$17 to 19 bucks an hour that pay does not match up with the high cost of living in charles county. so the school system is warning parents that drivers will take kids to school today, but in the afternoon, drivers may call out sick. that means schools will have to scramble to find a solution. there is a hot line that parents can call today to keep informed about what is going on. the school superintendent says kids will get home no matter what. here is what you need to know today. schools will remain staffed until all kids are home. the schools here are in contact with extra bus drivers who can be called in to get students home and parents should call a hot line to stay informed. the school system says that it is going to be working, staying in contact with the drivers and all kids will get home today. just may take a little bit longer than normal to get everyone back to where they need to be. back to you guys. adam tuss, thanks. developing now, we're learning new details about a troubling shooting in rockville. montgomery county police say

someone shot a woman as she drove to a metro station last night. witnesses reported hearing up to seven shots on martins lane near the rockville swim center. the victim was hit in the leg one time and is expected to be okay. officers used dogs to search the area for the gunman, but didn't find anyone. right now, d.c. police investigating a deadly stabbing. they say a man was killed near the intersection of g street and 24th street in northeast washington last night. they're looking for three suspects now. police did put out some information about the suspects, but not much. they're lacking for three men who were wearing dark clothing and masks. funeral services will be held for a man found dead. d.c. police are investigating the death, but not as a homicide. new information about an attack on a montgomery county police officer earlier this month. police charged this man with hitting an officer with his car. they say the officer tried to

pull over lenard slaughter two weeks ago. according to police, he kept driving and stopped and waited for officers to run at him before speeding away. slaughter is facing assault and reckless endangerment charges. now 6:04. developing now, more on the u.s. service member killed in the deadliest attack on americans in afghanistan since 2012. the taliban is claiming responsibility. a suicide bomber killed six people near bagram air force base. one victim was joseph lemm. he served two tours in afghanistan and was a detective with the nypd. new york governor andrew cuomo released a statement saying, detective lemm embodied the selflessness and bravery of the u.s. armed forces and the nypd. the woman responsible for this horrific scene should be in court. police say she intentionally drove her car into the pedestrians along the las vegas strip. lakeisha holloway is in jail under a suicide watch now. police say her 3-year-old daughter was in the car with her

when she swerved on to the sidewalk twice on sunday night. she killed a mother of three and hurt dozens of other people, holloway's daughter is now in protective can custody. an update in bob mcdonnell's corruption case. the former governor vaf have filed with the supreme court on monday, officially making his case for an appeal. he says government's interpretation of an official action is wrong. he also criticizes how the jury was reviewed before the case. last year mcdonnell and his wife maureen were found guilty of trading political influence for $165,000 in gifts and loans. today, montgomery county's comptroller will announce a new alcohol economic impact study. every bottle of beer and wine you buy must first be sold from a government warehouse. state delegate bill fricke introduced a bill that would allow businesses to bypass that process and buy from a private wholesaler. the county says that could cost millions of dollars. the study being announced today

ten people recovering this morning after a tree fell on them during a university tour. you're looking at vanderbilt university after the tree was cut down. the group was standing outside of a gym building when all of a sudden the tree was on top of them. the weight of the rain on the branches caused the tree to fall. here in washington, we're working to find out how seriously a cyclist was hurt in a car crash. d.c. police say the car hit the cyclist on connecticut avenue's bridge over the park. this should bring a smile to your face.

costly to put up the inflatables. 6:17. today, the mother of a 27-year-old teacher will demand more answers about her son's death. alonzo smith was in the custody of private security guards known as special police when he died on november 1st. this is d.c. police body camera video from that night. police say they detained smith because he was high on pcp. when d.c. officers arrived, he was not breathing. today, his mother will hold a news conference asking for an independent investigation into her son's death. another month before we find out whether a texas state trooper will face charges in the case of sandra bland. in july, bland was arrested after a traffic stop and later found hanging in her cell. the medical examiner ruled bland's death a suicide. her family believes she was murdered. a grand jury has decided not to indict any sheriff deputies or guards from the jail where she died. i'm angie goff. new numbers in on one of the

hottest debates in america right now. abortion. it looks like support hits a new high in two years. 58% of americans now think abortion should be legal in most cases. support on the republican side inched up to 40%. that is up 5% since january. now, on the democratic side, 76% of respondents think abortion should be legal. the associated press poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4%. happening today, embattled army sergeant and former p.o.w. bowe bergdahl will be in court for an open hearing. the army recently announced he would face a general court-martial. bergdahl was accused of leaving his post in afghanistan in 2009 and captured by the taliban. he was freed last year in a controversial exchange for five guantanamo bay prisoners. now it a story you'll only see on news 4, our i-team learned an employee at the national institute of standards

and technology is on an isis hit list. according to police records, the woman has been notified by the fbi. she was told agents would monitor the situation and give her extra patrol while she is on or near the gaithersburg campus. security analysts say these types of lists are becoming more common. >> very few instances where we see a real clear link to i'm attacking this because isis said so. it is a new normal. has been for several years. >> montgomery county council member fred white says this shows maryland has high value targets and more grant money should be used to help local police protect the community. 6:19. the centers for disease control says it is investigating a new batch of e. coli cases linked to chipotle. most of the cases are in the midwest apparently. the cdc does not yet know whether it is connected to a larger outbreak that started in october. in news for your health, anew warning about the screens we use on our electronic devices.

optometrists warn the blue light can be dangerous for your children's eyes. they say childrens should use screens for two hours or less a day. they also suggest that you should give your kids some sort of eye protection while using those screens. you might be celebrating all this warm weather we're having here. it is causing a headache, a real headache, for some people. a doctor at the university of pittsburgh says the warm wet weather is kaucausing seasonal allergies to persist this late into the year. there is pollen in the air, mold spores that freeze are causing problems as well. i feel bad for all you allergy sufferers. today is the first official day of winter. >> it is. no snow, really, for us to think about around here right now. wasn't that long ago we were all really digging out of big time snow. you'll remember back on december 19th, 2009, huge snowstorm hit our area, dropped the most snow we have ever seen in december.

something to think about if you take i-95 or 495 to get to work. a survey just released shows a lot of you are happy with the express lanes. 1700 drivers, 75% said they're satisfied with how the lanes work. 70% of the people who use the lanes said they would support extending them even further. a new study in news 4 your health about how dangerous working overnight can be. researchers in boston tested the driving abilities of 16 workers, once after a night of working again, after a night of sleep. after working all night, more than a third nearly crashed their cars. in fact, almost half of the t e tired drivers had to stop the study because they could not maintain control of the car. says a lot for people who work overnight shifts. sometimes people don't have a choice. be careful out there. 6:25. if you're flying this week, you're not alone. the tsa bringing in extra eyes

we begin with breaking news this half hour. crews are still looking to remove a car from the anacostia river. the car went into the river at around 10:00 last night. >> we learned d.c. police found a body in that car. derrick ward is live near the anacostia with more now. >> reporter: we don't note identity of the person found in the car, don't know whether that person was the driver or a passenger. take a look. you can see, it is about .4 of a

mile around the anacostia river. take a look at video from the scene last night. about ten minutes after 10:00 when police got a call for a car in the water. when they got here, they found that vehicle on its roof. its wheels barely visible above the surface of the water. divers went in and did some searching on the shoreline along the area where the car went into the water, near a boat ramp. unclear if the car went in off a dock between two boat ramps or off the boat ramp itself. an adult male found inside that car. police have yet to remove the car from the water or open up this part of anacostia drive. we're told that they are probably waiting for some more light and they can do a little more investigation before they try to figure out exactly what happen ed here late last night. derrick ward, news 4. back to you. breaking news on the roads now. 395 inbound, problem at glebe road, one lane getting by.

death of freddie gray. porter was the first of six officers to face charges. last week a hung jury forced the mistrial in this case. now, all five of the other officers are scheduled to be tried before porter. investigators say that gray died of a spinal injury in the back of a police van in april. the next officer to face jury is caesar goodson, the driver of that police van. a former prince journals county principle says he was fired for no reason and now he's planning an appeal. he worked at the dooric school. he was accused of ignoring allegations that a teacher spanked a student there. last week the school district says it found no evidence of abuse, but told our prince george's county bureau chief he was fired. >> still a disconnect in terms of transparency in the way it was handled. >> tracy was the first to report when the abuse complaint was filed. the teacher who was accused of spanking the kids is now teaching in montgomery county.
