car that crashed into a parked car and then slammed a house in prince george's county. that's causing some trouble in fair month heights right now. we'll get an update in 15 minutes. first in ft. washington a road is closed due to a homicide. we're learning more about the victim. derrick ward is following that story. we'll check in with him. first at 5:00 a.m., good morning. i'm aaron gilchrist. >> and i'm eun yang. >> good morning. getting some showers here in the midwest. here is the new hour-by-hour timing coming in by around 3:00 p.m. the main area of showers still going to be out in the pant of west virginia and coming into

the shenandoah valley. it will be between 4:00 and that it will be getting closer to us. by 6:00 p.m. it will be. cog into the metro area. all the roads will be wet for the latter part of the afternoon. then that tracks off farther to the east. just a few lingering sprinkles after that into the latter part of the evening. most of this ending by tonight. next look at weather and traffic on the ones and now melissa mollet is looking at a couple of problems in prince george's county. >> let's take a look right now at my map. you can see one of the problems right here. fair mount heights at addison road, your alternate is going to be eastern avenue. this is the problem there with that vehicle into the house. ft. washington with a road shut down, palmer. the beltway, we deal that in a couple of minutes. everything look good on the main routes into and out of town. we mentioned this a few

moments ago. a road in ft. washington closed right now for a homicide investigation overnight. we're learning more about the victim as well. "news4's" derrick ward is following that story live for us in washington. derrick. >> reporter: good morning. tucker rod has reopened in this area but take a look. it was about 9:45 when prince george's county police responded of a report of a car crash, a single car crash. when they arrived they found an adult male in that car. they're only saying that person was suffering from upper body trauma. that male was pronounced dead. there's not more. however, police say this is not random and they're still investigating the scene. as we see, tucker road remains open. there was a detective vehicle and another police car where we are. they've now gone off into a wooded area. there's not much. there's an antenna, a couple of houses and then some other

facilities. it's a dark secluded area. certainly at 9:45 it would have been a lot like it is now which is now under investigation. again, an adult male. it is being called a homicide but not a random one. we're live in prince george's county. derrick ward, "news4." also developing right now a typhoon is about to slam into that country. classes and flights have been suspended in the central part of the philippines. thousands under evacuation right now. typhoon melor has over 100-mile-an-hour winds and has wave 13/feet high. it's already hit one island and is expected to make full landfall later today. services will be held for a fallen montgomery county police officer. 24-year-old noah was hit by a drunk driver. there will be two services.

"news4's" molette green with more on how this investigation could affect your drive to work. molette? >> reporter: residents tell me they woke up to the sound of a big boom. take a look at this car. a yukon da nalley. speed was a factor here. that's what police say. they were traveling at a high rate of speed when the car left the road at addison road and dunbar oaks and came through a yard into this house, crashing into the side of it, catching fire. no one inside that house, the family of four that were sleeping at the time not injured, but there is significant damage that is visible to the front porch and to the columns of this house

that will make it difficult to live here. a tow truck is here. the scene is cleared. just this family renting this house left to pick up the pieces and figure out twhar next steps will be. that is the latest from prince george's county, fairmount heights, "news4." this happened early sunday morning right at the d.c. line. two people stabbed a man and a woman. police say it was not random and the victims are expected to be okay. developing in china, a controversial trial is happening right now. a chinese human rights lawyer faces charges for, quote, provoking trouble. that lawyer criticized the government in tweets he posted online. and take a look at rally outside of a courthouse. a u.s. diplomat was shoved

around. police were on hand to quiet protesters but some say they're harassing foreign reporters as well. metro wants to know about your concerns. the agency's new g.m. will be part of a forum. paul wiedefeld is concerned about the frequency and reliability of trains. 5:19. the express lanes turn one and changes are already in the works. data shows the route has improved with the addition of these lanes. drivers report a lot of congestion getting on and off the express lanes. virginia's secretary of transportation says they're working to fix the problem on the southern end of these lanes. 5:19 now. metro's new g.m. has seen his

agency's first safety drill. more than 100 took part yesterday. they tested two scenarios at the forest glen metro station. one, a bus drive spots a suspicion package. the second involved the evacuation of a second station. today the ntsb will have to figure out why a plane crashed just after takeoff killing three men. the plane went down in the woods in pennsylvania, the membership were em employees of a weston-based consulting firm. we're following a developing story out of california this morning. the los angeles county sheriff's office released 911 calls made right before a controversial shooting. in those calls witnesses reported a man firing shots into the air. surveillance have it know shos s

>> it turns out those with the better chance are those lower polling candidates and not those at the top. let's take a look at the brand-new numbers out at midnight. hillary clinton versus donald trump. she wins by ten percentage points. she actually wins big with independents and even more so with hispanics. clinton versus cruz. he'd loods but only by 3 percentage points. but when you take a look at ben carson. he's had a huge slot. he's not near the top anymore. but when it comes to beating hillary clinton, he could barely do so by about one point. that's because he's winning independent by double digits. not as popular as he was two months ago. still very popular with independents. finally marco rubio seems to do best against her. up by three points if that election were held today. although she does better with hispanics. a bit of a split on the inside numbers there.

now, taking a look forward. tomorrow, the debate. donald trump is still averaging at the top of those national polls. he will still be center stage. eun? >> tracie potts live on capitol hill. thank you, tracy. >> happening today, president obama makes a rare trip to the pentagon. he is meeting with his national security team to talk about the fight against the islamic state. he will then deliver a statement. the president addressed the nation last week regarding terrorism and anti-muslim feelings here in the u.s. a new report conducted by nbc news finds it costs the san bernardino shooters less than $5,000 to plan their deadly attack. two journalists added up the costs. the total came to about $4,500. the report also found that most of the items were relatively easy to gather. the lieutenant governor in california says the ease at which the shooters built their arsenal is cause for concern. two children and a school

principal are believed to be among the dead. air strikes killed dozens of people yesterday. they hit the suburbs of damascus. >> today in annapolis, the yacht club will work with leaders to find a new temporary spachls maryland governor larry hogan toured the damage yesterday. he is pledging state support for the rebuilding effort. the club's commodore says the yacht club is part of the community. still no word on what may have caused that fire. a deadly motorcycle accident is under investigation in charles county. sheriff's deputies say that john barnett was on his motorcycle when he ran into a car on st. charles parkway near the smallwood village shopping center. the car was making a left into the shopping center at the time. that driver is expected to be okay. a student is dead after police say he threatened a campus officer with an ax.

witnesses called please called saying a man with an ax was knocking out car windows in the town of denton. a university of north texas went there. the officer says he lunged at him before he opened fire. campus officials confirmed he was a student at the university of texas. 5:36. neighbors on capitol hill are asia raising money to learn more about recent crimes in that area. they have more than $12,000 so far thanks to donations and a bank sale. anc commissioner denise krepp wants to know how many have been investigated. she took that question to the department. she was told it would take $44 an hour to track down. this is a nasty scene. take a look. a tornado knocked down people's home. a tornado or two possibly swept through a northeastern town. i it damaged as many as 50

news. we gist received more information. we'll check in at 6:00. derri"news4's" derrick wards us from tucker road. good morning. >> reporter: this road has reopened after this investigation began last night. police began their investigation shortly after 9:45 in the 2700 block of tucker road. now, we're in the 2400 block. the police found a person inside

later this afternoon. what's going on, melissa. >> we have a problem in white plains. take a look at this. a crash blocking the left lane. we're seeing some slowdowns in that area. also southbound in hyattsville, this is also cleared out of the way. no more problems there. >> thanks, melissa. a florida family wants answers after their son died in a crash that they say involved an uber driver. cory was on his way back from a christmas party when a car he was riding in collide with a deputy's squad car. one of the cars didn't stop at the red light. the victim's brother said he called an uber to get him home from the party. they haven't confirmed whether the dreesher worked for ub jeer today the ole miss football team will practice for their upcoming bowl game. 21-year-old robert can de-chi is in the hospital. he fell from the wall of a hotel in atlanta over the weekend.

police say punched out a window to get to the wall of his room. they say his injuries are minor. 5:49. we turn to a developing story. on sunday vandals painted graffiti at two mosques and left the divide that looked like a hand grenade. the word jesus was painted in white on the mosque's fence. they're investigating it as a hate crime. today the mayor plans to appoint a local business leader as the chairperson of the work force investment council. they advise the mayor and the council on how the district's work force development programs are working. officials are considering a move
