threat to students tomorrow headed back to school. and local leaders vowing to plow your street at least once by tomorrow. >> why some of you may have to wait almost 24 hours. >> announcer: news 4 at 11:00 begins where breaking news. >> back to work tomorrow, but on a three-hour delay. >> and boys will have the option for unscheduled leave for unscheduled tele work. >> for the first time all week, we also have some different school announcements for tomorrow. d.c. public schools will open on timement and in southern maryland, calvert charles and st. mary's will all open on a two-hour delay. >> all the major districts in virginia are shut down in.

>> fredericksburg schools are closed tomorrow. loudon county are closed for the rest of the week. >> all the biggest concern tonight will be fog. >> that melting continues. that melting adds another aspect to the morning. a lot of slush out there and a lot of it on those roadways. a little bit of flooding on those roads, give yourself a lot of extra time. i really think tomorrow's rush is going to be a problem. take a look outside. not much in the way of rain. we have had a few showers as we move through the evening hours. look at the snow towards the mountains of west virginia.

it would be just showers if they move in here at all. what i am expecting is that colder air to move in tomorrow. currently, 45 degrees in d.c. very warm. the melting continues. but here's the cold air that will filter in during the night tonight and into the day tomorrow. so a stuff ride in the morning. >> we've got some breaking news in oregon where federal agents move in to end a standoff with an armed militia and the shooting started. five are in custody, including the militia leader. state police shut down more than 50 miles of highway. shots were fired, but at this point, we don't know who died.

making for a challenging commute. >> and then there's metro rail. >> we're working to get the 23 track miles of that segment of the silver line back and reopened as soon as it is safe and we are confident that trains can operate reliablely. metro released this video showing the work that's been taking place so the silver line can reopen. that early morning commute will likely be less than desirable. >> so, planning ahead could be a good idea. >> i'll just leave it a little early.

>> the houses on either side were also damaged. those homes had to be evacwaited because they weren't structurally sound. >> we've known for a while that d.c. public schools plan to open tomorrow. tonight, the mayor is sticking to that plan. the schools are ready, but, tonight, some streets and sidewalks may not be. news 4's shamari state's attorney went to get a live look. what's the story? >> well, jim, it's going to be a big challenge for some kids to go to d.c. public schools. as you can see, there's snow all over the place. kids would have to walk through snow just like this in many neighborhoods in order to get to school. some are going to say, okay, i'll do it. others will opt to walk in the street. as you can see, there's no sidewalk here. and that's why drivers need to watch out. >> tracy kingwood worries about kids going to school tomorrow morning in southeast d.c. >> as you can see, a lot of the sidewalks are still covered with

blizzard of 2016. >> our neighborhoods are looking a lot better than they were yesterday when i took over. >> many of the streets appear to be plowed, but many were not. >> it was the public interface that crashed. that was a historic event and we had a high volume of users logging into the system and the system crashed. >> the helicopter video also shows what happened after people on middlefield people flagged down the chopper to help a pregnant woman and husband whose truck had gotten stuck in the snow. they were delighted to learn that one of the men.

>> i want to show you what i was talking about. when you hard the officials say passable, this road is slippery. we've seen cars coming up here tonight and getting stuck. but under the definition of the clearing that's going on right now, it is considered passable, and that is going to make x as i said, for some very difficult driving tomorrow morning. >> jackie, thanks. hey, if you haven't seen a plow yet, here's a look at when some of the other jurisdictions are hoping to get to you. v-dot hopes to make a pass on all residential roads by 6:00 a.m. tourm. the agency says it will begin bringing in its front loaders so it can clear the snow, not just push it aside. montgomery county says it hopes to make a pass in all neighborhoods by 7:00 tomorrow morning.

they traveled to a country where there is a zika outbreak right now. but they say he poses no other risk to virginians because it's not mosquito season here. there's two more countries to the travel warning because of out breaks of zika. the u.s. virgin islands joins the list. and the warning is primarily for pregnant women there is currently no vaccine and symp m symptoms typically last no longer than a week. >> friday, as the rest of us were getting ready for weekend weather, a man was killed in the district. four days later, police are

not a lot going on here. we do have some showers, and we may see astring e sprinkle or two. you can see right here, that rain changing to snow in kwv wv. west virginia. that's the colder air. we'll get rid of this rain shower that should be done by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, notice the temperature. we're not talking about a refreeze unless you live in other air kwoos: this area could be a real probable early tomorrow. down to the south, however umannassis, fredericksburg, most should be above freezing but give yourself a lot of extra time. wednesday morning, just slush spots. here's the day i'm worried about. it's going to be thursday. dangerously slick out there.

all the melting from today and tomorrow is going to freeze over night and tomorrow night. thursday and friday could be some problems. we'll continue to watch out for that. temperatures the next couple of days, warm during the day, or at least boef freezing. 39 on friday, both a little bit below average or whatever. but, overnight, we will freeze each night. that's the kind of scenario that we're going to set up. and what about the flood potential? that's something we definitely have to watch. you get 20, 30, 40 inches like some of our areas and then you get temperatures like that, you could see some flooding. we'll be watching that very,
