the gop candidates met one last time before tuesday's rhyme area in new hampshire. marco rubio had a tough time trying to claim his spot at the top of the ticket. on the issue of women and the draft, rubio says he believes women should be required to sign up. >> i do believe that selective service should be opened up for both men and women in case a draft is ever instituted. >> trump trustruck back on immit domain. >> without imminent domain, you don't have road, highway, school, bridges or anything. >> and lots of folks declaring chris christie the winner of last night's debate as the candidates all look ahead to tuesday's primary. and we'll talk more about all of that with "meet the press" chuck todd live in new hampshire will this morning. good morning, chuck.
10:15 am
that was a rough night for marco rubio, wouldn't you say? >> reporter: it was and you should see the headlines this morning. the boston herald sort of borrowing a page from the new york "post." they have a big front page that has rubio's picture and the word choke. rubio this morning trying to make lemonades out of lemons. he's saying i'll keep saying it again, i hope they play the clips again. trying it own the moment. but it was a tough moment and it does make you wonder, new hampshire has a history of having last minute weekend tea baits that have an impact on the tuesday voting. and i think that it's very possible we will now see i can tell you this all of the other candidates that have been chasing rubio, basically everybody not named trump, they all believe this morning that what happened to rubio will stall his momentum and will mean nothing shakes things out after new hampshire. that they will all now much to south carolina. i think there was a thought that if rubio did really well, that
10:16 am
it would start limit candidates like kasich, christie and bush. but right now they think they have a rationale to go on to south carolina which could mean it will be ten days of one of the most brutal campaigns we've seen. >> two weeks of that. get ready. so i want to talk more about chris christie because i think the consensus is that rubio did get bruised last night on stage. but did it help chris christie? >> reporter: i don't know. there is a lot of theories of the case here. christie certainly hurt rubio. does it give him support? does it give john kasich an opening? he had his best debate that i've ever seen him have. swr jeb bush had a good
10:17 am
number now no matter what. >> you mentioned trump. and i want to talk about what we didn't see. i was surs priced we didn't see trump and cruz going at it. >> reporter: this has been the sort of the conundrum of this entire campaign. donald trump has been the frontrunner for hospitals and most of the candidates won't take him on. jeb bush has done it lastly. i think part of it out of his own desperation to try to stay relevant. bush likes to brag about that. all the other candidates are afternoon trade of trade of trump. and i think there is something to that. they think they have to clear the field out and then take on trump. cruz, to me he got lost during
10:18 am
the debate. i think he has been tripped up by the allegations that he essentially stole votes from carson unfairly in iowa. he seemed to feel badly about it last night. he kept talking about it, explaining and of course in politics if you're explaining, you're losing. and then he had a bizarre closing statement where it was all about an iowa issue. he wasn't talking about new hampshire or even looking ahead to south carolina or conservative issues. so i think cruz -- will i think trump was fine. i think cruz is the one that had one of the more odder debate performances. >> and let's talk about another trend. you left here in d.c., there was a blizzard. you went to iowa, there was a blizzard. new hampshire, there is snow on the ground. just stay up there for the rest of the week and don't bring any snow back here to d.c. is that okay? >> reporter: by the way, tuesday, we're supposed on get more snow here. and i hear -- i'm coming home wednesday.
10:19 am
and you tell me -- is tom there this morning? you tell me, tom. rumor has it there is snow coming wednesday. >> yeah, you might want to use a sled if you'll be coming in from new hampshire. >> you're on the snow trail. >> reporter: if i have to come home and shovel, i'm coming to you. >> chuck, what have you for the on the show today? >> reporter: trump, krin tclint sanders. >> all right. thank you very much, chuck. and you can see "meet the press" right here after "news 4 today." he may have to do the idatirod from new hampshire to here. there should be enough snow to do some sledding. we need to freshen up the ugly piles. coming this fwep late monday into tuesday. i have the hour by hour timing

coming right up. and if you're about to do a dry run, enjoy this while you can. a brisk walk or a dry run this morning. should be good weather for that. by noontime, we should be in the low 40s and then quickly jumping to the mid and upper 40s by maybe 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon. and we'll have a bit of a chill in the air under the cloudy sky. and then super bowl party forecast, we'll be if the low 40s 6:00 to 8:00. heading back home, it will be away 40 degrees. so good travel weather. just a lot of clouds around. no rain, no snow on storm team 4 radar. there is a big coastal storm that is giving us these clouds. that will track safely south and east of us. today's not the one of concern. the one that may be giving us some snow is in the upper midwest right now. northern minnesota coming into northern michigan, northern wisconsin, that is on a track on come down our way late monday. here is new high resolution model timing on the snow arrival. this is monday 7:00 p.m., starts

to move into the panhandle of west virginia. the green area is rain. rain south and east of there. 10:00 p.m., it's in to the shenandoah valley that. and then morning commute on tuesday, that's when we'll likely to have the accumulating snow. this is as of 8:00 a.m. on tuesday, the green zone is rain. by noon, a lot of it starts for move off north and east. but maybe a few lingers snow showers early evening hours. leaving 1 to 3 inches metro area, nearby suburbs. and a little farther north, northern montgomery county, loudoun, into the northern shenandoah valley, panhandle of west virginia, that's where some of the higher amounts may be, 3 to 5 inches there. looks like a wet snow. so maybe kind of slushy. some accumulations may cause some delays. and some cancellations on tuesday morning.
10:22 am
monday before that arrives, should be in the low to mid-40s. so much of the pavement should be above freezing so when the snow officially fall, it will just be slushy on the pavement by dawn on tuesday. but then may pile up a bit on untreated surfaces and grassy areas. we'll be in the mid-30s tuesday afternoon. it all freezes up on wednesday morning. wednesday might get a few passing flurries. maybe a brief snow shower during the afternoon. in the mid-30s. then here comes the polar plunge. coldest extended period of the winter so far. looks like that will be moving in on thursday into next weekend. saturday's highs morning lows in the teens. may only make it into the mid-20s. and then coldest day of the winter so far likely a week from today, next sunday, highs maybe only in the teens. morning lows may be near zero. so enjoy it while you can. >> i don't think we're conditioned for that.
