplied forged american passports to a man he believed was working for isis. it was a stink. t sting. the buyer was a u.s. federal agent. he said he wanted to buy four american passports and provided four photographs explaining they were of isis members. the transaction took place here and for little more than $11,000, the forger agreed. >> that was may 29th.

five days later, kubash handed the agent the forged passport. before the u.s. could have him arrested, he was picked up by greek police i asked him about his meeting with the american undercover agent. >> did he tell you that he wanted the passports for members of isis? >> he said that. >> so you don't care who you sell it for or for what reason. >> i don't ask anybody what you want to do with passport. >> reporter: getting a passport is just a matter of price.

these forgeries could be good enough to be used in other places where controls are weaker. richard ingle, nbc news, istanbul. take a look at this picture from an interstate in san jose, california. a lucky escape for a man in the bay area after a bizarre accident. a metal tray loader flew off of a truck and went right through the windshield of his bmw. he was able to maneuver his car through traffic safely and over to the shoulder. can you imagine seeing that? just a scratch for the driver. unbelievable. >> he had to have been paying attention, just an inch or two and that's it for him. >> let's turn our attention to the weather today. we started out a little bit chilly. it is going to warm up. >> let's say it is going to be mighty tough sledding today. not the best sledding weather or

we have captured real life grinches plucking packages from porches. >> that means somebody actually approached my house and took something. >> he is going to steal my two packages. >> reporter: rick deckman's cameras caught a crook stealing and didn't notice the camera on the garage with warning sign. >> reporter: 23 million people have had packages stolen from their homes. u.p.s. expects to deliver 6:30 million packages between last friday and new year's. up 10% from last year. that means more targets for thieves. in rancho cordoba, police officers dressed in street clothes are dropping off decoy packages. they are filled with fake electronics and gps tracking devices to hunt down anyone that steals them. >> the more people know we are doing this, the less likely they are to do it. >> reporter: a few tips to keep thieves away. set your own delivery times and use your shipping company's app to have the package redirected.

someone broke in, smashed two lights, sprayed graffiti on the walls. this mosque has been at the center of two armed protests targeting the muslim community. virginia governor terry mcauliffe has been visiting two mosques. today, the all dulles muslim society and meeting with members there. new this morning, a historic global climate agreement. today, french leaders presented the final draft of that climate agreement. the 31-page draft comes after two weeks of talk at the united nation. around 200 delegates will review that which we expect to be agreed on on friday. >> to a story you will see only on news 4. we are getting our first look this morning at some new video. it shows the house fire where two female firefighters say they were assaulted. the prince george's county firefighters say they were shoved by firefighters from a volunteer fire department. the fire was tuesday at a house

in atlanta. it appears the altercation amounts to a turf war. the two career firefighters say male volunteer firefighters pushed them off the porch. they do plan to file charges. >> the union wants to see a thorough investigation. if they are proven to be accurate, we would like to see disciplinary action against the individuals involved. >> so all of the four firefighters involved have been placed on desk duty during the investigation. while there was a delay in the response, nobody was hurt. >> a man is facing charges accused of murdering his mother inside their stafford county home. sheriff deputies say they heard christopher ellis yelling. in his backyard early friday morning.

when deputies got to the home, ellis assaulted one of them. they found 67-year-old elizabeth ellis dead. she worked at a middle school teacher and at the library. she retired last year. >> she had a beautiful smile. she was one of those sort of quietly, stable, foundational people at the library. >> a neighbor said christopher had struggled with mental health issues for years. they say he was the only other family member living in the house at that time. a former youth hockey coach from northern virginia is heading to jail for child pornography. timothy bodenheimer of fairfax station got five years. he propositioned middle school boys and sent them pornography. police say it happened while he coached in the washington little cats program. he was busted in an undercover sting in january when his sentence ends. he has to register as a sex offender. >> two unlicensed guns are now off the streets in fairfax county. police were called to nova

he just picked the wrong lady to stop that night. an abuse of power against women went on for months until one of them refused to stay silent. now, an oklahoma city cop could spend the rest of his life in prison. officer daniel holklaw was convicted of raping several women on duty. he preyed on low income black women in areas known for high crime. we know the name of a man that died in a chainsaw accident in northern virginia. police were called to the woods after reports of some kind of accident. he was dead when they got there. no word on how it happened. some military families that have lost everything are about to get some well-deserved
