serious condition. earlier today, they arrested 45-year-old jason dalton of kalamazoo county. they say he went on a shooting sfreeshooting happened outside an apartment complex. within four hours, another shooting 15 miles away, a father and son shot while they looked at cars on a dealership lot. and 15 minutes later, five people include has gone 14-year-old girl were shot in the parking loth of a cracker barrel. police say they were all just going about their lives. >> engaged in everyday life, going out on eat, going to look at a new car and baby-sitting is my understanding. and they had no participation in what led to their not being with us anymore. >> police say the suspect has no known criminal history and remains

and south carolina primary for democrats is next saturday. march 1st we will see some political action in our area with super tuesday. 13 states including virginia goes to the polls. new this morning, eastbound lanes on route 50 are shut down after a deadly crash. the shutdown is in annapolis. westbound lane traffic also restricted. police say a tractor trailer was involved in this crash. police are still working there to find out what led up to the accident. coming up, a reunion decades in the making. how a woman's act of kindness is helping form a new connection with someone she never got to know. right now disaster in fiji. the south pacific nation is in a state of emergency from a massive cyclone. the new damage we're seeing as hows remain under curfew.

what are you doing outside ? where is your mother? and she says up stairs on the floor dead. >> shocking discovery of a d.c. woman paback in 1973 brings a b of closure as she's reunited with the little woman she took care of. this was more than 40 years in the making. on saturday latisha simms got to thank sylvia morris in person. morris found simms the day after her mother regina was murdered. she was just three years old. simms reached out to her after seeing an excerpt from a book about her life online. in it, she recounted the day she found the little girl wandering outside. >> just three years old, but i remember that day. that was my mom and that was the woman that too care of me. >> simms says she's grateful to be reconnected with morris to share those memories of her mom, someone she never got to know.

right now five people are reported dead after a powerful cyclone tears through fiji. the south pacific nation is still under curfew and a 30 day state of emergency. tropical cyclone winston had winds of close to 180 miles per hour. some reports indicate entire villages have been flattened, schools ordered to shut down for a week as parts of fiji are declared disaster zones. power, water communication services still out for almost 900,000 people there. it is dry out there now, but not for long. tom is tracking showers quickly moving our way. and when some gusty winds will start coming through, as well. and it's been years in the making. we'll take you inside the newest museum on the national mall for a peek at which visitors can soon loo

a n new jersey man arrested for his wife's murder on saturday at their home in camden county. witnesses told police the couple had been having marital problems and recently had an argument that involved a gun. flores now pending extradition back to new jersey. in the week ahead, liquor laws could change after a

it's already around 50 degrees. but you can also kind of smell the rain in the air. it is looking like we'll have rain moving into the metro area by early afternoon. right now on the storm team 4 radar, we're seeing that rain showing up now, areas in green and loudoun county, maybe a few sprinkles in northern montgomery county and then north of there into frederick, panhandle of west virginia and the shenandoah vall valley, too. just starting to get a few sprinkle. farther to the west is where we have some of the heavier showers coming into central west virginia and then in kentucky, as well. all of this is tracking due east can coming right into maryland and district in the afternoon and evening. new hour by hour timing, we'll have the rain moving in to the shenandoah valley, central part. that is the area you see in the yellow and orange. that stretches into west virginia. this is as of 11:00 ts

that is when those areas of some moderate showers move right into our western suburbs, down across virginia, that rain continues to track east. after 1:00. moves in to southern maryland, northern neck and crossing in to the eastern shore crossing the bay. that is by about 3:00 this afternoon. so the bulk of the heavier rains look to be south of washington, north of washington probably a half inch or less. but south of washington could pick up over an inch. so some of the creeks and streams there may come out of their banks breeiefly by early this evening. and they said on out toward athc ocean. we have a watch floor watch out all the areas in green including washington metro area, arlington, fairfax, all these counties in virginia into west virginia for some high water that will be developing from this rain already falling on saturated ground.

briefly out of their banks. what to wear today, you'll need a coat for the rest of the morning an even some sunglasses. overcats catcast is quite brig. but may need umbrella and rain boots as we could have ponding of water by late afternoon. right now it's in the low and mid-50s shenandoah valley. closer to washington, right around 50. northern neck, eastern shore, some spots already mid and upper 50s. so if you want to get in a run or bike ride, do it between now and 1:00. after that the showers come on through. we'll drop to low 50s by sunset. and then overnight tonight, we'll be hovering in the low 50s. and then after midnight, it will drop back down into the low 40s by dawn monday. back to work and school tomorrow. on tuesday, clouds close in, 30s in the morning. afternoon highs right around 50. might get a passing shower on tuesday afternoon. it's a small chance. but a likelihood of rain on

not saying who, but somebody up here can relate to this next story. being stuck on a ski lift with nowhere to go but down. happened to about 100 people at the timberline resort in west virginia. yesterday morning the lift malfunctioned causing the cables to drop. two people were taken to the hospital, but they are expected to be okay. took about two hours for resort staff to actually evacuate all the skiers. >> no idea who you're talking about. well, protests set as to start popping you around the country this support of apple's ongoing battle with the fbi. the protest organized by the internet rights group fight for the future are scheduled to happen tuesday outside of apple stores in more than 20 states. the gatherings will come a week after the fbi went to court to force apple to weakhe

in order on help a terrorism organization into the san bernardino california shootings. a busy shopping day came to a halt at the spotsylvania towne centre. the area was evacuated after a bomb threat. the evacuation caused huge traffic backups on route 3 and even on 95. investigators didn't find anything suspicious. they say there are no credible threats. the mall reopened around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. in decision 2016, governor john kasich will host a town hall at george mason university in fairfax. the up to hall will be monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00. on march 1, virginians will head to the polls to vote in the president 14ial primary. tomorrow metro officials will hold a public hearing to talk about the budget and new proposals including a discounted student pass for participating universities they will also talk about a free buss

. right now a son is in jail accused of killing his own father. police say that the 22-year-old man stabbed his 44-year-old father to death early saturday morning in annapolis. ramirez was arrested and charged with murder. police have not released a motive for the killing. now to a developing story in new mexico, a family calling for justice after they claim u.s. marshals fatally shot their loved one by mistake. the marshals were carrying out an arrest warrant when they shot and killed 23-year-old edgar alvarado on saturday. his family says he was outside his trailer fixing his truck around 4:00 in the morning when it happened. alvarado's family says after hours of waiting, authors

fairfax county woman plans to appeal the judge's decision over a policy that protects transgender students. a circuit court judge dismissed the lawsuit. the policy bans discrimination. traditional values coalition head filed the suit saying it makes it too easy for girls to use the boysest room and vice vary a. a gas explosion badly damaged a home in woodbridge two weeks ago and since then washington gas has found at least seven more leaks in the area.

metro train operators are running red lights with 200-ton trains full of passengers. human errors are a serious safety problem. the "washington post" reports there have been 47 red signal violations since 2012 and just this month an operator ran a red light and came within 200 feet of hitting another train. metro officials say that they have hired a neuroscientist and outside safety expert to find out why operators aren't stopping on red. more bad news for the trance either agency

stranger to speak. >> what was your reaction? >> i was shocked. no one had ever asked knee speak at a funeral. >> reporter: sylvia didn't know antoine, but the psychotherapist knew how depression and domestic abuse was hurt beiing the commu. >> i wanted them to understand that domestic violence looked like them. >> how did they respond? >> as i was speaking, i saw individuals who were nodding their heads. >> an ugly truth that for some was uncomfortable to hear. >> you cannot -- we cannot, we cannot be quiet. >> reporter: the mother of a murderer. who wants others to speak her name in tonya's name and that of anyone else who has lost like this. >> this is not about me. this is about somebody else. and somebody else. that's what is important to me. >> she's since

brought you about metro. >> let's get to derrick ward live in bethesda. >> reporter: we're here at the bethesda metro station. as you can see it appears things pretty much returned to normal now. earlier this morning, this was the scene at friendshipa an arcing insulate tore caused some smoke. they briefly septembnt up a bus bridge to get people around it. and we believe there was also track work going on already and that smoke had them shut down the open track that they were single tracking through. there appears to be no damage, no reports of injuries or anything like that, just that disruption of service because of smoke and of course metro errs on the side of caution. their safety records are always under scrutiny, so
