we have breaking news. the prince george's sex abuse case is getting bigger. we just learned another victim has come forward. this is in a child porn investigation. this brings the number of victims to the total of 17. deonte carraway is accused of performing sex acts on children in a church. good morning, everyone. thank you for joining us on news4 midday. i'm barbara harrison.

>> and i'm lynn yang. this is at i-270 at montrose. we're keeping our eyes on patches of ice. >> a patch of ice is believed to be the cause of this crash in chevy chase this morning. choppers were over the scene after it happened. two cars went off the road and into the snow there. one car almost seemed to have hit that tree. no word on any injuries. lauryn, are we going to get enough of a warmup to melt the rest of the ice on that road? >> i do believe so, because temperatures will dtop out in te mid to upper 40s, above that freezing mark. last night we slipped below it, so things refroze on the roadway. i think we'll have icy spots out there once again tonight and into tomorrow morning. we're getting a little sunshine here in northwest washington, a little bit. we need to go closer to virginia

check it out, i'm on 44th street leading into georgetown. we went all over d.c. to find potholes. it wasn't hard. check out some of them that we saw on 13th street and the 2500 block there in northwest, and then we found some along 12th street in northwest. drivers, we saw them do their best to avoid them, but you can't always do that, and the consequences could hit you in the wallet. there is a aaa study that shows american drivers are paying big in pothole repair. 3 billion annually. can you imagine? nearly $15 billion spent on fixing your car. the punctured tires, the bent wheels and the more expensive suspension damage that happens to you. now, when i join you at 11:30, we're going to talk to one d.c. driver who talks about how much he spends every year fixing his car from pothole

comes out of it, so you'll want to stay with news4 for more on this developing story. >> angie, thank you. students and parents are rallying in fairfax county for more money for schools. lovette long revealed the $4 million budget proposal. it increases spending by more than 4%, it recommends a 4 cent tax increase for homeowners that would average about $300 a year. they would actually get 3% more funding, but the school superintendent says they need twice as much or language, music and sports programs could get cut. we'll have more on that in about 10 minutes. closing arguments are set to begin in the trial of a man accused of having his uncle killed. prosecutors say mayhew had someone kill his uncle to

him in that murder trial. this is the second trial in this case. it first ended in a hung jury this past july. right now a former prince george's county school board member charged with stealing is in court. lynette monday is accused of stealing free school lunches for her children. they said she reported no income at all when applying for the free lunch program. monday is accused of stealing $3,000 of lunches over a five-year period. she is now facing theft and fraud charges. you can head to the nbc app for an update on this case. a family wants answers after their terrible loss. >> it's awful, the bizarre chain of events that led to the death

be extra alert on the roads today. the snow is off the roads but the potholes are growing. you're looking at a spot on the beltway where one pothole blamed for seven flat tires yesterday. it has apparently been temporarily fixed. a lot of you are sharing a story from our website. we did all the homework on the extra days your kid has to go to class because of snow days. >> fairfax county has used all of 8 days so far. they have more days built in so don't have to make up any, at least not yet. >> d.c. schools have used about -- how many days? >> two days. >> two days and had one built in, so they're extending the calendar as are montgomery county schools which is six. prince george's county schools have used seven school days, giving them one

2017 proposal, and though it's higher than last year's, when it comes to school funding it is still less than half of what they are seeking. public hearings on the proposed budget are set for april. in fairfax, i'm erika gonzalez. back to you. developing today in fairfax county, the school board will consider changing a high school's name. over the past several months, many people have requested the board change the name of jeb stewart high school. stewart was a general in the confederate army. there was a change order on a petition last year calling for support to have the school's name changed. it got more than 34,000 signatures. the confederate-affiliated name came under fire after the charleston church shooting last year. right now harper county sheriff's deputies are saying goodbye to one of their own who was killed in the line of duty. patrick daly was killed in a shooting last

he was shot and killed last week as he approached a man inside a panera restaurant. general lawton was also killed. his funeral is set for the weekend. survivors of the terror attacks in paris are saying this concert was a difference maker. the band eagles of death metal performed last night. their performance ended when many were shot and killed in the concert hall where the band was playing. one of the survivors of the attacks said he was glad to see a new performance. >> it was a good thing to finish the story and just say, okay. >> as you can see, there was a lot of security outside the concert hall which would especially perform for the survivors. at one point the band's lead singer jumped off the stage to hug one of them. developing this morning,

judge's order that would require it to help the fbi unlock the iphone used by accused terrorist farouk. farouk and his wife killed 14 people in a mass shooting in december. the fbi needs the phone's information to put together the pieces of what happened after the shooting. apple says millions of iphones could be put at risk if it develops software to hack into that one phone. and following the mass shooting in san bernardino and the paris terror attacks there, there has been a backlash against the muslim community. montgomery county officials want to build peace here at home. tonight the muslim community center in silver spring will serve as a site for a meeting about hate violence. it was organized by the office of human rights. that meeting is scheduled for 77 7:00 this evening. taking a peek, it's going t

here at the live desk, we have new video out of res tton, virginia. the fire and rescue saved a big dog from a lake. this is on lake thorough on pine drive. the crew found angel struggling to get out of ice she fell into. you can hear the dog. after suiting up, they rescued the 60-pound pup in 10 minutes. angel was evaluated and we are happy to report she has no injuries and she has been reunited with her owners. bravo to the fairfax fire and rescue. we want to turn to lauryn ricketts with everything is above freezing and it's causing scary conditions, as we just saw. >> i do believe we could have icy spots out there again because temperatures are going to fall below that freezing mark and mostly in the 20s. i think it will

the lanes south past garrisonville road. they are holding a meeting about that plan today. if you want to weigh in, head for the ahs middle school in stafford tonight. police want to keep people behind bars. this video by police last month shows a robbery on h street at a cell phone store. two men pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money. mccloud was one of 13 robbery suspects arrested in a single week. now he's out on bond and so are at least three other suspects. the mayor's office wants to prevent that from happening again. >> the mayor knows and the numbers back this up that when there is a gap in our system, when someone repeatedly gets convicted and rearrested for a violent defense, we need to tighten the accountability around that individual. she has legislation

let's concentrate on that number. mid to upper 40s for daytime hide toes, a mix of sun and clouds out there. we'll be somewhere in the upper 40s today. it will be on the breezy side, so it will feel like upper 20s and lower 30s tomorrow. then we head to friday, we're back in the 40s. a warm front comes back tonight and saturday, and that's what's responsible for that 16-degree temperature on friday. up to 50s by sunday. it's eventually going to transfer to snow on tuesday and wednesday. that does it for news4 midday. thanks so much for joining us. we're back on this afternoon
