i'm david culver. >> i'm angie goff. i'm not going to even pretend to predict the weather. but i can predict one thing, car washes will be very busy today. >> amelia segal is tracking big changes. what do you think, amelia? >> warmer weather into the weekend. right now it's a cold morning. you can see steam rising off the buildings. and everybody is still below freezing. washington included, which is now 29 degrees. 27 in gaithersburg. 23 in manassas. beautiful sun right right now. low to mid-40s today. here you can see we're above freezing by 10:00, 11:00 a.m. and then during the afternoon hours, temperatures in the suburbs around 42. 45 for a high here in the district. still tough in spots. improvement each day. great weekend to hit the slopes. angie, i think a lot of people will be at the car wash today or

tomorrow. >> yeah. i bet the lines will be long. lots of you will be heading out this weekend a after being snowed out many days. connecticut avenue, eric is check anything on the conditions. i think it's safe to say no one should be surprised that they are slowed down. there is a lot of plows still out there. >> well, indeed, they are. and you can see where they've been as well here on connecticut avenue. it's always a good sign to see the snow not on the road. but you're also losing a lane. it's going to be harder to walk around. so it's still time for some extreme caution. many of the side streets have finally been hit. some have not. even where the roads have been plowed, you will face some challenges just getting around. that is just reason for caution. be aware a lot of the curb lanes have been compromised, cut down to a third of their normal width. you have to watch out for people making temperatures off the

driveway on sunday when she was hit by a car. chef passed away on monday. no charges have been filed against the driver. and police have not released that driver's name. >> this morning we are learning about another attack on metro involving a group of teenagers. a witness tells news 4 he felt threatened, harassed on the red line. all of this after six teenagers were arrested thursday morning. >> this private school principal doesn't want to reveal his identity out of fear of retaliation. >> i feel angry that as an innocent person it's not safe to ride metro. >> he got on at the brookland station around 5:00 in the evening. >> the train i was on, the car that i was on, did not center many folks on it. >> he said the trouble started with when a group got on the same train he was on at the tpwal detective university metro

five dead, others missing in british columbia. three groups of snow mobilers got caught in the avalanche. rain and snow could have produced stresses in the snowpack. getting word this morning it could take several weeks to fix a crater-size sinkhole near the oregon/california state line. you can see the huge sinkhole opened up on both sides of the major highway. this happened on thursday. officials think heavy rain caused erosion. a 14-year project aimed at defeating the taliban in afghanistan may not be working. according to a new report by a government watch dog, right now the taliban controls more of the country than at any time since u.s. troops invaded in 2001. it seems the lack of security made it almost impossible for u.s. and afghan officials to manage projects funded by the united states. so far they have spent $100 billion to stabilize the region.

it's 9:30. here are the top stories we are following right now. family and friends will gather this morning in montgomery county to remember a young girl who was hit by a car while sledding. a funeral for clara phillips will take place in jermantownment the 5-year-old was sledding down a driveway sunday when she was hit by a car. she died on monday. an area principal says a group of teenagers harassed him on metro friday he said happened at gallaudet metro station. he claims the teens were yelling and terrorizing other passengers. it comes after a fight at the gallery place chinatown station on thursday. the epa says the water in dozens of homes in flint,

it provided such wide latitude to provide licenses that it could cover clerks who object to marriage on any grounds, including interracial marriage. virginia governor mcauliffe said he will veto that measure if it reaches his desk. 9:45. the secret service will spend $54 million upgrading the radio system used to protect the white house. it comes after a government audit. the secret service said radios did not work during the fence jumping incident. the audit found the system worked as it should about 97% of the time. but an upgrade was still recommended. >> today you can learn more about several bills in the pipeline in virginia which includes extending metro service to potomac mill. newly elected senator will update residents at his fitter prince william town hall meeting today he wants to address the

coal ash dilemma. they claim the water has been treated. environmentalists said the utility has received too much leniency from the state. just a couple few weeks ago we could say it looked like it could be one of the worst winters for ski resorts in a long time. >> they were making. it liberty mountain in pennsylvania found the blizzard changed a lot of that. >> after more than two feet of snow and days being trapped inside, lots of people from the washington area have traded in their snow shovels for snow skis. >> we went over christmas. there was no snow. >> huge snowfall came just in time not just for skiers but for all the businesses and employees who count on those skiers for their live hood.

rest of the weekend and workweek, warmer air moves in. spring-like temps. i think you will like some of the temperatures you're seeing. watching closely, rain is likely. rain along the snow melt will lead to flooding concerns. we will continue to update the forecast and keep a close eye on it. right now i tweeted out a picture of light snow in the loray area. maybe a coating. it is dry in the d.c. metro area. temperatures now around 30 degrees. right at freezing in college park, reston. here's the latest on satellite and radar. notice clouds starting to push into the area. mostly to partly sunny skies today. again, during the afternoon hours, temperatures largely will be in the 40s. now, tomorrow morning it won't be as cold. you can see temperatures tomorrow morning in the low to mid-30s. 32 la plata. 36 in washington.

and throughout the day we will warm up into the 50s. by midday hours, temperatures flirting with that 50-degree mark. by 3:00, temperature around 55. a mix of clouds and sun. more clouds in the forecast tomorrow than today. looking ahead to monday, as kids return to school, cool at the bus stop but not freezing. 46 degrees is not bad. temperature of 53. by dismissal on monday, rain showers are possible. look at the temperature. 60 degrees. that will be our high for monday. tuesday, grouped hog day. dry with a high of 50. there's the rain on wednesday. maybe even a few rumbles of thunder. high of 65. as far as rain amounts go, anywhere from a half an inch, to an inch, maybe even a little bit more. we will continue to watch wednesday closely. >> a warm reunion for a dog that fell into an icy lake.

of snow. two teens built an igloo. it has three rooms, a skylight, and of course a sound system. the boys also added some mood lighting. there was even a room divided to the washington capital complete with a hockey stick, puck, poster, flag. it survived for three days before melting into one big slushy mess. if you build an igloo like that, get inasmuch as you can because it doesn't last long around here. thank you for ♪ the sun is coming out a new adventure ♪ along with me ♪ by my side ♪
