we're tracking a lot for you right here from the storm center and we'll continue to do so. >> we'll update the weather's impact on the roads and the skies and we'll be doing that all evening. >> flight aware is reporting some delays and make sure you follow @first4 weather and take the app with you when you're heading out. >> an undercover law enforcement officer busted in an undercover sting. this man is charged tonight with having inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy and police tell us he tried to lure that boy to a virginia mall parking lot just last night. news 4's scott macfarlane tells us the agent has enjoyed a high-profile career. >> the agent is an undercover specialist known to conduct surveillance on criminals and help take them down. his beat was tobacco trafficking and now he's the one who has been taken down. >> reporter: this is paul carey who has frequently appeared on television including reports on

news 4. he's spoken on news conferences about tobacco smuggling in and out of virginia. >> a veteran investigator of the northern virginia cigarette tax board with the power to arrest people. as news 4 was first to report today, fairfax county police arrested paul carey last night at 7:00, at this parking lot outside the lord and taylor. he's suspected of inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old boy. he stayed in contact with the boy, but investigators say when they got wind of the case an undercover detective pretending to be that boy agreed to a meet-up at the maurl all and he trying to solicit the boy again. >> they assumed the identity of the victim and he went ahead and made contact with mr. carey and at that point subsequently, he was arrested. >> reporter: law enforcement officials say carey was held on bond last night. no answer when we tried to reach

someone at his home at prince william county today. they're investigating whether carey might have had inappropriate contact with other children and are asking for tips. this is the second local law enforcement agent suspected of having indecent contact with a child in as many weeks. and why do the feds say there's been sch a sharp increase in overall invest gagds of child sex crimes this year. that part of the story on news 4 at 6:00. wendy? >> scott macfarlane. >> now to a developing story in prince george's county where an officer fires at a man with a gun in i quiet residential cul-de-sac this afternoon. this is on clarion court. news 4's derek ward is there now. we just heard police caught up with the guy. >> reporter: well, it looks that way. it looks like the situation has resolved itself during the course of an hour and there's still an investigation and we're in the 13,000 block of clarion

court and it is a quiet cul-de-sac of single family homes and someone called police. take a look at the scene shortly after this all started to unfold. someone called police to report a suspicious vehicle and a suspicious person. the first officer arrived and found that car and apparently saw that the occupant, at least one occupant in that car was armed and we don't know what kind of confrontation or interact went on between the officer and the suspect. a shot was filed between the police officer and the suspect ran off. it was determined that that person was not hit. police brought in k-9 units and began an extensive search of the area and within 30 minutes that person had been arrested and we don't know where that arrest occurred and what that person was doing here and what transpired that led to that shot being fired. no one was hit by the gun fire, that the suspect is in custody and this street remains closed while the investigation continues. we hope to bring you more on this in the next hour on news 4.

right now we're in port washingt washington, nederrick ward, new 4. this is a section of the trail that is not far from the inner loop of the beltway. right now not clear how this person died. police are waiting for an autopsy and they are looking for witnesses. >> and the baltimore county police officer caught on camera punching a 19-year-old during an arrest is now on administrative duties. the officer punched zachary plumenstein of chevy case after blumenstein resisted arrest on saturday. when officers tried to arrest him outside of a restaurant. video posted on youtube shows three officers struggling with blumenstein. the suspect is facing charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and investigators are reviewing the incident. >> republican rivals are coming to the side of presidential candidate ted cruz tonight after his daughters were depicted as

monkeys in a washington post editorial cartoon. the cartoon is now off the post website. it's an unwritten rule that the children of candidates are off-limits, but cruz says the post crossed that line. >> folks want to attack me, knock yourself out. that's part of the process. i signed up for that. that's fine. it's not complicated. don't make fun of of a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl. >> the cartoonist is defending the drawing saying cruz uses his children as political props. cruz has used the controversy to call on supporters to, quote, fight back. the jabs keep coming between donald trump and hillary clinton. clinton responding to the vulgar language trump used at a rally earlier this week. >> nothing surprises me. i don't know that he has any boundaries at all and his bigotry, his bluster, his bullying have become his campaign. >> despite the near-constant controversies, trump's poll

numbers continue to rise on the republican side. a new cnn poll shows he has a more than double-digit lead over ted cruz. >> a morgan state student killed in a head-on collision in prince george's county was buried today. family and friends of ososanya died in upper marlboro. a driver crossed into his path and hit him head on. his friends raised money for his funeral through a go fund me page. he spoke through his photography, his charisma and his kindness. a man is recovering tonight for being shot while trying to stop another man from robbing his store. this happened in a little computer shop in fairfax county. news 4's meagan fitzgerald has that story. >> reporter: there are shops all along richmond highway packed

with people doing holiday shopping, but yards away on beacon hill road, fairfax county police were busy investigating a crime scene. >> a man entered the business. he displayed a handgun and took an item. >> tawny wright is a spokesperson for the fairfax county police department. she says the robbery happened around 11:30. as the suspect was get being ready to leave the store he was confronted by an employee. >> it appears the victim was shot. >> wright says the employee is okay, but confronting a gunman in most situations isn't a good idea. >> we always suggest to think of your own safety. >> reporter: nevertheless, the robber got away, running toward richmond highway and quickly changing the mood for many last-minute shoppers. >> that's something that if that happens it's a calculated gamble with craze human beings. >> that's just the world that we live in now. you have to be more careful. >> that was meagan fitzgerald reporting and police say they're

reviewing security camera video from the area, and they want anyone who has seen that suspect so give them a call. >> the man who has admitted to killing three people in a colorado planned parenthood wants to represent himself. robert dear interrupted a hearing who said he couldn't trust his public defender. dear had several outbursts during his last appearance saying he was a warrior for babies. he faces nearly 180 charges including first-degree murder. on christmas day you'll see them on the basketball court, but you will also see some of the nba's big of the stars and a new psa calling for an end to gun violence. i heard about a shooting involving a 3-year-old girl over the summer. my daughter riley is that age. >> it features superstars like steph curry, carmelo anthony along with gun violence survivors and spike lee directed. 88 americans die each day as a

well, by now you know, folks, we have a weather alert there. we are closely tracking storm team 4 radar, reagan national the heart of the nation's capital and many of us are getting ready to hit the roads and the skies. chief meteorologist doug kammerer brings us an updated look at your holiday in just a few minutes. solemn moments in afghanistan as troops gather to rememberá89ñ their fallen colleagues. a suicide bomber killed six service members. some troops knelt in front of their photos, and others giving a final salute. that airfield is one of the main bases for u.s. troops in afghanistan. the victim's bodies are being

turned over to their families. today at dover air force base in a dignified transfer. >> among the six killed adrianna vorderbruggen to be killed in the line of duty. >> she fought for don't ask don't tell to be repealed. and coping with the loss of a loved one. >> reporter: a family photo with the golden gate bridge in the background captures air force major adrianna vorderbruggen with her wife and son. a photo her widow heather lamb will treasure after a suicide bomber killed vorderbruggen in afghanistan monday. in a statement she said adrianna was the light of our lives and our son jacob and i miss her so much and as the family mourns -- >> adrianna and her partner were

situation after blocking traffic to two of the city's airport terminals. this is a black lives matter demonstration that moved from the mall of america to the airport this afternoon where there were some confrontations with police, as you can see. those terminals are now back open. protesters want minneapolis police to remove video of an officer shooting and killing jamal clark next month. the big holiday getaway under way. aaa tells us tonight this evening will be the busiest time to travel. 90% of travelers across the country will be traveling because of the drop in the gas prices out there. travel in our area is up over last year by a little more than 1%. let's get an update on how the rain and the fog are affecting this holiday rush, doug? >> they're affecting it in a big way. all around the beltway and 95 is a mess, and it will be a complete mess and right on

through the day tomorrow and with more rain likely and take a live look outside and just a nasty, nasty shot out there toward the capital and we have the rain falling and temperatures on the warm side. 65 degrees and 20 degrees above average. winds continue to be out of the south at 6 miles per hour and the rest of the area, 64 degrees currently in leesburg. last-minute shopping and a lot of people got the frustration going on and rain and fog, 63 and make sure you have the umbrella and tomorrow a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm and high of 75 degrees and most of the day tomorrow though is going to be on the dry side. here's the current radar and i want to point your attention. look at the severe weather, and down around the raleigh, north carolina area and some of this tried to move our way and we've seen thunderstorms in our region and look right here into northern portions of prince george's county and also back towards montgomery county, heavy rain and take a look out around 270 and this is 495 in river road headed toward 270 and

headed toward northern virginia. it is just a moos those roadways and if you're waiting for someone to come home, yeah, you have to give them extra time for sure. let's zoom in on this area and i want to zoom in around the northern part of the beltway and this is around college park and to the north of buoy. look at the red. this is at the v.w. parkway and this is going to continue to be extremely heavy rain right on through the next 20 to 30 minutes and if you live up around the laurel area you will continue to see the very heavy rain around the cheverly handy. >> most of us will start to clear out a little bit tonight, and each by 9:00, and it's still rain in parts of the area. then we get to tomorrow and of course, we're talking christmas eve now. early in the morning, notice what's happening. notice the reds here and these are thunderstorms that come

through and look at how one computer model brings a line of storms along i-59 between 9:00 and 10:00 and any storms that develop may have the potential to bring in strong winds and 40, 50 mile-an-hour winds and it will move through very quickly and most of the day looks dry on your christmas eve and that's one reason why temperatures will be so warm during the day tomorrow with record high temperatures on friday morning, christmas morning and it's like fog. santa will have to be going through some fog to get those presents out to us tomorrow night. what's going to be happening as far as the impact is concerned and low to moderate impact because of the record warmth and the period of rain early in the morning that could affect your plan especially early. 75 tomorrow, that's a record and 68 on friday and i wouldn't be surprised for some areas to be around 70 christmas day. 69 on saturday and another chance of shower activity and 75 on sunday and that, too, would be a record high temperature and we have the chances of rain and

right now at 5:30, a veteran state tobacco investigator busted in an undercover sting. a fairfax county police arrest paul carey last night at fair oaks mall after an undercover officer pretended to be a 14-year-old boy. police say carey had inappropriate sexual contact with the boy and tried to meet up with him again last night. it's still not clear whose body wound up in a creek in the northwest branch trail in silver

full of serious felony allegations. fairfax police say someone threatened death or bodily injury to several students at lanier in fairfax. >> reporter: fairfax police began investigating instagram posts. it read, watch out. i'm coming, followed by a knife, a gun and a bomb emoji. >> reporter: within just a few hours police track do you understand the young suspect, a student here at lanier. >> as a mom, i don't know what to tell you. >> given the suspect's a juvenile we will not reveal her or her mom's name. >> she wasn't thinking like an adult. we all make mistakes and -- unfortunately, it was her. >> reporter: police seized a list of items from their home including a cell phone and its contacts and log-in information and other social media accounts. >> it was too much and she couldn't handle it anymore. >> reporter: her mom said it was her daughter's way of reacting

held by wasserman schultz. he was arrested after landing the gyrocopter in a protest for campaign finance reform. that conviction does not make him ineligible to run for congress. wendy? >> there is a warning for you last-minute shoppers who are looking for something unique for their children. a lot of people are getting emails or handwritten letters. it tells you to enter personal and credit card information. these sites are scammings and make sure you don't fall for it and check the business bureau to make sure the company is legit and look for poor spelling and grammar mistakes and make sure you see the lock icon in the browser bar which means that your payments are secure. the woman accused of driving her car into crowds on the vegas strip appeared in court today. lakeisha holloway was arraigned on murder, hit and run and child abuse charges. investigators say they have video of holloway turning into

groups of people at least twice. prosecutors say more charges are likely. holloway did not enter a plea today, but has not been very cooperative with police. more than 100 million people are expected to hit the roads and travel at least 50 miles this holiday week and that's an increase from last year and a big factor are those falling gas prices. aaa says the average for a gallon of regular hit $1.99 this week, the lowest in more than five years. we're on par with that and the d.c. area. as always, the cheapest in our area is virginia averaging $1.89, but check out this from one of our producers at a what what in spotsylvania. regular gas just $1.69. > . i'm carol maloney out at redskins park and skins back to work prepping for the biggest game in years. a date with the eagles on

notice the bright colors here on future weather. the yellows and the oranges and southern maryland and the northern neck by noon and that's heavy rain and potentially some strong, gusty winds and by 3:00 and it looks like the area returns to dry condition and we'll stay dry through christmas eve and 6:00, the temperature around 70 degrees and as we work our way through 9:00 p.m. and midnight. 9:00 p.m., the temperature at 67 by midnight and areas of fog form for your christmas eve and christmas morning we're dealing with patchy fog and it's likely dry at breakfast. by the time lunchtime rolls around showers are possible and we have to keep the chance of showers in the forecast right on through dinner time and notice throughout the day on christmas, temperatures hang out at christmas with a high of 68 degrees. for your 70, there is the chance of showers on saturday mainly during the first half of the day. sunday again, we're keeping it dry and warm and a high temperature of 75 degrees and travel not just locally, but

storms expected tonight. he calls himself the kush god. police say he's been openly selling marijuana on the streets of d.c. out of high-end luxury cars. news 4's mark segraves has been following this developing story all day and he's in the courthouse where the man just appeared before a judge. mark? >> yeah, jim. >> nicholas cunningham stood before a d.c. superior court judge and told him i'm a businessman and then he pled not guilty to four counts of selling marijuana and then the man who goes by the name of kush god walked out of a d.c. superior court and stood on the sidewalk and told reporters that he plans to be back on the streets of d.d. krch d.c. handing out marijuana. >> nicholas cunningham wasn't hiding the fact he was distributing marijuana on the streets of d.c. his cars were covered with pictures of marijuana. >> specifically to heal the nation. that's why we came to d.c.. >> cunningham and his employees would set up shop in northwest

he never knew gave blood in honor of the young officer who was killed in the line of duty. >> reporter: news 4's kristen wright shows us the outpouring from the support and the community he served. >> when debbie wolf heard about the blood drive to honor fallen montgomery county police officer noah leotta. he had to be here to give. she feels a personal connection. >> i am a retired police officer. i have a 24-year-old daughter and i can't imagine the loss of of a child. >> officer leotta was also 24. killed by a suspected drunk driver earlier this month. the blood drive at public safety headquarters in gaithersburg is giving life. >> it's just an easy way to help save a life. the drive was planned months ago, but after it was named in officer leotta's honor, every time slot filled up and that's more than 100 donors and this gives people a way to feel he's doing something in his memory. >> i think it's awesome.
