more than a million people all packed in tight from around the world. some started lining up as early as 11:00 in the morning, showing real dedication to what many consider a bucket list item, new year's eve in times square. while they've been waiting, performers have been performing. including carrie underwood and others. police a visible presence here tonight. 6,000 officers assigned to time square making sure everyone gets 2016 off to a fun start and safe start. i'm sarah. >> embracing were overshadows e by a threat in munich. they had to shut down the city and party goers were told to avoid big crowds. so far, they haven't found anything suspicious.

tells me the man in custody was just 14 years old at the time of the murder. >> the armed robbery suspect in this case shot and killed him, simply because he was an employee of the store. >> reporter: 37-year-old muhammad was working hard to support his family and led him to a job at king gas convenience store at the 2100 block of martin luther king avenue in southeast washington. he was shot to death during a robbery of the store. the case remained unsolved until today. >> we had information from this community that helped us get where we are today and we had forensic evidence and those two things allowed us to finally bring closure to this family. >> he was one of five people murdered in a 48 sparms sm of violence in the district. his killer, just 14 at the time, is the work of investigators who

the festivities cap off at midnight with fireworks over the potomac. >> there are multiple reports tonight that president obama will go it alone next week and take executive action on gun control. a source inside a gun control advocacy group said the president will require more small gun sell others to be licensed and require background checks when ever a gun is sold. that would close the so-called gun show loophole. new tonight, bill cosby is tweeting for the first time in months and the backlash has been swift and hard. cosby tweeted for the first time since he was charged with sexual assault with a simple message. friends and fans, thank you. some people have been sending messages of support. most of the responses are so negative, they're not suitable for tv. cosby was charged with sexually assaulting a woman in 2004 but cosby says that encounter was consensual. possible shots fired.

tonight, we're working to learn if any is going to be charged. police took several people into custody on new hampshire avenue and silver spring this afternoon. we're told the chase between the two started in prince george's county after someone flashed a gun. the drivers ended up on montgomery where it went the wrong way down new hampshire avenue and hit several cars. >> i looked over, these two cars, i don't know if they were in the same lane or next to each other. they were definitely screaming very angrily at each other. right after i heard them scre screaming at each other i heard a noise and a little crash. >> police pulled four people out of a car in a nearby shopping center and handcuffed them. no word tonight if any was charged or if shots were actually fired. police tell us the two groups actually do know each other. i got to tell you a lot of folks watching us probably in for the night at this point but a lot of people probably thinking ahead,

this is a long holiday weekend. >> long holiday weekend and what's going to happen with 2016 we will finally get cold air. we have not seen any. december, the warmest december ever in our region. it looks like january is not going to follow suit. take a look out there right now. temperatures still on the mild side. little bit of a breeze. again, very nice and very mild this time of year. 46 degrees. winds out of the north at 9 miles an hour. the average high today is 44. at 11:00 at night, we're still above the average high. that's the kind of temperatures we've been dealing with. 39 in la ray, 46 in annapolis. tomorrow on the cooler side but not quite as cool as it gets this weekend and next week. no rain to talk about. we have not only been warm in december, we've been very wet as well. the last 10 days we had cloud cover and rain and today no rain. i don't see another chance of rain or snow in the forecast either for at least the next

seven days. we do have a lot of cloud cover moving across our region. a lot of rain down to the south. see how the clouds are moving out of canada to the u.s.? that's where the cold air is. right now, 19 degrees in minneapolis, 23 in chicago. that's the cold air that will eventually get to the east coast, even boston at 40 degrees on new year's eve. kind of amazing, 54 towards raleigh, the cold air will move in here and that's what the headlines are to expect from the new year, starting off fairly cold. arctic air of the season comes in next week. >> yes, snow, it is coming probably later this month or into february. not quite yet. not quite yet. i'm teasing you a little bit but our official forecast still calls for a fairly snowy february. tomorrow, not even cold enough for snow. a little bit above average. a little bit of breeze tomorrow and colder conditions. forecast tomorrow, 44 around
