very light snow. accumulation totals and timing coming up. a developing story in charles county. a man was shot and killed inside a house in waldorf. this happened at 4:00 this morning on terrace drive, not far from the shopping plaza. another man was assaulted there. he is expected to be okay. the sheriff's office says the home was targeted and the shooting is not random. deputies are on the lookout for two men who may be involved. much more at 11:30. today marks 12 months since a metro tunnel filled up with smoke with a train inside. dozens of people were stuck in the tunnel near the l'enfant station. the smoke made 80 people sick and killed one woman on board. now all those people are suing metro. derrick ward is talking to some of them now. we'll hear from him coming up in about 15 minutes. metro's former interim general manager will stay on the transit agency. he will stay on with them.

he is now the new executive manager officer -- managing officer. he will provide overall support. with breaking news, i'm scott mcfarlane. internal auditors for d.c. public schools say there was gross mismanagement of money by a former athletic director. she served from 2011 to 2015. colleagues found $32,000 in cash in bags waiting to be deposited for months in her offices. and the internal report says hundreds of thousands of dollars from proceeds and ticket sales and concession sales during high school sporting events were deposited weeks or months late. even though the bank in which

d.c. public schools has an account is just across the street from athletic department headquarters. the audit questions why the athletic director aloud some student fund money to be spent on hospitality suite buffets and extravagant food for adults and vips at sporting events. in december when we spoke with evans about her resignation she said there was no money missing. d.c. public schools in a statement to the new 4 iteam said this audit revealed noncompliance with certain rules regarding management of athletic activity funds and we have taken steps to make sure such funds are properly handled. isis did it. that word from turkey's president after an explosion killed ten foreigners and wounded more than a dozen others. look at some of this video of

developing today, sergeant bowe bergdahl is in a military court on a motioning hearing that he deserted the army. he left his post in afghanistan back in 2009 and was captured by the taliban and held for five years. he is facing charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. if convicted he could be sensed to li sentenced to life in prison. we are learning more about a house that blew up in ohio this happened outside of cleveland. this morning two young girls who were killed in the explosion were 8 and 12 years old. their parts were also killed. officials are working to find out if a gas leak sparked that blaze. immigration home raids have targeted central american families that have arrived in

it's been one year since the underground emergency on metro. the tunnel near the l'enfant plaza filled up with smoke, a woman died. now the transit agency is facing dozens of lawsuits. derrick ward is at the national

press club in northwest washington where he talked to some of the people suing metro. good morning. >> good morning, barbara. we've now learned that there are going to be 87 separate lawsuits filed on behalf of passengers and people on that train. this is also not counting the lawsuit filed by the family of the woman who died in that accident that happened one year ago today. the story is still clear. the l'enfant plaza train was leaving, heading to virginia, yellow line train, got into the tunnel, they encountered smoke from an arcing track insulator. that smoke was acrid and some of the plaintiffs in the suit want to know what was in the smoke. they believe metro has not been forthcoming, they are worried about health problems down the line and they say they are trying to make the system safer to see no one has to go through the ordeal that they went through when year ago today. they are still dealing with memories of that day.

>> the best thing you can do is stay put, if you open the doors, get off the train, the train can't move. so you would be jeopardizing everybody else if you tried to get off the train. so, there was nothing do but just wait and hope that the smoke didn't get worse. >> i don't even take it too far even to get under the tunnels to want to relive that. so, you know, metro will help me get to where i need to get to, but it's hard. >> now, metro has instituted a series of reforms. they are under federal observance now because of problems with the system. and they have done some things to alleviate issues like this. protocols for the ventilation systems which didn't seem to work properly on the day of that incident. they put a fire department person in the control center to help coordinate response. i asked one of the plaintiffs what they thought about that. they said it was cold comfort to him because that day he watched

a woman die. as for this lawsuit, they are not attaching a dollar amount to it. they say it's about information. they would like to see this suit go to court and it's likely that a jury could decide upon some sort of compensation for the damage or the pain and suffering or what have you if they determine that was the case of these plaintiffs in this lawsuit announced today. more on this coming up on news 4. right now live in northwest, derrick ward, back to you. a scam alert for you now if you live in prince george's county. the sheriff says somebody is calling peoples houses claiming to be with the sheriffs office. that person says you missed grand jury duty and you have to pay a fine. then the scammer tells you to buy a prepaid cash card. the sheriffs office says law enforcement will never ask you to send money over the phone. they say do not send it and give the real office a call to report what happened. in news 4 your health, new recommendations may have you confused over when to get a

mammogram. anne thompson breaks down the new guidelines. >> reporter: the ever shifting guidelines for starting mammograms leave some women feeling like they're playing a game of chance. age 40 and once a year says the american congress of observe trish reg obstetricians and gynecologists. 50 and every two years is the updated guidance by the task force. >> in the 40s, we find that the benefit, you know, is smaller. and that there are also harms. >> reporter: those harms, the task force says, includes false positives which can be expensive financially and emotion limit these three groups don't agree when to start but agree a woman's risk increases during her 40s. all the different recommendations have 35-year-old susan fisher, mom to two boys,

i'm molette green in waldorf. shots rang out inside this home in this neighborhood off the beaten path. a man in his 30th is dead and investigators say this was not random. >> it's relatively quiet back here. >> reporter: an isolated street steps from railroad tracks is turned upside down before sunrise. investigators say two men targeted a house at the end of the 11500 block of terrace drive after 4:00 a.m. a man in his 30s is shot dead multiple times in a hallway. >> we believe somebody may have knocked on the door or maybe the door was open and the suspects forced their way inside.

a male victim was shot. another male was assaulted. one woman fled, another woman stayed. >> reporter: the man assaulted refused to go to the hospital. no one else was hurt. >> reporter: one neighbor two doors down describes hearing a loud noise around the time the 911 call reported shots fired. this house only stands out because of the luxury cars parked in the driveway. >> i see the cars and stuff like that. >> there's no indication this was a random attack. >> reporter: no official motive yet as investigators look for possible clues and evidence throughout the neighborhood. search for two men wearing masks seen leaving this neighborhood. in waldorf, molette green, news 4. >> this is the second homicide of the year in waldorf. last wednesday a man was shot and killed. crime stoppers is offering a reward of $1,000 for information

in that case. court documents reveal 31 malik jones is from baltimore. documents says in 2011 jones traveled from new york to somalia where he learned how to fight against kenyan government soldiers. kenyan authorities arrested jones last month. they say he was trying to board a boat to yemen. jones is back in the u.s. and facing terrorism charges in new york. tense moments as new body camera video shows the raid that captured mexican drug lord was ke joaquin el chapo guzman. authorities say guzman's interview with sean penn played no part in his apprehension. the d.c. snow team is sending 15 plows out on to the roads today. you may see them near bridges,

first cut since finishing chemo treatment. he was diagnosed back in june with nonhodgkin's lymphoma. after months of treatment he announced he's cancer-free. cancer took the life of bo biden, and mr. biden said he is ready to use his son's memory as inspiration. >> one of the things the president will talk about tonight in the state of the union is this fight against cancer. something that you have taken the mantle of and have said is very, very personal. who are you hoping to accomplish? >> well, we're so close to so many breakthroughs in cancer. this is one of those reflection points, but they are sort of stove pipes. there's a lot of brilliant people doing a lot of important stuff but not enough integration, and i'm hoping and so far the response has been very positive from the leaders in the field to -- to let me be the convener of these folks and move things along more quickly. >> when he announced he would not run for president, vice
