waking up, good morning. >> we want to find out what kind of day we're going to have. mild weather all around. still pretty nice out. >> yes. let's check with tom kierein. >> we're floating in this twilight zone of springtime in december. temperatures in the 60s this morning. we had that overnight rain that came on through, still a few lingering showers here north of the metro area and that will be tracking well north of washington between hagerstown, frederick, baltimore over the next hour or so. elsewhere, pavement is still wet from the rain we had earlier in the evening. watch out, still ponding of water around as well. the rest of morning commute, for the rush hour, will be drying out, but still some roads with -- damp and hovering around 60 degrees for the morning rush hour. by the afternoon, blustery wind, that will blow dry the road, we'll dry out as temperatures hover in low and mid-60s during the afternoon with clouds coming and going through the afternoon hours.

take a look at this right now. this is something we're talking about a minute ago. worth repeating this morning because it is going to pose some problems for a lot of people here. in gaithersburg, because of the funeral, muncaster mill road shut down from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. unless you're going to the funeral, you cannot get through there. you have to take air park instead which isn't the worst, pretty easy to get around that way. 395 southbound off duke street, left and center lanes blocked until 8:00 this morning. that's road work scheduled to hang around for quite some time. again here, northbound, edsal, right shoulder blocked on 395. beltway, no major problems. you can see radar not showing any major rain falling right now. see you in a few minutes. good morning. i'm angie goff. investigators are now looking into a threat to san bernardino valley college campus. it is closing for the day.

the entire school is, we're told. a tweet was sent out asking students to leave the campus immediately. the college saying that a bomb threat was called in, and they are taking this very seriously. aaron, we'll continue to update you as we get more information. >> thank you. 4:32 now. a lawyer for maryland man accused of taking thousands of dollars from isis is asking the public to withhold judgment. a story we brought you on the nbc washington app. the fbi says mohammad elshinawy pretended to sell printers on ebay to conceal the payments. the feds searched his home looking for bomb-making materials. that man remains in jail this mo morning. saudi arabia says it is forming a military alliance with dozens of other countries, all working together to fight terrorism. the alliance is made up entirely of countries with a majority muslim population. they include libya, egypt and pakistan. iran is not part of this

alliance. residents are calling for a curfew in the city of alexandria. they're worried the deaths of two young men in two separate parks are gang related. the bodies were found earlier this fall. police chief earl cook says it is up to the city council to impose a curfew. new video this morning of a suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault in the district. police just released this surveillance video. take a look. police say a woman was walking along 8th street and southeast when a man tried to rob and sexually assault her. this happened late last month. she suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. if you were in the area or have any information, police want to hear from you. 4:33 now. metro's new general manager wants to keep meeting with riders like you. paul wiedefeld got a big thumbs up last night when he told commuters he plans to take metro to work every day. the riders union tweeted it ran into weed field iedefeld after

meeting. there were frustrations over metro's real time planning data. >> 44 minutes for a train, then 5 minutes, then 34, then 8. >> another complaint that came up, single-tracking for repairs. riders say in the past it only happens on weekends, but now it is eating into their week day commutes. a step toward better pay and more benefits for uber and lift drivers. seattle became the first city yesterday to allow the drivers to unionize. it could be a while before the law goes into effect. seattle's mayor said he has concerns about costs. management of companies are vow ing to challenge the law in court and that could take years. decision 2016, nine candidates will appear in primetime tonight for the final republican presidential primary debate of 2015. cnn's wolf blitzer will moderate that debate in las vegas. four other candidates will appear in an earlier debate. tracie potts will have the

latest on the debate and which candidates are gaining ground in ten minutes. 4:35. new details in the last few hours, a green belt city council voted to send a letter to larry hogan opposing his view on syrian refugees. the council voted 6-1 in favor of sending that letter. the council will review the language and bring it up at their next meeting for another vote. in addition to the governor, the letter will be sent to county lawmakers. a homeless man is in jail this morning for digging a 15 foot deep cave in a fairfax city park. 25-year-old yosue rios carved it out and was living in it. it was hidden by plywood and leaves. police found books and papers that looked like homework assignments. it appears he was studying english. >> more power to him. he did something that most people don't do. he actually took a step to change his life. and made his own, like, little home, where he could actually study. >> police filled the cave in with dirt.

rios is charged with destruction of property. a d.c. mother tells news 4 she's worried no one will be charged in her son's death. the medical examiner ruled smith's death a homicide two weeks ago. but the report was made public only yesterday raising his mother's concerns. the 27-year-old died last month after being taken into custody at the marbury plaza apartments on good oak road. the medical examiner's report says cocaine in his system and compression of his torso contributed to his death. now to a dangerous string of robberies in prince george's county. over the weekend, four 7-eleven stores were robbed. in the surveillance video, one suspect holds the cashier while the others rob the place. police believe three were carried out by the same suspects. on saturday, an armed suspect stormed into a sports zone store. that suspect stole cash and 11 pairs of newly released jordan sneakers. no word on a suspect in that case. in ft. washington now, a

teenager faces murder charges in a homicide we first told you about sunday night. prince george's county police say drayton hawkins will be charged as an adult. they say he argued with keith williams before stabbing him. officers found william's body inside a car on tucker road. muriel bowser is taking steps to help the unemployed find word. she appointed a former rival to chair the workforce investment council. he will oversee the job training money. 4:37. new this morning, three people sitting in jill aftail after tr climb the rockefeller center christmas tree. the protesters were part of the group nyc shut it down. spoiled with the warm weather around here. can the high temps last much

new "star wars" movie seems positive this morning on twitter. the movie made its premiere at famous chinese theater in hollywood last night. the stars of the movie was there. the movie is showing all around this country this thursday. if you're going, a lot of theaters are banning costumes and props, which is half the fun. you know everyone wants to show up in the princess leia or chewbacca, hans solo, luke skywalker. everybody wants a lightsaber. >> trying to watch a movie -- >> probably shouldn't do that while -- that's a good -- >> thank you. blasters, face paint, lightsabers, all of that is off limits at the bow tie theater. there are several other chains banning masks. call the theater, check it out before you go in your wookie gear. >> do you have wookie gear? that would have been cute. i cannot wait to see this movie. time for weather and traffic on the 1s. that's the sound i make when i wake up.

good morning. starting off early on this tuesday morning, we are drying out around the metro area. still pavement is wet. we're getting a few scattered light lingering light showers, panhandle of west virginia, along 81, martinsville to hagerstown and around frederick as well. that's continuing to track off to the east and as it does move across northern montgomery county and perhaps howard county and the rest of frederick, keep the pavement wet there. it is gradually drying out a bit, hovering around 60 degrees now, starting off early this morning. next 12 hours, bit of a blustery wind by noon time, near 60. back to the mid-60s by 3:00 and wind diminishes by 6:00. cold plunge this weekend, look at that coming up in ten minutes. look at the problem in prince george's. new problem prince george's, oxon hill road. emergency road work, that popped up this morning. top the beltway looking good. also rolling along nicely, 270

who is gaining ground on front-runner donald trump. good morning. >> good morning. first of all, let's talk about front-runner donald trump because in the latest monmouth university poll, he's now at a whopping 41% support. about three times as much as the next consender, he is the front-runner going into this. you'll see him center stage tonight. the one to watch is ted cruz. not only is he gaining ground on trump nationally within a few points in our poll, but also in several polls now he is number one in iowa. number one among likely caw cussgoers. number one among evangelicals and conservatives. up 24 points over trump on that. ted cruz definitely the one to watch as both of them have pulled the gloves off now on each other. watch marco rubio. he's been a fairly solid number three and only four points behind trump in one of the -- or behind cruz in one of the latest national polls. he's got a new ad out today in

iowa and new hampshire, targeting conservatives, he had a rally in las vegas last night where he was targeting clinton. trump had a rally in las vegas tonight where he had quite a few protesters as we have seen as some of his recent rallies. he talked about -- it didn't seem to bother him at all. we'll see what happens tonight. that starts tonight at 8:30. >> tracie potts on capitol hill, thank you. sergeant bow bergdahl could spend the rest of his life in prison. he'll face a general court-martial that goes against earlier recommendations. bergdahl left his post in afghanistan in 2009. he was freed last year in a controversial ex-change for five guantanamo bay prisoners. in response to recent mass shootings, one school board in indiana wants to arm its teachers. the west clark board says the guns would be locked in a state, only teachers with prior

military or police training would have access to the weapons. most teachers at the school are in favor of being armed. the indiana department of education says it is looking into the school board's proposal. it is now 4:49. we have new details about an attack on a referee during a high school football game. this video had a lot of you talking earlier this fall. now the football coach accused of encouraging his players to hit the referee is on probation and will do community service to make up for it. mack breed pled guilty yesterday, resigned from his coaching position in san antonio after the incident this fall. today, a vote over plans for a new elementary school in frederick county, maryland putting butterfly ridge in west frederick next to hargut farm. it will be ready for students in 2018. walmart and the washington nationals are stepping up to help the salvation army in the district. $20,000 worth of angel tree

gifts were stolen this weekend. thieves broke in a warehouse in southeast washington and stole presents donated to local children. two juveniles were arrested, three others escaped. gifts will be delivered this week. a call to help an 11-year-old girl from montgomery county this morning. she has aplastic anemia and needs a matching donor for a bone marrow transplant. today, children will work a donor drive to try to help her from 4:00 to 7:00 at rocky hill middle school in clarksburg. there will be another drive on saturday. a new york girl survived a fire that killed her family is going to the happiest place on earth for christmas. 8-year-old sapphire terry received a disney world trip through a nonprofit called memories for kids. santa delivered the exciting news last night. that fire killed terry's father and three siblings. brazilian police say they have broken up a wing issuing

take a look at this. a man, wow, ram his truck right into the lobby of a hotel in oklahoma. he barely missed two women who were working at the front desk there. now, according to a local newspaper, that driver was upset with his credit card bill or rather upset his credit card was declined at that hotel twice apparently. he had to pay cash. and now will go to jail. >> probably a better way to handle that. it is now 4:57. bill cosby is firing back against seven women who accuse him of sexual assault. cosby filed counterclaims in federal court saying women are making false accusations for financial gain.

about 50 women have accused the comedian of rape or unwanted sexual contact. cosby was never charged with a crime. sheriff deputies in kansas are handing out gun locks to hundreds of families after a 3-year-old shot himself and died. investigators say the shooting was an accident. the boy was a deputy's son. the gun belonged to someone who shared his family's home. the county's sheriff said he wanted to prevent the accident from ever happening again. in the wake of the san bernardino shootings, changes could be coming to the visa screening process. the female shooter tashfeen malik came to the u.s. under a fiancee feesia. as part of the screening process, they check applicants against terrorism databases but does not check social media communications. that's where they say malik expressed her allegiance to isis. they're reviewing whether applicant's social media accounts should be checked. today, president obama will welcome more than 30 new

citizens to the united states. the national archives ceremony takes place today. this event marks the 224th anniversary of the bill of rights. that kicks off at about 11:30 this morning. time's person of year says she wants to reduce the number of refugees in germany. german chancellor angela merkel took the coveted title last week and praised for her refugee policy. it seems she may be bowing to peer pressure. she now says, quote, we want and will reduce the number of refugees noticeably. key d in fairfax city right now, wildlife specialists are sterilizing deer. they're doing this today and tomorrow to keep the deer population from getting out of control. the specialists track the deer down, tranquilize them, and then sterilize them at police headquarters. the deer are also tagged and tracked before their release. with california in a major
