we now know the cause of a massive fire about two weeks ago. investigators say an aerosol can unexpectedly started spraying. it hit an open flame on the kitchen stove and started the fire. five were injured, including a firefighter. a husband and wife inside the apartment were among the most serious. the wife remains in the hospital. takit is a weather alert da. we want it check in with chuck bell. good morning. thursday, off it a predictedbly cold start this morning.

today may be the worst of the worst. temperatures are way colder this morning than it will be tomorrow morning. only 10 above in frederick and new market, maryland. 12 in martinsburg and charles town, 15 in warrington, 21 joint base andrews. so the kids going to school this morning, watch out. temperatures upper teens and low 20s at the bus stop this morning. above freezing later on this afternoon, so it will be cold. a little bit on the slushy side and there may be some flurries to contend with late tonight into early tomorrow. more about that coming up in ten minutes. for now over to melissa for traffic. right now of course we expect a nigce light volume. you can see a couple slower spots as we zoom in, but right now for your commute you're probably looking generally pretty good. just have to be aware that the plows are out there here this morning. taking a look as we zoom into montgomery county, southbound

southbound new hampshire after 29 with one lean gettilane getty because of snow removal. and another confirmed case of the zika virus, this this time in l.a. health officials are reporting it's an adolescent girl, however we're told that she has recovered. the l.a. county public health department is reminding travelers to protect themselves from the mosquitos during the outbreak currently going on in 21 countries including latin america, came rib pbeen an puero rico. and health officials are concerned about the effects of the zika virus on pregnant women. tracie potts has more. >> reporter: we're now starting to see cases of people who have traveled to south america back here in the united states with this virus and public health officials are concerned at least two have spoken out saying that

it's spreading fast and that the world is unprepared, that we need quick action so that this doesn't turn into another ebola. we did know that the world health organization is holding a briefing today. president obama was briefed on tuesday. he's urging a vaccine, but that could take years. we know that this virus primarily has its worst effects on women of childbearing age, women who are pregnant. it has led to birth defects. otherwise it's mild and people who get it have immunity for life. but it's spread by mosquitos and the concern is that that moss ke hose k mosquitos will start to invade the southern states and then move northward. the fact that we have olympics in brazil, lots of people traveling back and forth, it is certainly raising lots of concern. they have more than 4,000 suspected cases down there now and in addition to the 200 or so they have confirmed, we also have cases that are confirmed or

reported in california, minnesota, arkansas, new york, illinois and hawaii. >> tracie potts, thank you. back to our coverage of the blizzard of 2016. we know a lot of you are gearing up for another day of tough commuting. you probably heard a lot of more thanes honking if you were stuck near the franconia springfield metro station last night. fairfax county police say an accident on the parkway started a major backup. snow piles didn't help the situation. a lot of people couldn't get out of the metro garage nearby. one man tried to be row dugt difference. >> i with a you cannalked all t depot. >>i ina taking a chance there. metro says you will not be ticketed if you left your car in the garage overnight. trash and recycling services

resume today and road crews are starting the final phase of the snow cleanup. arlington county says all roads are passable, but this could mean just one clear lane. now the focus is on widening the roads and hauling away all the snow. if your street was missed, be sure to call the county right away. it your road make the snow ted lynn? officials in prince george's county said all streets would be passable by 9:00 last night. yesterday some residents were seeing snowplows for the first time since the blizzard began. some beltville residents are happy to see the plows but angry it took so long. one resident had a suggestion on how snow removal could have been faster. >> if you assign one small plow to each development and just have them constantly plow, you don't allow the snow to get so deep that a regular plow can't handle it. >> if you're waking up this morning to a snow filled road, send us your picture, you can

tweet your photos. use the #snow stuck or i can i mail us. if you haven't shoveled your sidewalk, you better get started. montgomery county will start taking complaints at 10:00 this morning. recycling and trash collection will start today. the ride-on bus system is on a normal schedule. if you parked in county garages or parking lot, free parking ends this morning at 9:00. and you can also get a ticket for having a snowy sidewalk today in takoma park. the city manager says tickets range from $25 to 200 bucks. they will first look around apartment complexes and businesses. single family homes will be looked at tomorrow. students in fairfax county will not head back to the classroom until last week. some roads have just one lane for two way traffic. others still have lanes that are narrow or disappear. and the sidewalks are definitely

improvements. the federal government is open take. schools reopened. so that's a good sign. >> you might remember that even the president's motorcade was caught in a slippery mess last week. he says it's the first time in his presidency he was ever stuck in traffic, but he stopped short of criticizing anybody. we're just not used to having this much snow. areas like chicago, buffalo, it's common place. for us, it's a big deal. >> you're right. i think we're going to chuck. you bet. each and every dwa, sunday, sun monday, tuesday, all had temperatures above freezing. in fact had a couple of days in the pif50s monday and tuesday. so we've been able to eat up the snow about as fast as you can go through 20 to 3 in0 inches of i. its lead to icy spots on the roads once again. temperatures now only 10 above in frederick county, maryland. 18 in gaithersburg now.

only 20 in lorton, 25 in quantico. inside the immediate metro area, low to mid-20s. but once you get outside the metro area, it is certainly a very cold start this morning. road impacts dangerously icy again this morning. by this evening, not too bad early this evening. probably staying above breezing until 9:00 or 10:00 tonight, but there will be icy patches to deal with again tomorrow morning. so planning out your day, icy and cold for first thing this morning. layer up. partly cloudy, 35 at noon. clouds will gradually increase during the day. could have a couple of late night flurries. here is the chance up across parts of ohio. this weather system will be more of a miss than a hit for us. but especially north and west of up to, northern maryland into the west of through originof bl
