yes. we did get a report from the sheriff's department that a man and woman are dead after an apparent murder/suicide. it happened last night around 9:00 p.m. in one of these townhouses in this community. deputies came here after a 911 report of a suicide. now, residents tell me this morning that they heard nothing at all in this community. they didn't even know police were in this community. we are in the lansdowne town center, a community of town homes. you can see the lands down town center not far from this community walking distance really. we are in the 19200 block of wind meade drive and this case is considered domestic in nature, so there is no danger to the community. again, an apparent murder/suicide last night in this community and resident this morning are wondering what happened and how all of this came about. that's the latest live from loudoun county, virginia. back to you. >> thanks, molette. today a second police officer will go on trial in the

death of freddie gray. caesar goodson faces second-degree murder charges, the most serious of all six officers charged. he was driving the van in which gray received a deadly spinal injury last april. to convict goodson, they must prove he was socal lus for gray's life that he deliberately allowed gray to die. look for alerts on our nbc washington app. you may also get alerts about developments in charlottesville. jesse matthew jr. will be in court over hannah graham's death. today they're arguing to keep several search warrants out of the trial. 6:03. when you get to your metro stop today, you may notice a letter from the general manager on safety. it comes nearly a year after the smokes incident.

iconic singer david bowie has died at the age of 69 after an 18-month battle with cancer. family says he died peacefully surrounded by family. bowie turned 69 last friday the same day he released a new album called rock star. already the twitter world responding. prime minister david cameron, quote, i grew up listening to and listening to the pop jeanion david bowie. he was a master who kept getting it right. a huge loss. this one from gene simmons. david bowie, you will be missed and, of course, from madonna, iconic, genius, game-challenger. david bowie gone at the age of 69. it was a routine traffic stop in frederick county that turned into a drug bust. sheriff's deputies tell us they stopped maude johnson in w for a moving violation on route 340 near the jefferson parkway early

welcome back. a catholic man said he was fired by the church after they found out he was in a same-sex marriage. about a dozen family members protested the termination outside of morning mass yesterday. higgins and his husband said they never thought something like this would happen. >> you know, i met people from the choir, i met the pastor. never thought it would happen. but when someone complains, things happen. >> a spokesperson for the archdiocese of washington stressed that higgins was fired not because he is gay but because the church doesn't recognize same-sex marriage. a maryland court has a big ruling to make involving

abortion clinics. a court of appeals is hearing arguments today on whether applicants for licenses should be released. state officials refuse to disclose the names of the attorney general argues releasing the names might jeopardize their safety. two courts have ruled in the state's favor. another big ruling could come soon from the supreme court. the justices are hearing arguments on whether state government workers can still be required to pay dues to cover negotiating contractings. now, this case stems from the california teacher association. the ruling would affect public section unions in 23 states where unions bargain for both members and nonmembers. a murder has become the district's third homicide in a year. police found a man dead on the east sigh. we're still learning more on what led up to the death. the first homicide of 2016 happened last friday. philadelphia police now following up on a tip that the

man suspected of shooting a cop has ties to a radical group. an anonymous person told police that the threat isn't over. police say archer pledged his allegiance to isis and claimed the shooting to islam. a woman accused of carrying out jewelry store heists has her first appearance in court this morning. an gate kemp has jewelry heists stretching from tennessee to north carolina. the police believe she's responsible for half a dozen robberies since april. it's now 6:18. fewer teenagers are smoking but second-hand smoke is still a big problem. data from the cdc shows nearly half of teenagers who didn't use cigarettes still ran into second-hand smoke in2013. the u.s. surgeon general says

problem and then also some travel times in ten minutes. angie? >> thank you, melissa. right now, the final preparations are going on to open a new hov ramp in alexandria. it will be open for tonight's evening rush, in fact. the ramp connects 395 to seminary road and hopefully ease congestion of the highway. we want to get straight to "news4" ee derrick ward with how these lanes will work. welcoming news for many commu r commuters. >> reporter: this was one of the concerns when the m.a.r.c. center was first talked about and being built. now this is vdot'sance to a concern of an already congested seminar. now, this new hov 3 ramp will be open for the evening rush only. take a look at some video. they've been testing it over the past couple of days. what this will do, it will link the hov 3 lanes from 395 to folks coming out of alexandria, and, of course, exiting the

m.a.r.c. center. until now what they've had to do is get off at the springfield parkway exit and take five miles along seminary. that kind of defeats the whole purpose. this is a $76 million project. it's the next to last phase of a whole seer of infrastructure change through here and the next will be a little more pleasant. there will be raised walkways. that's the whole thing in transportation these days. this will be open to buses as well. we're live in alexandria. derrick ward, "news4." back to you. >> looking forward to that. thanks, derek. there is a new proposal to extend the 95 express lanes in stafford. they want to add an extension of lanes. for this to work vdot would have to agree with the operators.
