a 13-year-old girl. and storm team4 and a quickly changing weather pattern. >> this will come at a time when a lot of you may be on the road. let's start with veronica johnson. >> we have been working on this throughout the day, amelia segal and myself, tracking this system as it makes its way up the coast. rain showers right now for areas of southeastern virginia and right around areas of southern maryland. so those winter weather advisories have been posted for northumberland, west um berland on off towards the east. that's where the higher accumulation of snowfall will be. this is in no way a big system for us but it will have moderate impacts to the early morning rush because it will be occurring during the morning rush. road temperatures should be high enough. leonardtown, montrose, calvert beach seeing light rain showers right now, but here is the system. it's pretty big and it will continue to track north and northeastward right up the coast

overnight and for early tomorrow morning. with just enough cold air coming in your impacts between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. will be moderate. by the time we get to the latter part of the morning rush, 9:00 a.m. and to lunchtime, minimal impacts. rain showers moving back, snow showers for many and it's a weather alert day for early friday morning. amelia segal is back with what your neighborhood will see. we have the map for new a few minutes. i'm wendy rieger at the live desk. we have learned in the past hour there are three confirmed cases of the zika virus in the district of columbia and one of those people is a pregnant woman. the health department says all three contracted that virus while they were traveling. one infected last year visited south america, the other two, including the pregnant woman, infected while traveling this year. one was visiting central america. the other south america. we don't know the condition of the pregnant woman or her fetus,

but there is obvious concern because of the possible link between zika and birth defects that have been defected in south america. new york is now offering pre tests to pregnant women who have travelled to impact countries. we'll update you as we learn more. breaking news, police investigate a shooting involving one of their own. chopper4 was just over post office road and st. charles parkway in waldorf. police tell us an officer tried to approach a man who was standing in the middle of the section. police say the man began to run. the officer noticed a gun in his waistband. the officer shot him, hit him in the leg. the suspect is expected to be okay. police say they did find a gun on him. some nearby schools were under a shelter in place order for a time. we will update you as we learn more about that. right now we're learning more about the chaotic moments as gunfire rang out in a d.c. neighborhood. >> bullets were flying in just about every direction last night, and four people ended up

police are saying about this, what d.c. police are doing about this. i'll see you at 5:00. pat, back to you. >> thank you, pat collins. first at 4, gruesome new allegations in the death of a 13-year-old girl. a prosecutor says david eisenhauer and natalie keepers, both freshmen at virginia tech, carefully planned the kidnapping and killing of nigh coal lovell. she says the two bought cleaning supplies and a shovel at separate walmart stores and then planned for eyssisenhauer to cu the girl's throat. then they hid her body in the trunks of a lexus. keepers was denied bail today on accessory to murder charges and for helping to hide the body. over in the race for the white house, senator marco rubio is working to win over rand paul supporters before tuesday's new hampshire primary. today rubio told paul supporters he shares that i views on addressing problems in the criminal justice system.

donald trump had a bit of a scare during a flight to a campaign event. trump's plane had engine trouble and had to make an emergency landing in nashville. in a few hours from now, hillary clinton and bernie sanders will square off in their first one-on-one debate. "meet the press" moderator chuck todd is also the moderator of tonight's debate on msnbc. he's in new hampshire giving us an inside look. >> reporter: it is the only one-on-one debate we have had so far in this presidential campaign season on either side of the aisle. bernie sanders, hillary clinton. and the big debate really is about style and tactics. it's less on issue and policy positions. clinton and sanders agree and have a lot of the same goals on what they want to do. the question is tactics. and you see them arguing over who is a progressive. what this really means is bernie sanders is saying, you got to have big bold ideas and you have to be willing to try to get the bold stuff actually passed and through. hillary clinton is trying desperately so say, hey, wait a

and now your storm team4 forecast. >> and we'll have rain pushing into the metro area around midnight. snow mixes in as early as 2:00 p.m. the most snow will fall in extreme parts of southern maryland and the northern neck where a dusting to three inches is possible. further west of the area we're talking about more of a rain/snow mix, but it's all about the timing. it lines up exactly with the morning rush hour and that's why this event could have a moderate impact on your day tomorrow. you can see an inch or less in other parts of southern maryland in the metro area, just a rain/snow mix, really no accumulation. another big question mark with this forecast is does the system actually push far enough west into parts of frederick, loudoun, fauquier counties? if it does, it will be cool enough you will see an inch or less there. veronica has more in ten minutes.

your friday morning rush. so here is the radar, the latest. leonardtown, calvert beach area. right now you're showers, but look at the moisture down through areas of eastern north carolina. that's the coastal storm system that will continue making its way up the coast for us early tomorrow morning. what to expect, accumulation mainly on grassy areas. most of our roads are just fine because those temperatures even right now are in the mid-40s to low 50s. there could, however, be a few isolated slick spots out there, especially any of the sheltered roads. here is a look at midnight. there is your rain showers in green. notice the pink. that's a mixture of rain and snow. the white is all snow up there. mostly what we're going to be getting around 4:00 a.m., that's your change time, is a mixture of rain and snow. good idea to download the nbc washington app right now because you can track it for the morning rush tomorrow. it's not until 7:00, 8:00 a.m. until we see this pulling out of here. which is why we're saying it will have moderate impacts. a dusting to three inches, areas of salisbury, leonardtown, montrose, down to the northern

neck. here is where the winter weather advisories have been posted. that's where most of the snow could be on grassy areas. mixture of rain and snow into the d.c. metro area. fairfax, i-95 corridor, friends up toward baltimore, around columbia, maryland, manassas, a mixture of rain and snow. that's really going to cut down even from what you see on the grassy areas, an inch around leesburg, gaithersburg, and up toward frederick. that's the map. it will be very slushy. most of the snow that will accumulate will be right down here through southern maryland and areas east. the early morning temperatures, they're low enough in the 30s and low 30s to the north and west, leesburg around gaithersburg. so, again, wintry weather for early tomorrow morning. easy out the door. what to wear? you will need the coat, the hat, the gloves, even the umbrella because of so much rain starting to mix in with the system. want to show you the windchill temperatures midday. it's going to be cold, windy. we'll be around 32 to 35 degrees and stay in the 30s all day long. we've got a lot more on improving conditions for the

confirming her positive case of the zika virus. that was confirmed to her just last week. but get this, it's believed she contracted it on a late november missions trip to guatemala. a few days after she got back, she started feeling fatigue, headaches, joint pain, even got a rash. it's been about two months and some of the symptoms, she says, have not gone away. >> the one doctor that has really walked with me through the entire day, he said diseases do not read textbooks. so diseases don't know how they're supposed to respond. so for me it may have done something very different than it did to most people. >> one of the biggest frustrations for heather is the information that's been floating around. we'll explain at 6:00 why she has decided to share her story. >> you know, this is so new, we know so little about it. has she changed her habits at all just out of caution? >> she has. she's taken extra precautions, especially with her own kids.

she's got three teenage boys. she's not letting her kids or husband eat after her. she had a nail appointment she canceled. she has joint aches and decided to have a massage and then called the masseuse and they said better you not come in. >> it's great she's being proactive in trying to protect her family but even other people she may come in contact with. >> she's trying. it's just frustrating for her. >> david culver, thank you. and as we look to the overnight hours, rain showers that are in southern maryland and the northern neck right now will begin to move westward making it into the metro area around midnight and then snow will start to mix in in spots overnight. so rain and snow showers to deal with tomorrow morning as late as 9:00 a.m., and because of that some school delays are possible. great time to download our nbc washington app so you can see the radar there. you can check it and then waking

that in a way that is firm. we're absolutely going to hold mr. johnson accountable. we're going to work this case every minute that we have available to us to make sure that justice is done. >> there was drama in court today as some of the suspect's family members testified. tracee wilkins takes us inside in 30 minutes. honda announced it's recalling 2 million more vehicles because they have air bags made by takata. >> susan hogan is here now with the important information you need to know. susan? >> thanks. this latest recall involves honda and acura vehicles because the air bag inflaters can explode and shoot shrapnel. even know honda says it has not received any sports of this particular air bag rupturing, they say the takata inflaters will be replaced with parts from an alternative supplier. repairs are expected to begin this summer.

honda's 2 million vehicles are part of a bigger recall. the takata recall expanded to 5 million more vehicles last month after investigators linked the recent death of this south carolina man, joel knight, to a defective air bag in his ford truck. i sat down with knight's family who not only expressed a tremendous amount of sadness but also anger. >> how many other people are going to die before you finally fix your problems with the automobile industry? it's just not -- >> honda's recall includes older model years but also has some newer vehicles as recently as last year and even this year. for a full list of honda and all vehicles recalled for defective takata air bags, go to our nbc washington app and search air bags. back to you. it's a plan that could have your kids up and moving during the school day. where the class curriculum is about to include a lot more exercise.

public school superintendent is expected to be named tonight at a meeting of the county board of education. since former superintendent joshua star resigned in february of 2015, the board has conducted a nationwide search for a replacement. it has been challenging, but sources say the school board is ready to name a conditional school superintendent tonight. he is jack r. smith, who is currently interim state school superintendent. >> seemed like a nice fellow. has had a lot of maryland experience, some international experience, and is now with the state. >> reporter: although it's up to the board of education to select the new school superintendent, some montgomery county council members have questions about jack smith. we'll tell what you they are ahead on news4 5:00. back to you. all right. we're learning new details now about that midair blast on a jetliner in somalia. a diplomat with knowledge of the investigation tells nbc news it's likely it was a bomb
