"news4's" molette green is live at the navy yard metro station with a look at what officials are doing next. molette? >> reporter: aaron, good morning. the rail lines just opened for business, so no problem this morning. regular rail passengers are accustomed on any given day there could be trouble that comes up especially on a system that's struggling to regain its footing with safety problems challenging it on a regular basis it seems with customers. now wednesday here at the navy yard where i am, there was a big problem, big delays came as a train carrying passengered separated as it approached the navy yard station.

there were no injuries but it caused a ripple effect and major delays throughout the system. metro apologized, promised a complete investigation and, as well, transparency with the public to try to get information with the folks who use the system so that they know metro is working to fix safety problems, problems in the system that will cause a snag in your get-along on any gifrp day. there were other problems on metro this week that caused delays as well. frustrating passengers. but, again, metro momsing a much different approach than before with the new leader and, of course, transparency being an important issue for the riding public that. is the latest live from the navy yard stachlgts molette green. back to you. >> thanks, molette. a former groft county commissioner is out on bond after being accused of soliciting a minor for possible

sex. daniel read had been talking online with a montgomery county detective posing a of a 15-year-old boy. officers made the arrest after he tried to meet the teen at a mcdonald's in germantown. he started working there four years ago. a man heads back to court. chris fe christopher bartley was accused. he pled guilty in aulg and will be sentenced today. 5:04. d.c.'s fire chief says a mistake that led to a man's death will not happen began. albert jackson died after he had a heart attack. firefighters showed up to his house and then left after they thought he was someone police were questioning nearby. now they have to tell dispatchers exactly where they are when they arrive at the scene. >> they're not only supposed to

welcome back. we could learn how many things will disappear. the schools need to save at least $50 million. "news4's" megan mcgrath is live at the elementary school with multiple cuts. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. dr. karen garza says funding for 2017 is not enough, in fact, that the budget situation is so bleak that major cuts are going to have to be made up less additional funding makes its way into the school system. let's take a look at some of the specifics here. potential cuts could increase class sizes, eliminate freshmen sports teams and eliminate language immersion programs and eliminating the bus service. a specialized task force has come up with two different plans. the first outlines cuts for a $50 million budget shortfall. the second outlines cuts if

there was a $75 million shortfall. school officials say both plans are painful and will be felt in the classrooms. now, the school superintendent is going to introduce her budget proposal later tonight to the school board at a meeting taking place at 7:00. parents, students, and teachers are planning to rally in advance of that at luther middle school. they're going to be gathering at 6:30, and they'll be calling for full funding in order to avoid some of these cuts, but what the school system is saying is that without additional funding things are going to be painful. cuts will need to be made. things will change. it will affect classrooms and programs and i'm going have more on this coming up in the next half hour or so and we're going to speak to one of the parents involved in the task force. back to you. >> we're looking forward to that. in response to the possible cuts, students, teachers, and parents will hold a budget rally. it will be held at luth]i÷

jackson middle school in falls church. they want the school fully funded. they're trying to prevejt their client from testifying against a fell low officer charged in the death of freddie gray. gray died in police custody. a weather judge ruled porlter must take the stand in the trial of senior officer goodson. he was driving the van in which gray suffered a fatal neck injury. porter's trial ended in a hung jury. according to reuters, tashfeen malik's interviewdy not show any irregularities or raise any suspicions. reuters says that's according to an official file on her. there were pictures and e-mails proving her relationship with the other shooter syed farook. the couple shot and kill 14d

people early last month. an accident forced firefighters to block a lane between connecticut and georgia avenues. shortly after that another car slammed into the fire truck and flipped over. four were injured. one was seriously injured. a worker who fell is 15 feet into a worker site is recovering. it happened around 1:00 p.m. on euclid street northwest. firefighters put the work owner a stretcher and hoisted him out of the site with a crane. he is being treated at the hospital. lawmakers are making an attempt to revoke bill cosby's medal of freedom today. representative paul gosar is planting to introduce new legislation to take cosby's medal away. as you know he was charged with a felony in pennsylvania last month. the medal is the country's highest civilian award. if the legislation goes through, it will be the first time ever a medal of freedom has been revoked. 5:18. now to decision 2016.

looking a little cloudy, chuck. >> it is. good morning, everybody. thursday, off to a very cloudy start here in the d.c. metro area, but that's actually protected us from being anywhere near as cold. metro, 32, college park, 36, 31, reston, 34 at joint base andrews under a mostly cloudy sky. you can see the clouds downtown. where the skies are clear, temperatures are way colder. in tupper teens now in the shenandoah valley. so clear skies and 17 in martinsburg, 19 in luray, 23 in frederick, maryland. where the clouds are going to stay, notice how they stay socked in with the clouds but a whole lot more sunshine out from the blue ridge west into the shenandoah valley. this is going to be the case for most if not all of the day. this model keeps the clouds pretty thick. at 3:00 or 4:00, the sun is down after 5:00, but between now and then it should be a mostly sunny day in the shenandoah valley.
