tree headquarters but tonight the salvation army has a message for the crooks. and a big break tonight in the torching of a california mosque. the annapolis yacht club has been attracting boaters for nearly 130 years, but it only took hours for flames to nearly gut the building. news 4's darcy spencer spoke to people who are searching for answers tonight. >> reporter: the annapolis yacht club with a history dating back to the 1800s and a popular destination for the region's sailing community was virtually destroyed in a three-alarm fire. this couple has fond memories of attending functions at the club. >> there's a lot of history that was lost, i'm sure. a lot of historical documents and a lot of the models of old boats. but as long as no one got hurt, they'll replace the building, and we'll all be sailing again. >> reporter: the flames broke out about 2:15 in the afternoon.

heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the waterfront building. it took several hours for firefighters to fully put out the fire. a worker tells me employees were preparing for a large parade of lights party. the parade, which features boats decorated with holiday lights that cruise the harbor, was canceled because of the fire. >> parade of lights is a real significant part of annapolis, and a lot of the boat owners that put out so much effort for the parade, it was such down. so it's tragic timing. >> reporter: while fire investigators are still searching for the cause and where it started, they are investigating reports that it may have started around a christmas tree. club workers like natalia are concerned not only because of the devastation but also they're facing not having a job just a couple of weeks before christmas. >> the people i work with, they're really nice and like it's a good environment to be in. and now that i'm not going to be working for a while, it's going to be sad.

>> reporter: darcy spencer, news4. >> the yacht club has started a crowdrise account to help employees. you can open our washington app for details on how you can help. new details on a deadly house fire in sef ren. police tell us a woman who died in the fire wednesday was killed. investigators say diana knight had upper body injuries. a man was also found dead in the home, but it's still not clear how he died. police say the homicide does not appear to be random. new at 11:00, a bicyclist is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in rockville this evening. this happened on east guti drive. police investigators are looking for a cause. also new tonight, an arrest in a murder that we told you about in october. mohammed washington was shot in broad daylight on his way to a corner store on 42nd street in

northeast. police now say dion martin killed him. washington ran for half a block before collapsing, and on friday, a fugitive task force arrested martin. he's charged with first-degree murder. no word yet on a motive. donated toys meant to bring joy to kids on christmas morning stolen from a d.c. warehouse. now the salvation army is more determined than ever to keep their angel tree efforts going. employees discovered the break-in this morning at their warehouse in southeast. they found hundreds of bags ripped open and donated bikes, clothing, and electronics missing. >> to have this occur when we're helping so many is frustrating and disappointing, but we can't let it take away our christmas joy and spirit to help so many in this community. >> nbc 4 is a proud sponsor of the angel tree program in washington. police quickly took two people into custody.

a pair of would-be thieves in the district caught trying to pry away a woman's purse but she was not letting go. police released this video of the bold attempted robbery. you can see the suspect grabs the bag, but the victim just held on tight. after a struggle, the two suspects ran off empty handed. this happened tuesday afternoon. this was near 3rd and i streets in northwest. a california man in jail tonight facing charges of deliberately torching a mosque. the fire started friday afternoon at the islamic center of palm springs. fire investigators trying to pinpoint the exact cause but believe it was intentionally set. hours after it started, police arrested carl dahl jr. he's facing charges of arson, burglary and hate crime. the fire did not spread beyond the lobby, and nobody was injured. president obama calls it, quote, the best chance we have to save our planet. the president praised a massive climate pledge signed by nearly

200 countries today in paris. the paris agreement as it's being called aims to keep global temperatures from rising another degree celsius between now and 2100. the u.s. agreed to cut its overall emissions by 26% in the next 15 years. >> i imagine taking my grandkids, if i'm lucky enough to have some, to the park someday and holding their hands and hearing their laughter and watching a quiet sunset, all the while knowing that our work today prevented an alternate future that could have been grim. >> now, the deal still needs to be ratified by individual governments, and the president may have a fight in congress. some republicans say it will cost the u.s. jobs. the democratic presidential candidates weigh in on the climate change deal, plus a major shakeup at the top of the gop race. see who's up and down. and second amendment activists and students face off over gun-free zones.

>> splashed across social media right now, touching pictures of an injured soldier and his dog as they recover side by side. both are being treated in the same room at walter reed. army specialist andrew brown and his military working dog rocky were hurt when a roadside bomb went off in afghanistan this week. both are doing well, and somebody pinned a purple heart on rocky's collar. a record number of volunteers gave up their saturday to thank those who gave their lives for this country. thousands came out to arlington national cemetery to place a wreath on each of the 227,000 veterans' graves. the event is part of wreaths across america, which does the same thing at countless military cemeteries across the country. organizers started doing this back in 1992. well, this warmer weather brought an unexpected dash of color to the tidal basin today. the national park service

snapped this photo of blooming cherry blossoms. the buds sporadically blossom on a species of tree called the oug autumn flowering cherry. so while the rest of us were oh my gosh. they were like it does happen actually. >> i've been hearing so many reports of this saying, my azaleas are blooming. i've gotten a picture of a daf foe dill. this is weather is not common for this time of year. >> 74 the high tomorrow? definitely not common for december. >> temperatures tomorrow running a good 20 to 25 driegs above normal. that's the same case on monday. that's your first weather headline. then we will be dealing with some showers on monday, especially later in the day during the late afternoon and evening hours, maybe having an impact on the evening commute, but they're looking pretty light and meager in nature. next weekend in you want december temps, you'll get them. temperatures saturday and sunday staying in the 40s. current lie right now, 53 in washington.

the rain jacket when they get home from school. it's dry and a temperature of 64. that will be our high temperature for monday. i want to show you future weather on monday. tracking the rain moving in. we'll also have winds increasing throughout the day on monday. here we are, 7:00 a.m. it's cloudy, dry. the morning commute just fine as far as the weather is concerned. even lunch you can still take advantage of the nice mild temperatures. it's once we get into the afternoon and evening hours, here we are at 5:00 p.m. showers moving through the area. more showers during the later evening and overnight hours and then we'll dry out for tuesday with partly sunny skies. a high of 64. wednesday, mostly sunny. a high of 62. notice the trend here. tomorrow is the warmest day out of the next seven. then after that, temperatures fall a little bit each day. chance of showers on thursday as well as friday. friday we stay in the 40s. a high of 49. saturday, erica, a high of 45. and sunday, again, it's looking like temperatures will also be in the 40s. >> all right.
