we have a chance of accumulating snow as we begin the first part of the week ahead it looks like it is changing a bit. we'll look at that in a few minutes. the search for survivors after a devastating earthquake in taiwan. take a look at the destruction. some buildings crumbled in the power of that 6.4 quake. others are barely standing. a newborn baby and 11 children are among those killed in the earthquake. it hit a town in southern taiwan early this morning as many were still sleeping. dozens are unaccounted for. facebook activated its saeflt check features an overnight shooting in the 100 block of ivanhoe in

>> maryland natural resource ises say a body found north of the bay bridge is a boater who fell from his sailboat on new year's eve. the state medical examiner's office confirmed his identity yesterday. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused an oily sheen on that water. crews from already rescued hundreds of ducks and geese covered in oil spotted near reagan national airport. it now stretches for eight miles on the potomac river. the u.s. coast guard have not linked the two incidents. it has not impacted the drinking water in the region.

the whole building, it felt like the whole earth shook almost. >> the 300-ton metal crane twisted and broken. the cap flipped. cars parked along the street flattened. >> we need more plans here. we have one person struck by the crane. we have one person trapped in a car. >> the trapped man was one of three injured. 38-year-old david wicks was killed, simply walking on the street during rush hour when the crane crashed down. hundreds of rescue workers rushed to the scene, as did the new york mayor calling it a miracle more weren't killed. neighbors say they worried about the crane well before this morning's winds. >> you're not surprised? >> i'm stunned but i'm not surprised. >> construction cranes are a common sight around manhattan.
