shot in the face with a pellet gun on new hampshire avenue. police say for some unknown reason, the person shot at the car with a pellet gun. it hit the driver in the face. he was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. police are investigating the shooting. also developing this morning, 13-year-old virginia girl kidnapped earlier this week is dead. nicole lovell went missing wednesday night. investigator found her remains yesterday in north carolina. 18-year-old david eisenhauer from columbia, maryland is charged with her murder. police arrested eisenhauer who goes to virginia tech. they have not disclosed the relationship between eisenhower and lovell. president hal candidaial ca out in full force this weekend. donald trump and hillary clinton lead their parties in polls. steve handelsman has more.

the family of a man who died just feet from a d.c. fire station wants to make sure no one suffers the same fate as their father. 77-year-old medrick mills jr. died two years ago this month. firefighters refused will help for mills. they said 911 needed to be called before they could respond. the mills family says that similar incidents still happen to this day and that needs to stop. >> how many more times does this have to happen, guys? you have a brand new fire chief. it's still happening.

presidential candidates are making their last minute pushes in iowa. and caucuses at first major k indicator of 2016. the latest poll puts trump on top, but nearly half of caucusgoers are saying they could be i convinced to change their mind. >> it's interesting if you look at the poll k5icarefully. trump voters are least likely to change their mind. but there is flew fluidity among the other through. ted cruz need as bunch of ben carson people to change their mind. he would benefit the most. carson is at 10%. not an insignificant chunk of voters. if you take half his support and add it to cruz it's neck and neck between him and trump. so that's what the cruz people

are working so hard on. trying to unite the evangelical wing of the party. if they're united, he wins. and rubio looking to piece off pieces of a lot of different candidates. he seems to be just better second choice for people than a first choice and that's another thing that you could see some movement based on little differences based on the polling. >> with the caucus, you need people to show up and it looks like you might have brought the weather with you to iowa. they're talking about a snowstorm on monday. >> well, you now the storm is slowing down. but i can tell you you this, if there is a storm, if this blizzard hits tomorrow night, good news for cruz and perhaps clinton. the party stalwarts are the ones most likely to show up. if the weather is nice and actually all the forecasts seems to think that this blizzard is coming tuesday and not monday,

so up around the city. we're learning that thele alexandria council has agreed to set up its own ethics committee. but according to the "washington post," it is not the one envisioned by mayor silverburg. council members voted for more limited version of the mayor's roam. it will now give control of the committee to the all-democratic city council and they are also asking the state for authority to ban or limit gifts to the council. let's turn or our attention to the weather. >> the temperature is trying which means the snow will be melting. but that gives you new problems, right? >> exactly. the potential for some flooding especially on wednesday. but just something to mote about today's temperature. washington currently at 42, our high yesterday in the district was only 43. so we've almost achieved our high temperature yesterday at, what, about 10:0. so weather today a low impact.

mostly to partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures for everybody by at least 10 degrees. 43 in manassas and leesburg. winchester coming in at a comfortable 50 degrees. and here you can see the high temp today in your neighborhood from 50 in hager town and frederick to 57 in manassas and 62 degrees in fredericksburg. so a lot of melting going on today. and the more snow we can melt reduces flooding concerns for wednesday. tomorrow bus stop, all spots above 32. no location tonight will drop to below freezing. so that's great news. the concern for black ice won't be there among other factors tomorrow morning. 47 degrees at that point. so already pretty comfortable for the first day of february. and then as the kids are coming home from school, potentially
