today in the manslaughter trial against a baltimore police officer. william porter faces charges in connection with the death of freddie gray. prosecutors say porter neglected to call a medic or to buckle gray properly in the police van. he told the police van's driver that gray wanted to go to the hospital. gray's death in april sparked days of violent protests in the city. new this morning we are learning that a bicyclist has died in rockville. the 37-year-old died last night. he was crossing traffic lanes against the pedestrian indicator. the driver of the car was taken to the hospital but is expected to be oklahoma. today the alexandria police department will talk to the community about a couple of recent murders. two bodies have turned up in two separate alexandria parks since the beginning of november. no arrests have been made in either case.

yesterday we tied the record high in washington at 71 degrees for the day. now today's record high is 70 degrees. that was set back in 1931. so we may be near that again today. so two days in a row tying the record high for the dates. yesterday and again today. right now "storm team 4" radar, no rain locally. everything's fine. no travel problems weather-wise, although there's a little dampness on the road in condensation. there are little swaths of rain. that will get to us closer later this afternoon. just a light jacket or long sleeves as we are hovering in the 50s. drive time forecast coming up in ten minutes. now, melissa, what's happening on the roads? >> a couple of problems. from the live desk in fairmount heigh heights, addison road because of a crash. you're going to want to use the

temder donald trump but if another gets it, she could face a challenge. tracie potts is here to tell us more. tracci tracie, good morning. >> good morning. these are the numbers from our brand-new nbc/wall street journal poll out this morning. clinton versus trump, she would beat him by 10 percentage points, pretty big especially among independents and hispanics. she would also beat cruz but it's a closer race. he'd only lose by 3 percentage points. interestingly it's the other republicans who aren't at the top of the list who could actually beat clinton. ben carson who's dropped 18 points could still beat clinton by a point and marco rubio who's also seen some improvement fairs best against her. it's a new look and the big picture seems to be that the republicans at the top can't

beat hillary clinton at least if the election were held today, but those who aren't doing as well within the party seem to have a better chance against her. >> tracie potts live on capitol hill. thank you, tracie. president obama is making a rare trip to the pentagon. he'll meet to discuss the fight against the islamic state of iraq and syria and then he'll deliver a statement following that meeting. the president addressed the nation last week. a new report conducted by nbc news finds that it cost less than $5,000 for the san bernardino shooters to form the plan. the total came to about $4,500. the report also found that most of the items were relatively easy to gather. the lieutenant governor in california says the ease at which the shooters built their arsenal is cause for concern. two children and a school

principal are believed to be among the dead in syria this morning. air strikes killed dozens of people yesterday. they hit the suburbs of damascus. video shows the confusion as the strikes came down. today annapolis yacht club officials will work with city leaders to find a new temporary space. the club was severely damaged in a fire this past weekend. governor larry hogan toured the area yesterday. the club's commodore said the yacht's club is part of the community. still no word on what may have caused that fire. a deadly motorcycle accident is under investigation in charles county. sheriffs there say john barnett was on his motorcycle when he ran into a car on saturday on st. charles parkway. the car was making a left into the shopping center. the driver is expected to be okay. a student is dead after police say he threatened a campus officer with an axe.

witnesses called police. the man was knocking out car windows in the town of denton. a university police officer went to investigate the calls early yesterday morning. the officer said the suspect lunged at him before he opened fire. cam put officials confirmed he was a student at the north university at texas. they have more than $12,000 thanks to donations and a bank sale. denise krepp wants to know how many crimes in the areas have actually been processed. she was told gathering that information would cost $44,000 per hour to track down. it it is most wonderful time of the year. maybe not for some mail carriers though. if you're mailing any holiday packages,ñkoç expect a lot of company today. they say today is the busiest

mailing day of the year for cards, letters, and packages. they recommend sending all packages by december 21 cents for christmas arrival. that's cutting it close. the usps estimates that over 15 billion pieces of mail will be sent this holiday season. well, amazon is removing hover boards from its stores pending safety review. several customers have reported their hover boards bursting into flames. they sent a notice to the product's manufacturers that the hover boards meet safety standards. they told nbc news last week that it received at least ten reports of hover board fires. today d.c. mayor muriel bower will announce a new head. she plans to appoint a local business leader as the chair person of the work-force investment council.
