. . . we are following breaking news out of prince george's county, an accident involving seven vehicles new information on what caused the collapse of a silo in loudoun county that killed one person. the news 4 iteam has the new report and reaction from the victim's family. i'm tracking warmer temperatures today. cold air returns over the lorng weekend along with some rain. i have the big winners of the powerball jackpot.

breaking news on largo road. >> we are at the intersection of largo and la sar. take a look at this. this is one of the most devastating accidents i have seen in quite some time. it is hard to make out but there are seven vehicles involved in this accident. one person in the car was taken away nonresponsive. we have no more word about the person's condition except it was a female. this happened at about 9:00 a.m. or shortly after at the intersection of andover and largo in maryland. seven cars involved. the person in the red car had to be taken out. they had to cut the roof off of the car to get that person out. we hear from some witnesses where it all started with the

black pickup truck was eastbound on landover road. this he noticed it was driving erratically. some got out of the way but these cars were waiting at the light and they weren't able. let's hear from the witness and someone else that got word about this. >> once he got right here, he hit the curb and went airborne into the cars at the red line. >> the black truck did. >> what happened to that red pickup? >> that's the first car he hit. that's the first one he hit. that drug into all the rest of the cars. >> sitting at the light on her way to work, someone was speeding up behind her and hit another one and her car and a truck flew over the top of her car. she landed, i guess that's hr car right there in the median. so she is okay. >> reporter: as you can see, that red car shall the one on its side was heading this way. sort of as if it was heading in the direction toward your camera.

that car was hit been an eastbound car pushed over into the traffic waiting at the light. here, you see the devastation. there were few drivers and people in the cars. they were out here talking to police. receipt construction team is here now. it is going to be closed for some time. you will notice some traffic problems at route 202 that will probably be for quite some time. we are live in largo, derrick ward, news 4, back to you. downed wires are closing the road in fairfax county. toeben road will be closed for another couple of hours, because a car crashed and knocked over a poll and power lines at the intersection. take a look at the scene this morning. dominion and virginia are on the scene. crews reopened woodburn about an hour ago. >> i'm erika gonzales from the live desk with the story, the news 4 iteam first broke. we now know why a silo in

leesburg broke apart trapping and killing an 18-year-old worker. corroded parts and failure to conduct inspections led to that fatal incident according to a federal report. 500 tons of sand particles in the silo designed to hold less than half of that. the 18-year-old's father told the iteam he saw the report but wasn't ready to talk about his son's death. a citation has been issued to the operator of the quarry. back over to you, barbara. >> thanks, erika. right now, president obama is in baton rouge, louisiana, pushing the priorities he laid out in tuesday's state of the union. he expected to thank governor john bell ed warksds the democratic governor that recently started the process to expand the state's medicaid program reversing his republican predecessor. the white house unveiled a proposal asking congress to provide full funding for the

first three years after states expand their programs. we now know where the winners bought those tickets that won the historic jackpot. three people are splitting the big prize. here, you can see crowds at a 711 outside anaheim, california, where one of the winning tickets was sold. the other winners were in melbourne beach, florida and mumford, tennessee. none of the states let winners remain anonymous. 4, 8, 19, 27, 34 and the powerball was 10. if you match the first five numbers, you won $1 million. three did that. one was in upper marlboro and bradens burg and fredericks maryland a two people in virginia hit $1 million and two people in the district won $50,000 each. >> noticeably, warmer today than yesterday. most of us are up more than

i'm megan mcgrath live in aadelphi where they are boarding up these condominiums. we have seen a steady stream of residents returning after last night's fire. they are still not allowed inside. >> we have to start a new leaf. it is really hard for us. >> reporter: she returns this morning in the hopes of salvaging some things. he and his family moved here two years ago from bangladesh. >> we want to be on the east side. >> reporter: their unit is on the top floor next to the one that caught on fire. >> reporter: you have nowhere to live? >> no, we don't have anywhere to live. >> reporter: what are you going to do? >> i cannot think of it at this moment. >> reporter: the damage on the top floor is bad. only the restoration workers are allowed inside at this point.

hospital. in adelphi, megan mcgrath. news 4. an american woman, ashley olesen was found dead strangled in her apartment. investigators say they aest ared the prime suspect, a 25-year-old that dna led them to. she had two fractures in her skull. >> what started out as an attempted robbery had an unexpected ening. a store clerk is caught with the would-be robber and talked him into leaving the store empty handed. >> i have never seen anything like this. >> the unarmed clerk is being held at gunpoint there. watch closely as the clerk begins to reprimand the robber. he tries to get in himself. no luck. the argument lasted nearly six minutes before the would-be robber says he has had enough.

they could become part of a life saving team that starts with the community. >> i understand you have 5,000 trained in this before september this year. is that right? >> that's our goal, 5,000 people. hopefully, we're going to go way beyond those numbers. with the success that we had similar to this past weekend at the nbc 4 expo, we fully expect to exceed those numbers. >> what is the hands-on method? how is it different from what we have learned in the past? >> the studies have shown that the one thing that makes a difference is compression, compressions during cpr, so the old form of cpr involved mouth to mouth and there were some barriers to bystanders performing it. the scientists have shown that doing compressions alone at a certain rate and depth and acting quickly can improve the chances of survival two to threefold. >> how are you going to get folks involved in this? are there some other opportunities other than the expo we just had?

>> it is too ulactually a lot o. we trained all ages. it is really fun to much wa the younger kids understand how they can make a difference. we are looking at schools and partnering with businesses and organizations. so that we have a wide breath of the community that's involved and can act. >> chief, it doesn't matter how big the person is if they are going to do a compression on somebody who is? who needs it. >> we can get people started with compressions on someone. something is better than nothing when someone suffers a cardiac arrest event. the quicker we can start the compressions, the better the chance of survival is. >> you are going to be out there in the community getting people involved. is that right? >> we are reaching out in all different venues to try and spread the word. this will be a heart safe community. that's what the mayor is

there is now a $1 million plan in the works to bring capital bike share to fairfax county. they approved 11 bike share stations in tysons and 15 in reston. the first of the stations are expected to open this fall. we don't know exactly where in those towns that they will be. amelia? >> most of us around 40 degrees. washington, coming in at 39. a high of 47 degrees with mostly sunny skies. clouds quickly increased

largo road is closed after a seven-vehicle accident. four were injured, one in critical condition. no word when the road will reopen. it could be 1:00 this afternoon before tobin road at wooddale will reopen. a car crash knocked over power poles this morning. he is 18 years old and he is facing murder charges today.

edwin guardo faced a judge for the first time since being arrested for stabbing a man to death at an alexandria park. it happened last month at the 4 mile run park where police found the body of a 22-year-old. our edmond fitzgerald is following this story and tells me alexandria police are saying this stabbing was motivated by the violent game, ms-13. she is going to have more on this story first at 4. in decision 2016, what happens tonight could shape how you vote in the months ahead. fox business network is hosting the first gop debate of the year tonight at 9:00. the top candidates will take the stage. neither rand paul or carly fiorina will be on the stage. they are expecting much the same this time around. we may see donald trump strike back after criticism from the president and the south carolina

fare cars from riders and allowed them to exit the system from free. they will transfer the balance to plastic smart trip cards and resell the smart trip cards at a discounted price. >> one case where there was $100 on the card where it was resold for 60 at a discount. they wouldn't put a dollar figure on how much it cost them. officials say this should not happen again. >> this video shows three prince george's police officers being dragged by a car. it is now headed to jail for a year. they nound him sleeping in his car at a gas station in capital heights in 2013. he sped off when they tried to arrest him for a probation violation. one officer suffered a broken elbow but the other two were also hurt. >> we are back in

some new numbers from the cdc say a lot of us are having babies later in life. the average age for a first-time mother was 24.9 back in 2000. as of two years ago, it rose to 26.3. the jump happened in every state and the district. d.c. and oregon had the biggest increases. >> you know those health warning labels on tobacco products. similar labels would be very effective in limiting how much sugar american children consume. researchers say that parents are much less likely to buy drinks that have a warning label. the label would alert parents to the dangers of obesity, diabetes and tooth

three questions for the us senate. congress just voted to label genetically engineered salmon; why not other foods? gmo crops are doused with heavy doses of an herbicide the world health organization says probably causes cancer. isn't that reason enough to label? 64 other countries label gmos. why don't american shoppers have the same information? tell your senator, high tech gimmicks like qr codes aren't the answer. we need clear on-package labeling.

celebrations at three stores across the country this morning. here are the places that sold the winning powerball ticket. now, three people will be sharing that $1.5 billion prize. jennifer bjorklund is at a 7-eleven. you can hear them chanting in a sea that i can only describe as surreal after the announcement. you can see here on this newspaper that this is the jackpot. this is an amazing jackpot that was sold. one ticket sold here. it will be split between two other ticket holders, one in

florida, one in tennessee and the owner of this store showed up in the middle of the night so excited that his store had sold one of those winning jackpot tickets. unbeknownst to them, they were splitting it. at the moment of all those people showing up, they really thought they had the only winning ticket. split three ways, is still a huge amount. but a billionaire got people really excited. that person holding the ticket, we still don't know who that person or that group is. in any of the cases, we can tell you that lottery officials are on their way here and those two other stores that sold those tickets to present them with the banners and the owners of the store here that $1 million check they are commissioned for selling. a lot of excitement here as people stand around and wait and celebrate, eve thoen they lost. barbara?

live musical broadcast. nbc tweeted that the deal isn't necessarily close to being done but it is looking like december. hairspray follows the sound of music, peter pan and more recently, the wiz. back in baltimore in 1962 follows an avid dancer and fan of the courtney collins show on which she eventually makes an appearance. the original "hairspray" movie starred rickie lake and debbie harry. this shows the 2007 version of the movie starring john travolta. according to "us weekly," one direction is splitting up. what? five months after announcing they would begin an extended hiatus in march, it seems they may be going in more than one direction. you may remember that zane malac left the group last march. the boy band got their start on the u.k.'s "x" factor in 2010. >> how would you like to carpool karaoke with adele?
