developing right now at 6:00, flames tear through the annapolis yacht club. nearly 100 firefighters struggling to get the fire under control. heartless thieves target gifts meant for angel tree kids. we're live as the salvation army tries to figure out what it lost. and less than 30 minutes ago, president obama made a rare saturday appearance at the white house to praise a historic deal on climate change. news4 at 6:00 starts now. developing right now in annapolis, firefighters are still trying to control what they're calling a stubborn fire at the annapolis yacht club.

close to 100 firefighters are working to put that out. it started around 2:30 this afternoon, and right now we know that an ambulance took one firefighter to the hospital with minor injuries. we have also learned the parade of lights scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. it's unclear if that will be rescheduleded. less than two weeks before christmas, and thieves stole donated gifts meant to go to the needy children. they broke into the salvation army's angel tree headquarters in d.c. today. this is where darcy spencer joins us with a new determination to make up for that loss. darcy? >> reporter: erika, this is such a shame. and it appears these teenagers knew exactly what they were looking for. the more expensive items, like the kindle fire electronics, ripping through the bags. and they also took time to try on clothing, as well as shoes. thieves ripped through hundreds of bags of donated items, meant to bring a smile to the faces of

children on christmas morning. workers showed up at the salvation army donation warehouse in southeast d.c., and found that 300 of the 2,500 family bags with collected toys for needy d.c. kids were ransacked. thousands of dollars in toys, bikes, clothing, electronics and other items were gone. >> to have this occur when we're helping so many is frustrating and disappointing. but we can't let it take away our christmas joy and spirit to help so many in this community. >> reporter: staffers saw one kid riding away from the building on a stolen bike. two teens were taken into custody by d.c. police. they're looking for more involved. the donations are part of the salvation army annual angel tree program. the organization was already struggling to meet the needs of the community, because donations are down this year. distribution of the bags is set to start thursday. now they're scrambling to inventory and replace the stolen items. >> the best way you can help right now is to donate online.

with those funds, we will be purchasing some toys, electronics, that have been stolen. some bikes. so every child will have a christmas. >> reporter: two years ago, a different salvation army site in southeast was broken into. thousands of dollars in red kettle donations were stolen. the salvation army officials say they are going to have to hire round the clock security to make sure this doesn't happen again. erika, back to you. >> that's unbelievable that they took the time to try on clothing, darcy. thank you so much. now is a really good time for a lot of people to help. thanks, darcy. meanwhile, family members and volunteers joined together in the search for a college student who vanished last weekend. they handed out flyers with caitlyn aiken's picture on it. her luggage was found near a roadside drainage ditch. her stepfather says he dropped her off at the station last saturday. she was supposed to take metro

to the airport and hop a flight home to vegas. but caitlyn never got on that flight. a pair of would-be thieves in the district caught on camera trying to pry away a woman's purse. but she would not let go. police released this video of the bold attempt at robbery, and in it, one of the suspects you can see grabs the bag, but the victim held on tight. and after a struggle, the two suspects ran off empty-handed. this happened tuesday afternoon. this was near third and i streets in northwest. and now, your storm team 4 forecast. >> and the official high temperature today was 68 degrees. currently at a balmy 64 with mostly cloudy skies. if you're heading out this evening, spectacular for this time of year. 60 degrees around 7:00 p.m. tracking dry conditions this evening and overnight tonight. by 11:00 p.m., a temperature of 57. and very late tonight, areas of fog will start to develop. and fog could be an issue tomorrow morning. here we are at 8:00 a.m., tracking visibilities under a

quarter mile in spots, like washington, fredericksburg, hage yourselftown and martinsburg. any fogginess burns off by 9:00, 10:00 a.m. i'll let you know how warm it will be tomorrow in ten minutes. developing "news now" on climate change. president obama, praising what he calls the most ambition climate change agreement in history. the president spoke about the deal a short time ago from the white house. the united states and nearly 200 other countries signed the deal earlier today in paris. the white house calls it a long-term and durable framework to cut greenhouse gases. the u.s. agreed to cut its overall emissions by 26% in the next 15 years. >> i imagine taking my grandkids, if i'm lucky enough to have some, to the park someday and holding their hands and hearing their laughter and watching a quiet sunset, all the while knowing that our work today prevented an alternate future that could have been grim. >> some republicans say the deal

will cost u.s. jobs. other critics say the deal doesn't go far enough, because there are no sanctions if countries do not comply. starting the 1st of the year, it's going to cost you much more to catch a cabin. the county board said the initial charge goes up 25 cents. it will now cost $3. and the per mile rate rises from $2.10 to $2.16 and the $3 foot locker fee goes away. a record number of volunteers gave up their saturday to thank those who gave their lives for this country. thousands came out to arlington national cemetery to place a wreath on each of the veterans' graves. the event is part of wreaths across america, which does the same thing at countless military ceremonies across the country. organizers started the tradition in 1992. as the gun control and gun violence debate continues to gather steam across the country,

lots of unwanted guns are off the streets in fredericksburg, virginia. police held a gun buyback today. they are donating $100 for each firearm that gets turned in. the money goes to local charities. and police also handed out free gun locks. new this year, some of the firearms will be donated to the virginia department of forensic science to help with their research. if you're shopping online this holiday season, you may want to get all of your gift giving done by this weekend. that will give shipping companies ample time to make sure everything gets there on time. that's because ship matrix, which tracks delivery rates says u.p.s. and fedex are already struggling with delivers because of increased online shopping. both companies say they're employees are working hard to make sure all of the orders get there in time. a lot of you took some important steps to help protect against identity theft. almost 800 cars lined up for the

you're watching news4 at 6:00. we're getting a look at the first round of school raid done tests in montgomery county. these are results. the tests found that 12 rooms

currently have levels that are higher than epa recommendations. in 2012, 16 rooms had high levels. and right now the highest level in the school is 5.4 per later. so just to wrap your head around that, the recommended level is 4. montgomery county ordered raidon tests at all school after the last round of tests in 2012. it's been open since april, but it wasn't until today that alexandria fire station 210 had enough firefighters to fully operate. news4's derrick ward explains how important this new fire station is to that area. >> reporter: it's 45,000 square feet of space, environmentally conscious, a green building. state-of-the-art, completed several months ago, but until this weekend, alexandria's fire station 210 couldn't live up to its full potential. we certainly needed it. we're really excited. >> reporter: excited because the building has been officially dedicated and staffed. >> we actually opened in april and we had a unit running out of

here and had to get training for the new firefighters hired. and now all that's ready to go. >> reporter: with a dozen new firefighters, fresh from the academy and funding approved by the city council, a critical phase of the city's public safety mosaic is in place. and it's clear, this part of alexandria is changing. more is on the way. >> the community deserves this, and i'm just tickled to death this is happening. >> reporter: with the growth in alexandria's west end and the residential commercial and government sectors having this facility up and ready is as important as ever. >> we have a lot of -- a mix around here, a lot of apartments down the street and then, of course, the metro on the other side. >> this area has always locked adequate fire services in terms of meeting the response time. >> reporter: with its hazmat swift water rescue and advanced life-saving units, it's also part of the regional public safety picture, able to assist other northern virginia jurisdictions, as well as d.c. if it the need arises. >> the community is going to be very pleased about it. >> reporter: derrick ward, news4. i was looking at the app,

and you and the folks have 70 as the high for tomorrow. we're in mid december. so what exactly is an average. because 70 is just not the norm. >> you're exactly right. temperatures running 20 to 25 degrees above normal again tomorrow, erika. our normal high is now 46 degrees. we're going to continue to track mild temperatures on monday, and then after that, we will start to cool off a little bit each day. wait until you see next weekend. it will be cold, feeling like december next weekend. we will be tracking showers later in the day on monday. maybe slowing that evening commute. but i think for the most part a pretty low impact on your day. just allowing cooler air to start to move into the area. your sunday impact forecast during the morning, tracking areas of fog that could be thick in spots until about 9:00, 10:00 a.m., so a moderate impact on your morning. after that, the weather has a low impact on your day. mild once again. i posted the exact high temperature in your neighborhood on my facebook and twitter pages, the afternoon and evening dry and comfortable. it's weather to fire up the

grill and enjoy fresh air. by noon, we're already in the mid 60s. kind of hazy sun to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day tomorrow. very similar to today. 3:00, we hit our high temperature, about 70 degrees in washington. so near record warmth once again. today, bwi tied the record high at 71 set back in 1979. 6:00, a temperature around 65. also, some of the air quality alert tomorrow. anne arundel and howard counties. more on that as well. here's the school day forecast for monday. the bus stop. fog possible once again. temperatures in the mid 50s. kids might want to have the rain jacket handy monday. otherwise long sleeves just fine. giving recess an a, dry at that point. it's breezy later in the day on monday. and by dismissal, there's the chance of showers. otherwise the temperature of 68. and that will be the high for the day. now again, on monday, there's a high likelihood we're dealing with rain later in the day.

i'm going to show you future weather, 7:00 a.m., a dry start. clouds already in place. lunch time still dry as you can head out and enjoy the warmth while it's here. once we move into the late afternoon, rain starts to move into the area from west to east. here we are at 7:00 p.m., tracking showers inside the beltway. and then we dry out monday night. tuesday, nice day. partly sunny skies, temperatures only slightly cooler, a high of 64. blustery on tuesday. for wednesday, mostly sunny skies, a high temperature of 62. chance of rain on thursday, as well as friday. and notice how our temperatures continue to fall. thursday, a high around 57 degrees. but plenty of cloud cover. friday, we're in the 40s, a high of only 49 degrees. chance of rain lingering on friday, as well. and the next weekend, not only saturday but sunday, as well, erika, looks like we'll have high temperatures warming only into the 40s. that's normal, though, for this time of year. and a little bit blustery for saturday. >> all right. thank you, amelia. next in sports, bradley beal missed the game against the
