department. major news affecting nearly every corner of the world. the u.s. does a prison swap with iran, and that country is freed of economic sanctions. and new reaction tonight from a neighbor of one of the local men arrested on isis-related charges. news4 at 11:00 starts now. the arlington police department evacuated after a bomb threat. employees had to be moved to another location. the building is on north courthouse road. police blocked off streets and asked people to avoid the area. news4's darcy spencer is live in arlington with the developing story. darcy? >> reporter: erica, the bomb squad went into the building tonight and searched for hours. fortunately, nothing was found. everything has been cleared at this point. and all the street closures that were happening for hours this evening, they've also been lifted. everything back to normal. this all started with a threat

from what they're calling an automated telephone call that's basically a computer call, saying there was an explosive device in the building. a detection dog did alert on something in the public library area of the arlington county police station and that's why the building was evacuated for hours this evening. that affected police, 911, and the sheriff's office. i'm told normal police operations continued. they went to a backup plan. how do you continue 911 operations without people in there? >> sure. so we have a backup location for our 911 operations. they are moving to that location at this point. so there should be no interruption into our 911 call center. >> reporter: now, police are still trying to figure out where exactly this phone call came from, but they say they can be very difficult to trace, because it comes from a computer system, and that remains under investigation tonight. erica, back to you. >> darcy spencer live in arlington for us. now to those big

developments from iran. a whirlwind day ended with the u.s. and world powers lifting sanctions and implementing the new ordeal. the day began with iran releasing five americans in a prison swap. as nbc's richard engel shows us, one of those citizens was "washington post" reporter jason razian. >> reporter: the breakthrough was announced here in vienna and diplomats are calling this implementation day, the day the iran deal came into effect. the day iran was welcomed back to international markets. it seemed like a sweetener in a nuclear deal worth billions to iran. and for five americans, it was sweet indeed. they were finally freed. >> we have received confirmation that five americans who had been unjustly detained in iran have been released from custody. >> reporter: among those released, amir hekmati, a former marine held for over four long years, accused of aiding a

hostile country. saeed abedini, jail for over three years. >> it's something we've been hoping for and praying for. >> and jason rezaian, "the washington post" teheran-based reporter, held often in solitary confinement for a year and a half. >> it's spectacular news. we're just so happy. can't wait to see him. >> "the washington post" in a statement said we couldn't be happier to hear the news. matt trevithick, a student held for 40 days was also released. in exchange, the u.s. agreed to release seven iranians held in the united states. while the prisoner swap is technically unrelated to the nuclear deal, critics denounced washington for signing any agreement while teheran held americans. and hours after the swap was announ announced, the nuclear deal over two years in the making did move ahead. >> iran has carried out necessary measures under that agreement.

two men from woodbridge face terrorism charges after one of them allegedly tried to go to syria to join isis. joseph faroke was arrested friday in richmond. prosecutors charged him with attempting to provide material support and resources to a terrorist organization. mahmoud hasan is charged with aiding faarooq. tonight his neighbors in woodbridge reacted to the arrest. >> it's very scary. because we have lots of kids here. it's just really scary, just to think that somebody so close to you could be affiliated with that. >> both men are expected in federal court in alexandria on tuesday. you can open our nbc washington app to read the charging documents. new tonight, metro trains head to a single track after a man stabbed himself. an ambulance took the man to the hospital in critical condition. pentagon city station never closed during the incident and trains are running normally this
