>> a political bit of drizzle, patchy drizzle around. if you're planning on heading out early you'll be driving on wet pavement. allow yourself extra time as we have fog in the area. there's the capitol dome litç . spotlight shining into the fog. we have scattered drizzle around much of the region, the rain coming our way for later tonight into tomorrow. way down here in the tennessee valley, muss miss river valley, around memphis, tennessee, down into alabama and moving into out of mississippi and into alabama. that's going to be coming up our way by late tonight. after midnight tonight into around this time tomorrow morning we'll have steadier rain moving in. blustery winds and big temperature changes. we'll sort all that out coming up in a few minutes. developing in d.c., we're

learning of several shootings overnight, at least one of those deadly, this is off haze street around 9:30. d.c. police say someone shot and killed a person. police are not saying whether the victim was a man or a woman. there is no suspects at this time. >> a man has serious injuries after a shooting on pomroy road southeast. police have not said what led up to the shooting and they don't have suspects in the case. joaquin el chapo guzman is back in the prison he escaped from six months ago. the mexican drug lord was captured it early friday as he tried to escape a government raid. he was first found hiding in a drain, then captured at a motel after an operation that killed five people. officials say he'd been living in a safe house before he escaped prison from prison last year. the u.s. tried to extradite him.

el chapo could be tried in the u.s., the process could take months. for now, the first police officer who faced trial for freddie gray's death won't have to testify against his fellow officers. william porter won a temporary stay yesterday. earlier this week, a judge ordered porter to testify against officer seicaesar goodw. no word when a final rule be will be made. a former prince george's county police officer on his way to prison. santiago was sentenced friday. he was caught on the camera pointing a gun at a man's head and he's going to spend the next five years in prison. may 2014 santiago approached a vehicle parked in front of a home. a woman had to come out of the house to tell santiago that the victim lived there.

prosecutors say santiago showed no remorse. we are learning details of a settlement that accused city workers of trading sex for repairs. they announced details last night at a news conference. the women say2they were denied basic repairs while living in public housing units because they refused to have sex with the handy men. a criminal investigation is still going on. 50 city workers were fired. an anti-violence watchdog group will be patrolling metro. this comes after a number of violent attacks, including recent robberies and beatings. the guardian angels are say people are becoming afraid to use metro. they plan to increase their presence on parts of the red line system over the weekend. prince william county

officials have taken the first step to get an official fired. guy giffords admitted to infecting voter administratirec the armed group occupying a wildlife refuge center over ranchers rights in oregon refusing to leave. the sheriff offered the group an escort off federal property but they declined. the fbi also involved says it's looking towards a peaceful resolution. there have been no arrests. guess what day it is? >> saturday, january 9th. the music of course gives it away. >> the 23rd annual -- 23 years we've been doing this, nbc 4 health and fitness expos. we are less than three hours away from the apriling at 9:00

the time right now is 6:09. we are following the latest in decision 2016. presidential candidate donald trump made a pretty big mistake at a rally in south carolina on friday. the republican front-runner was speaking to a crowd in rock hill when he discussed his stance on the iraqi war. trump said he didn't want to go but that democratic candidates, hillary clinton and gop rival rand paul voted yes in favor of going to war. except paul was not there at the time. the kentucky senator was elected to office in 2010 and that vote happened back in 2002. coming up tomorrow on "meet the press," republican front-runner donald trump sits down with chuck todd in iowa. you can catch that interview tomorrow at 10:30, right after news 4 today. new york just -- pot was started to be sold legally this

week. five companies were awarded licenses to grow and manufacture as well as sell product. columbia care has operations here in d.c. and just opened right off union square in new york. all cannabis must be grown in the state and each company is licensed to open four dispensaries. there's a big health scare. workers contractedç tuberculos from the elephants. some of the three elephants that tested positive for the disease died from other causes. all the elephants are being kept at least 100 feet from visitors, four times the recommended distance. it's looking a little dark out there this morning. a live look at the capital and national harbor right now. tom is tracking how much rain will track your neighborhood and how much will come down. >> isn't the talk about the

women in virginia will have easier access to free birth control after a $9 million program proposal. the federal grant would cover the cost of several devices training for clinicians and a study on the program's impact.

state lawmakers need to accept the program before it launches. a warning this morning from police in arlington county. they're investigating the string of home burglaries linked to an online cleaning company. talk to police about some steps they say you should take before you let a cleaning service inside your home. >> you are letting somebody into your house. it's not just about taking things from them. it's even their privacy. >> reporter: an migrant to the u.s., jeannine garcia started works as an employee for maxi maids in the late '80s. if a client has a problem with one of her employees, they'll pick up the phone. >> who was at my house? >> reporter: which makes her weary of third party websites that connect customers to housekeepers. the kind arlington county is now investigating. >> they're booking the services online, talking to the person

arriving until late tonight. so we'll stay mostly dry here for the rest of the morning, maybe a little bit of drizzle around for another hour or two. it's hovering around 40 degrees around the metro area and nearby suburbs. shenandoah valley and the mountains, most locations above freezing. there are a few spots in eastern west virginia, watch out, there may be freezing drizzle there. some of the pavements may be icy. over the next 12 hours, by noontime, we should be in the mid to upper 40s, remaining cloudy. then briefly intoç the low 50s around 3:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. holding steady in the low 50s as we get into the evening hours under a cloudy sky. then that rain arrives. here's the hour by hour timing of the rain. right now it does look like we'll have by 9:00 the rain coming into fauquier county, and south of there into the central shenandoah valley. then it gets closer to the metro area, 11:00 p.m., the rain moves

in, the areas in orange and yellow, that's heavier rain. that moving into the shenandoah valley, panhandle of west virginia by 1:00. by 2:00 in the morning, the showers pick up a bit. there may be heaavy downpours into the shenandoah valley. they may abate a bit by 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. showers mainly to our west around 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on sunday. the rain just in time will begin to clear out. by around 11:00 tomorrow morning, most of the rain is over. so for the game at fedex field, 4:40 kickoff, tailgating should be good. a little sun breaking up. blustery winds. the low 60s then in the 50s by kickoff time. and then by the end of the game down into the 40s under a partly cloudy sky, storm team 4 four-day forecast. after that, big change

there's a special beer brewing in northern virginia. it's called curry's cure for a young man battling stage four cancer. her husband owns a brewery. >> his colleagues now stepping up to help. >> reporter: when matt rose and his wife learned last year she was pregnant after years of trying, they were elated, little lance was on the way. then in her 27th week of pregnancy, a terrible discovery, curry had stage 4 stomach cancer. >> it's not a diagnosis you want to hear at any age. we heard it -- we're very happy that lance is okay. and that's the first and foremost. >> reporter: because of the cancer, lance was delivered early in september. curry's now hospitalized. chemotherapy didn't work, so she's receiving immune know therapy treatment.

husband matt rose owns a brewery. casey jones owns fair winds brewing just down the road from matt. >> it hit us hard. we immediately turned and said let's do what we do well. let's brew a beer. >> as we're steeping the grain -- >> reporter: the idea for curey's cure and brewers against cancer was born. word went out and 20 brewers answered the call, gathering today to make this special batch of belgian pale ale. all 20 will soon offer the beer in their tap rooms, proceeds ámedical bills. th curry's >> we want it the to sell very well. the dollars go to her if it sells. we want to sell well and sell fast. >> overwhelming. it is. there's so many good people here. it really does, it makes you feel like everybody is on your side. >> reporter: on top of raising money, though, these brewers hope this turnout will lift

drizzle, low clouds. temperatures are hovering near 40 degrees in the metro area. low to mid-40s around the bay. what to wear today? have a jacket. you may need an umbrella with a little bit of patchy drizzle around. we'll have that with us from time to time over the next couple of hours. right now storm team 4, radar not showing any rain. that will be arriving late tonight. a look at that hour by hour timing. that's coming up in just a few minutes. thank you, tom. new information about a shooting near a high school? d.c. we now know four people were hurt last night in a shooting right outside of eastern senior high school. in the last hour, d.c. police told us two adults and two teenagers were shot on east capitol street northeast. shooting happened during a basketball game. it's not clear if the shooting is connected to that game. police do not have any suspects. happening today, the old "washington post" building, it is coming down. if you work around 15th and elle streets in northwest d.c. or

drive, bike or walk past the area, this will impact you. the "l" street sidewalk and curb lane will be closed for the next 2 1/2 hours. there will still be a bike lane but it will be shifted several feet. when construction is finished in 2018, it will be the new home of fannie mae. we're learning more about the arrest of a fairfax county man who threatened to blow up a gas station. 27-year-old vincent martin made reference to terrorism in repeated e-mails to police. police were able to trace the communications to an apartment a couple of miles away on arlington drive. they arrested martin when he walked out of the front door carrying a backpack that contained a laptop computer. >> you can see him from across the street. he had already started to fire. there was no call in that regard. he just started firing with one aim and one aim only. >> on alert after the ambush

shooting of a philadelphia cop. d.c. police and departments around the country urging their officers to be vigilant. edward archer is accused of firing 11 shots, some at point blank range, hitting officer jesse hartnett three times in the arm. officer hartnett not only survived, he also had the energy and will to chase after and shoot his attacker. archer allegedly told police he did it in the name of islam. now his former lawyer is talking and painting the portrait of a troubled man. drew smith from our sister station in philadelphia has the story. >> reporter: the fbi evidence response team searched homes linked toad ward archer, this one in philadelphia and in delaware county, teams roped off the street outside his mother's home, wearing full body suits. they tookç photos and carried t boxes. >> i was completely blown away, when i heard that the assailant lived in yadin. >> reporter: police in this small borough know archer well,

so do neighbors. while he may have gotten in trouble in the past, he seemed like a regular guy. >> sometimes he would play with the kids. they might play football. >> reporter: the 30-year-old has prior convictions on simple assault and weapons charges. one of archer's form attorneys spoke with us. >> he was very impulsive, paranoid. he was always looking over his shoulder. >> reporter: doug first met archer at a new york city prison. he was arrested at the airport there on a warrant for an assault with a gun out of philadelphia. he was returning from what the fbi says was ten months in egypt. so far, there's nothing to suggest that trip or his 2011 travel to saudi arabia were terror related. >> in 2013 when i met him, talked to him at the prison, i had no indication he had any ties to any type of radical islam, muslim, anything like that. >> reporter: now that investigators are done with their search here, archer's family is back inside this home. they did not want to speak on camera but did say they're

trying to figure this all out. in yadin, pennsylvania, drew smith, news 4. the place is expected to have an easier or harder commute in the near future. it is almost game day. the redskins host the packers tomorrow. finding tickets will not be easy. the surprise one guy got when he showed up at the team's door step.

happening today, neighbors in fairfax county are coming out to discuss those possible cuts to the school system. close to 100 people have signed up to speak at today's public hearing. this comes after superintendent dr. karen garza said she's tired of making cuts to the system. the concerns will be taken to richmond as they decide how much money will go towards the budget. also happening today, the area's first pep rally for peace

we are getting a better picture of what it's going to mean for your commute when new toll rules take effect on i-66. rush hour periods will go from 2 1/2 to 4 hours in each travel direction inside the beltway. solo drivers will have to pay a toll to use those lanes. according to projections, this would lead to an increase in traffic between the beltway and route 7 in virginia in the morning and decrease in traffic in the afternoon. 6:42, your time on this saturday. the "today" show is up next on nbc 4. let's check in and see what they have coming up. >> erica hill and jeff rossen joining us live from new york. nice to see you on a saturday as always. powerball fever sweeping the nation. we're sure you've gotten caught up into it.

afternoon. d.c. police are getting the word out. if you've committed a robbery, the police are coming after you. they've made arrests in five armed robberies in just the past 24 hours. part of a crackdown on repeat offenders. one of those cases, an armed robbery this one at a 7-eleven, police telling news 4 that they have two of the four suspects in custody including the one with the gun who police believe was involved in another armed robbery that happened three months ago. police think this crew is responsible for more robberies and tonight police say they are sending a message. >> those that are thinking to do this, especially those amongst them, we know who you are. we're targeting you, we're coming after you. you're not going to get away with it. no doubt about it, we'll being noing on your door. if you think you have any information that could help out the investigation, please call

much of northern virginia low to mid-40s. quantico at 44. that's the mildest spot. it's above freezing, shenandoah valley, mid-30s. some of the deeper valleys out of the mountains, there may be iciness on the roads. watch out for that. storm team 4 not showing any rain locally. we have a bigger area of moderate rain crossing the mississippi river, coming into mississippi, western tennessee. that's on a track to come our way but not until late tonight. here's the latest hour by hour timing on that. the areas in the greens and yellows and oranges, that's where the moderate showers will begin to move in. this is as of 9:00 this evening. it comes into northern virginia. into western and northern suburbs between 9:00 and 11:00, right into the metro area around midnight. much of the heavier downpours will be west of us. shenandoah valley, out of the mountains, around 2:00 to 4:00 a.m. those showers may cause ponding of water on some of the roadways there. right into the metro area

between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m., some of the moderate showers coming through. things quickly move off to the north, maybe a few lingering sprinkles and drizzle through midmorning. by noontime, we dry out and much 6 the shower activity moves east of the bay, during the afternoon, just in time for the game. we'll begin to clear out at fedex field and we'll have a blustery wind tomorrow as well. for tailgaters at 2:00, low 60s. fight a change from today. and then drop back down into the 50s by kickoff at 4:40 with a bit of a blustery wind. the wind sets down during the evening. by the end of the game, back down to the mid-40s. it will feel like the 30s with the blustery wind. if you are headed to the q else a session, that's going to be at 12:30 this afternoon. also tomorrow, i'll be there at 12:30 for that. great weather as we get into =a from the low 60s on sunday
