right now the search for survivors continues. it's underway after two u.s. marine helicopters collided off the coast of hawaii. a total of 12 people were on board for a nighttime training mission over the north shore of oahu. coast guard rescuers spotted burning debris in the water and an empty life raft and say so far there are no signs of survivors. the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. >> a police chase on i-66 ended in a crash this morning. you're looking at the scene off we westmoreland street where a car hit a tree and another car and the driver ran away. the driver sped away after being pulled over for speeding. he was charged with eluding police, possessing a concealed weapon, hit and run and driving under the influence of drugs. i'm molette green live in

d.c.'s ward 8, a neighborhood where businesses here tend to get hit hard by criminals. right now the mayor just moments away from signing her new safety initiative into law. but i talked to one small business owner who has a lot of questions about the real cost. this popular h street coffee shop already has cameras, but buying into the mayor's new public safety plan is not so simple for a small business owner. >> the only thing is i think who will spend the money. >> reporter: the legislation knois part of mayor bowser's effort to deter crime and i.d. suspects. the program would provide rebates to property and business owners, even churches who install security cameras and register the system with d.c. police. years ago criminals targeted this shop, shattering the glass windows.

the wait is almost over. giant panda cub bei bei will make his public debut tomorrow. megan mcgrath has some tips if you're heading to the zoo. >> reporter: the national zoo will be overrun by panda lovers this weekend as bei tle panda c overwhelm debut. here he is daughter his media debut, but on saturday bei bei will be availability to the public for the first time. he's almost 25 pounds. his name means pressures treasure, he's definitely precious. we are expecting big crowds at the zoo for this event. the panda house opens at 9:00 a.m. folks will want to use the asia trail entrance, that's the one

that the ebola crisis in west africa is over, today we're hearing why it may not be. health officials in sierra leone say a woman died of ebola earlier this month. the news was confirmed this morning. we also learned that the woman came in contact with 27 people before she died. just yesterday the who said west africa was completely ebola free. a warning from the cdc is on its way urging pregnant women not to travel to certain areas of the caribbean. in those regions, the zika virus is blamed for thousands of birth defects. as tom costello reports, there's concern that it could spread here in the u.s. >> reporter: in northern brazil, babies born with abnormally small heads and brain damage that normally leads to death. researchers believe mosquitos

because of retirements. >> there's a new bill in the works in virginia that deals with the books your children read in school. if the bill is passed, would receive a letter. the paper says this is happening after a fairfax county parent wanted tony morrison's beloved banned. it appears that a good number of parents of kids with food allergies don't know how to handle a severe reaction. researchers say only a third of parents in a new study remembered their allergist explaining when to use an epi pen. even fewer said they were shown how to use them. experts say doctors need to be sure parents can repeat the directions.

right now a look at new nbc news "wall street journal" poll that came out before the debate. trump leads with 33%. senator cruz is distant second with 20%. senator marco rubio and ben carson are close with 13% and 12%. jeb bush and governor chris christie are tied at 5%. republican presidential candidate carly fiorina during last night's undercar debate said unlike another woman in the race, she actually enjoys spending time with her husband. clinton is often a target in fiorina's stump speech. fiorina says she is the only republican candidate that can beat clinton because she won't play the gender card against her. it looks like taiwan will elect its first female president tomorrow. the democratic progressive party's candidate would be the first asian woman elected head of state without having been the

skyline will not be built. walmart released the statement. it reads in part this decision will not affect our three existing stores here and we look forward to continue serving these customers in the future. we'll have reaction from district leaders this afternoon. 16 weeks of paid family leave, that's the proposal here in the district. but officials say the plan is going to cost way too much. at a council meeting yesterday, the district's chief financial officer said a proposed 1% payroll tax to pay for the program wouldn't bring in enough cash. if you live and work in d.c. you would get 16 weeks of paid leave for the birth of a child, medical condition or caring for a sick relative. some business leaders and council members support this legislation. >> the bill as it is currently structured has a lot of unknowns. >> we can do this. we can afford it we can do it. our residents deserve it. >> the district will have another public hearing on this issue next month.
