>> close friends and family members searched adams morgan for hours looking for 19-year-old paul maginnis, jr. his uncle said the teen went missing tuesday night after celebrating his cousin's birthday at this popular bar on 18th street. >> i know that he disappeared from the bar at 1:00 in the morning and my son was with him, thought he was coming out of the bathroom and he never came out. >> this morning his uncle said a close family friend found him in an area behind the bar. he apparently went out the back stairs and fell is what we think. >> family members say paul's body was found in a stairway. they believe it was an accident, but police investigated for hours trying to determine exactly how this 19-year-old college freshman died. >> very traumatized. it's the worst nightmare any

parent could ever have. >> reporter: now his uncle tells us that paul will be remembered as the life of the party who had so many friends. we are told he had just returned home from college and his firsty is midwester at virginia commonwealth university in richmond to celebrate christmas with his family. jim? >> meagan fitzgerald, thanks, meagan. >> we have breaking news out of san bernardino, california. moments ago a friend and former neighbor of the shooting suspects was charged in the case. his name is enrique marquez. federal agents say he provided the assault rifles that were used to kill 14 people in the terror attack there. nbc's jay gray has our report. >> reporter: 24-year-old enrique marquez has gone from neighbor to suspect charged today with conspiracy to commit crimes of terrorism and federal weapons charges as the investigation into the san bernardino terror attack continues. federal agents say in 2011 marquez and syed farook, quote,

started planning to use firearms and explosives to carry out terrorist acts. attacks that marquez told investigators were designed to maximize the number of casualties that could be inflicted. he also, according to today's filing, purchased two assault rifles used by farook and his wife tashfeen malik in a massacre that left 14 dead and more that 20 wounded. agents raided his home two days after marquk posted this crypti message. i'm sorry sorry, guys. it was a pleasure. social media continues to be a focus for investigators who now say despite earlier reports there were no public posts by farook or malik showing allegiance to isis or calling for jihad in the years leading up to their marriage or the attack. >> these were private messages and not seshl media messages. as the search for evidence and are sws continues. jay gray, nbc news, washington.

prosecutors are promising a retrial in the case of a baltimore police officer charged in the death of freddie gray. today lawyers met to start planning that retrial of william porter after yesterday's hung jury, but a second officer is said to be tried january 6th and that complicates the timing. meantime, baltimore's mayor talked today about changes the city has made since gray's death including putting cameras in the back of police vans. tell us how the city is dealing with the mistrial. >> reporter: all right, here at the courthouse, prosecutors and defense attorneys met today with the judge to start planning the retrial of officer william porter, but as of now no new trial date has been set. protesters demonstrating throughout baltimore yesterday against the mistrial in the porter case have been generally

peaceful. >> most people who live in baltimore want to avoid a repeat of the rioting that occurred after the funeral of freddie gray last april. today in west baltimore, as catholic charities collected toys for youngsters who live in the community, representatives of dozens of organizations statewide met to discuss police reform and community relations. >> until we deal with poverty, housing, employment, education. those issues, as well, we're going to continue to have this boiling up of pressure that often gets tipped off because of a police encounter. >> reporter: a representative of casa from hyattsville, maryland, is part of this effort. we've had instances where community member his police brutality and had police misconduct and there is a fear in our community. >> reporter: nearby in the community where he was arrested last april his portrait is on a mural. >> you're supposed to help us

southern avenue in southeast, d.c. a source tells news 4, the driver and passenger got into a verbal altercation. we are told the passenger got off the bus at mlk avenue and first street and then turned around and stabbed the driver. the bus dve's union ss metro needs to make safety a priority for both drivers and riders. >> one of the best things that they can do is make sure that they increase their police presence and increase the police presence for busses especially and especially in high-crime areas where we know that there is a higher propensity to crime. >> the d.c. police arrested the suspect and his name is robert vossberg. he's been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. >> a program allowing metro employees to anonymously report safety concerns is being expanded. since 2013, metro has used what they call a close call reporting system for the trains. today, general manager paul

wiedefeld announced he's expanding it to busses. it is the first bus agency in the nation to have that program. the close call system is in place so workers don't have to fear retribution for reporting something they think is unsafe. it was an emotional moment for a new jersey man who came to washington and for the first time found the spot where his son died. matthew roth was killed when a drag racer wound up smashing into his car. news 4's pat collins is at the scene where that deadly crash happened tonight. pat? >> reporter: doreen, it's unfair, david roth says, the suspects get to go home and celebrate the holidays with their family while he goes on visit his son's grave site. he was at the scene where his son was killed. he was at court when the two men charged in the murder made an appearance. he's from new jersey, but david roth spent a lot of time in our

city today, seeking justice for his son. >> my son always believed in fairness and the fairness is that these people be put away and it is not fair that my son's in the ground and they're not. >> reporter: matt roth was a 24-year-old cpa, a maryland grad, and killed in a crash after two cars went drag racing on 16th street. the pictures show how violent it was. matt was just driving home when one of the drag racing cars crossed over the median, went airborne and landed on top of his volvo. two men have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the case. 28-year-old rasheed murray, the driver of the striking car and 22-year-old ryan thompson, after an off-duty fireman. police say he was in an suv and he was racing, too. the death of matt roth has brought a great sense of heartbreak to his family. >> this is the worst thing any

to answer questions about email accounts. a news 4 i-team report from march reported that chuck hagel received official government communication at his gmail account including an email from the white house chief of staff during the federal government shutdown. an email sent to a group of members from the obama administration cabinet and one is listed as cthsd24@gmail.com. chuck t hagel was the 24th secretary of defense. when we asked why, hagel used two phones and that on some limited occasions an email may have been sent to or from the wrong account and he told us at the time ash carter was keeping two sets of email addresses as well. the new york times today said the white house questioned why carter was doing so about six weeks after our report and that would be in may and that he has since agreed to stop doing so. doreen? >> scott macfarlane, thank you. walter reed army medical

out and the rest of the area just seeing that mist or drizzle along with that fog. you can see right now some of the heavier showers and that's all they are, showers down toward calvert county and right now, downtown, take a look, union station looking good and holding up this evening and the flag not blowing all that much and temperatures around 53 degrees and that's why we could see some of that fog and we have not moved much as far as temperatures are concerned. 50 in kull pepper and back to the west, 46 in cumberland so we're not seeing the cold air move in just yet, but it's not too far off. there goes our storm system and there goes the rain and behind it, you can see the cold and see these clouds and that's the leading edge of the cold and temperatures right now into portions of ohio in the 30s and we are going to see some of the colder air come in as you move on during the day tomorrow. what to wear? she's got the right idea and it will be the winter coats and it is going to be the winter coat, the scarf and yes, even the hats

and that's the kind of cold air you have coming in. temperatures tomorrow into the mid-40s and this is the average high temperature for the year, but 46 in d.c. tomorrow afternoon, however, it will be a 38-degree windchill so we are going to see the winds begin to kick up and that will be a major issue and that's why we have tomorrow's impact forecast on the low to moderate side because it will be turning colder and it will be breezy and we'll see falling temperatures and how about saturday? the wind kicking up and these are the windchills between 20 and 25 at 7:00 a.m. and that's cold. 27 to 32 around noon and even in the afternoon we're still in the low 30s for windchill so a very cold saturday. high temperature on saturday around 43, but it will not feel even that warm and it will be the coldest day so far this year, at least this season. 46 on sunday and less wind and a little bit better as we make our way toward the redskins game. by monday, we're at 56, but wait until you see the temperatures on christmas eve, guys.

has found they're not functioning properly in a lot of places and the fix won't come cheap. potentially a $100 million fix. vdot says it's going to replace guardrail ends. the problem, instead of absorbing the impact of a crash like this coiling motion of a unit we found today, some turn the metal behind them into spears sending them through a vehicle. they were manufactured by texas-based trinity industries. the end pieces are modified plus ends and vdot says there are lots of them throughout the state. >> there could be as many as 15,000 of the modified vt plus on virginia roads. >> doesn't make me feel safe. although i consider myself a safe driver there is always a possibility of an accident happening. >> reporter: no word on northern virginia. >> not good. i drive a lot, 200 to 300 miles a day all over maryland and northern virginia, and i'll be

and emails that it has been advised that schools should be close as a precaution. they are saying there have not been any specific threats. vance? >> thanks, chris. tonight word has gone out to the entire university of mary washington community about a former police sergeant arrested on charges of sex assault. william -- pardon me, somers is his name. he's accused of forcible sodomy involving a transgender woman. she is not a student at the school, but alleges that the assault took place in a suite in the basketball arena. somers resigned from the police department on monday. martin skruly is one are described as one of the most hated men in america. he recently became a symbol of corporate greed. he took over a drug company and

jacked up the price of a life-saving drug by more than 5,000%. the fbi arrested him today on fraud charges not involving the pharmaceutical case. they say he lost investors' money through bad trades and eluded a company he ran in order to pay back his clients. he pleaded not guilty. he was set free on bond of $5 million. >> for more than a month, armed robbers terrorized gas station clerks across northern virginia, but tonight three men are behind bars accused of those crimes. bureau chief julie carey reports on the critical clue that ended their crime spree. >> reporter: again and again from late october to thanksgiving weekend four armed robberies. inside gas stations clerks were terrorized. a gun pushed to their sides or held to their heads. court documents say these three men are to blame. they now face federal armed robbery charges.

corey lamont rogers was the suspect holding a small, silver handgun. these are just some of the seven gas stations targeted. this exxon in annandale. the hillwood mart in falls church and another exxon station on route 50, one suspect, sometimes two would enter the stores. they were after money and often stole cigars, cigarettes and lottery ticket, too. they also occasionally made off with the clerk's cell phone, but it was at the annandale exxon on november 22nd that a suspect made a critical mistake. he carried a bag of doritos to the counter before he pulled his gun, when he fled he left the doritos behind. police ficker print off the bag, on black friday, yet another armed robbery. fairfax county police spotted a car used by the suspects. after the chase, the suspects crashed and were taken into custody. >> reporter: so far the men are facing three charges in

connection with the crime, but more are expected and even though they're being held in the adult detention center this case is being handled by the fbi and federal prosecutors. i'm julie carey, news 4. >> a man suspected in nearly a dozen armed robbery ises in custody in massachusetts. officers took michael schlessinger into custody tuesday after a robbery in cape cod. he's from fairfax, but we are told his father was up in cape cod. during a search police say they found two guns stolen from a firearms dealer in mclean and that's what helped them connect them to the suspects down here. a man now finds his name on the same paperwork he used to process. his name is israel mangroo. he is a district court commissioner. they arrested him last month after a coworker accused him of taking photos up her skirt. he's been charged with illegal visual surveillance and misconduct in office. mangroo's case will be tried in

prince george's county because of a conflict of interest with the montgomery county courts. virginia governor mcauliffe unveiled his spending plan. it's a record breaking $109 billion that puts priority on students. it includes a raise for teachers and it provides $13 million for virginia veterans and 50 million to make dulles airport more competitive. mcauliffe says democrats and republicans have to work together especially while there's no threat of possible sequestration. >> if we don't take advantage of these two years to build this economy, shame on us. we can't let these two years go by when we're politically fighting. voters expect us to get things done and i'm looking forward to do things in a bipartisan way to get things done. >> it's sure to face opposition from the gop-controlled general assembly and that includes his expansion of medicaid.

>> tonight a virginia man is in trouble for flying a drone near the washington monument. william stokes, jr., of manassas was ticketed last night after u.s. park police caught him flying the unmanned aircraft. they kept the drone as evidence. stocks told officers he didn't realize they were banned in the area. it is illegal to fly drones in d.c. and at national parks. the man who landed a gyrocopter on the u.s. capitol lawn earlier this year now wants to go to work inside the building. douglas hughes says he plans to run for congress. the florida resident hasn't said which one of the representatives he plans to challenge and he plans to run against a democrat and move to the district in south florida. hughes says his gyrocopter stunt was meant to call attention to campaign finance reform. he faces up to ten months in prison. protests at the white house today mark one year since the

u.s. announced it would restore diplomatic ties with cuba. one group blasted the obama administration, the demonstrators said the move to reconciliate, legitimized the corruption and violence that happened for decades under the communist regime. others are celebrating the restored relations with cuba. both countries are opposed to a deal that would bring back regular commercial flights between the u.s. and cuba. that hasn't happened in decades. right now travelers have to take a charter flight between the states and that island nation. those flights can be expensive and difficult to book, but if the deal goes through, major airlines could be offering direct flights in a matter of months. >> a man suffered a heart attack behind the wheel, but he is alive tonight thanks to a quick-thinking police officer. >> his short career so far seems to be in the right place at the right time.

film, whatever, to the end. aisha has been true to her through line for nearly half a century here. a woman of conviction, dedicated to making things better. as director of community affairs, she has been unwavering in her commitment to her constituents. that would be you, all of you in the dmv. on any show that airs here, you can always count on aisha to ask how does this serve the people? sometimes the question seemed like an irritant like when quick decisions needed to be made or when we were trying to get the job done, but she never stopped asking. her through line extends beyond her work life. as a singer mother aisha raised two magnificent sons, both of whom grew up here at wrc. if you've ever been to any channel 4 community event you've met them. she put them to work, setting up displays, handing out flyers, in some way being useful and now the family is going to include a

daughter-in-law and most importantly a grandson, jackson. truly the light of her eyes and the wind beneath her wings. wrc is in the blood of the karimas and the karimas are in the blood of the wrc. after 46 years here aisha is retiring. no one -- no one has ever done her job or served her community better than she. we all wish her so much joy and peace and rest in her retirement. personal note, aisha and i walked through the doors at wrc within one month of each other way back in the summer of 1969. quite frankly, i had no idea what i'm going to do without that woman.
