that's why we have the emergency response team. >> the sheriff shot a man driving a truck and then shot someone else in the leg. he came to the industry plant where he worked, shot someone else in the parking lot. the shooter had an assault rifle and a pistol on him. when officers arrived, they got into a shootout with the man and killed him. >> four other people i know got shot and it's horrible. >> and all of these people were just running in our yard. and then i just hear gunshots. then i told the kids, stay inside, stay away from the windows. >> investigators say the person in the home who won't let them in is a man who they think is the shooter's roommate. >> now, to a local woman's frightening ride on the ride share service lyft.

stop. >> that's when she took out her cell phone and started recording. he also managed to track down the driver. shomari? >> the door is open. he won't stop. this lyft driver does not want to take me home. >> reporter: take a look at this cell phone video. desiree is in the backseat of a lyft driver. >> he's taking me somewhere else. >> reporter: her journey begins when a driver picks her up around 9:45 last night. he refuses to take her friend home. frustrated, that friend gets out and decides to walk. taylor stay ins the car, asks the driver to take her home and shares her displeasure. >> i was telling him what he did was unprofessional. that he should have taken my friend home. we have done this plenty of times before.

past. >> he pulls over, tells her to get out. >> he indicated that he should have taken me to my house. >> he doesn't answer. continues to drive. >> this door is still open. i'm trying to get out and he won't stop. >> reporter: she gets out, walks home and files a complaint with lyft. the spokesperson tells me, "we are extremely troubled to learn about this incident. we have a strict zero tolerance policy and any behavior threatening safety is not tolerated. the driver's conduct is absolutely unacceptable. >> i'm shomari from nbc news 4. the camera is on, by the way. why not just stop the car and let her out? >> because she had the door open near parked cars. i pulled to a safe location. >> are you going to use lyft again? >> absolutely not.

expect with just four days left now before the pivotal super-tuesday vote. jay grey, nbc news, houston. >> back close to home. more than a hundred people gathered tonight in alexanderia. he was murdered inside his apartment two days ago and police still don't have any suspects. news 4's megan fitggerald spoke to the teacher's friends tonight: >> reality still hasn't set in. they can't believe that their friend is gone and they're struggling with the fact that he was murdered. >> this is not how anyone here thought they'd be spending their night.

>> a night remembering the life of 35-year-old. those who in knew him well say he was an amazing athlete, but an even better friend. >> he's done a lot of things for a lot of people. but on tuesday afternoon, police got a call for an unresponsive person on seminary road. when they arrived, they found him shot to death inside. days later, investigators are still trying to figure out who killed him. >> grieving friends and family try to understand why. >> i hope whoever did it, turn yourself in. give us some piece. >> piece and justice for a man who touched so many. >> this is difficult. this is not easy.

>> now, police say they've reviewed surveillance video. they've conducted several interviews with na interviews with neighbors inside that apartment building. back to you. >> megan, thank you. new tonight, we know the name of a man shot and killed in broad daylight yesterday in d.c. police tell us he ran down the street and collapsed outside a chinese takeout after getting shot in the 3100 block of martin luther king avenue. he later died at the hospital. still no word on a motive or possible suspect. >> more police officers and now private security are coming to metro. riders should start to notice them. the transit agency will start to assign more officers on train, buss and platforms.

shooting on the green line and a violent attack on the red line. the suspects in the red line incident have been banned from riding the rails. met row says it will continue to ban riders who mismaif. >> a thief who was caught because of the find my iphone app will spend nearly two decades mind bars. sentenced to 18 years in prison for an armed carjacking and robbery spree. prosecutors believe he committed at least a dozen crimes in d.c. and montgomery county. he stole an iphone from a woman and police used the app to track him down and arrest him. he pleaded guilty last november. >> the death toll is now up to five in virginia from yesterday's storms and tornadoes. rescue crews found a woman's body tonight. she was driving during the storms last night when her car was swept off of a bridge.

there are early reports of up to 23 tornadoes. the nationalwet ere service has confirmed at least six tornadoes in the commonwealth. >> thank goodness, at least the worst part of that storm system is now out of here. what we're getting behind is the winds coming down from the northwest. over 30 miles per hour, that's bringing our windchills into a low 20. waking up tomorrow morning, you will see windchills down into the low 20s and even the teens. i'll show you what to expected for friday and your weekend. we're about to take another big turn. >> also, tonight, a debate over what to name an elementary school. >> it wasn't that simple for two local women who say their servers changed receipts.

right now in prince william county, there's still a long line on people waiting to weigh in on what to call a new elementary school. 23 international airports are being considered. they include a local firefighter who died back in 2007, kyle wilson. tonight is the last time the committee will meet before making a recommendation to the school board for a vote next week. >> going out to eat recently cost some local customers more

they checked their bank statements and found all the trouble had to do with the tip. consumer reporter susan hogan explains. >> you get your check, leave a tip, sign your name and off you go. however, we've heard from a number of people who all claim the tiptoal was changed after they paid their bill. >> and i think people should know. >> it happened to her at this benigan's. >> we were completely taken back. jenny murphy said it happened to her and two other couples. >> they gave us absolutely no explanation. >> a night out for dinner with friends at two different restaurants served up a very similar situation. >> we had seen that we were overcharged by $10. i checked my credit card statement or my debit card statement and it had been closed out to $99.99. >> ruth was charged almost $60 more than what her bill came to.

restaurant. 21 great american bistro e-mailed copies of the bill to jenny and her friends. >> immediately, we saw that the gratuity amount, as well as the total amount was modified. >> when you say modify snd. >> it was changed. the numbers were changed. they had added an additional $10 to each of them. >> not only can you see the tip amounts were changed, jenny says her reseeceipts showed somethin much worse. >> i looked at our credit card slip which had been completely rewritten and signed by somebody else, and not my husband. >> jenny filled out a police report with the city of fair fax police department which is now investigating. >> i'm still missing $60. i didn't quite budget for $60 to be missing. >> benigan's did refund her the overcharge.

we contacted both restaurants. the manager tells us the server has made a typo error. the manager at 21 great american bistro vehemently denies his employee modified the tip and even suggested that the customers changed the tip amount. in the end, the manager did offer to refund $10 to each couple. >> it's really not about the money. i was just so appalled myself that they would question our integrity that i wanted to get this story out there to prevent this from happening to anybody else. >> bottom line, next time you go out to eat, make sure you have signed up for alerts to get immediate notice of a charge. you'll receive it even before leaving the restaurant. and always check your credit card statements.
