desk, it's another rejection on the merger of pepco and exelon, that decision just came toup t . this was supposed to be a final regulatory hurdle for the merger deal that would create the largest electric utility. the "washington post" reporting the deal fell apart after regulators said there was no evidence after pepco said if coopera kooch couldn't perform adequately. they are considering a motion to revise the merger. p it looks as though the provisions laid out in the revision will allow the deal to actually happen. you meet remember the pfc rejected the deal once before. the mayor stepped in, negotiated a big settlement, $78 million. it was supposed to benefit the community. now here again today, we hear about a rejection and more revisions on the way. keep an eye on the nbc washington app, tom sherwood on twitter as well to see how this all pans

we're learning what may have caused a man to kill his co-workers. cedric ford shot more than a dozen yesterday and killed three of them p. this morning police said they served ford a protection from abuse order about an hour and a half before the shooting. they think that may have upset him and triggered at attack. police shot and killed ford about ten of the shooting victims are in critical condition right now. flags are flying at half-staff in kansas today. a woman and child are recovering after being hit by a vehicle this morning in little falls place and lee highway. the woman and child are not badly hurt and we're working to find out what led to the crash. well, it is a windy day out there to say the rooes. p temperatures rising to r

virginia. the national weather service has confirmed at least six portornas in virginia. just into the live desk, a final sentence for form er d.c. cop. a federal judge signing off on a plea deal for darrell best, the sentence 18 years in prison. best was both a d.c. police officer and a church pastor when he assaulted a 17-year-old girl in 2014 and a 16-year-old girl in 2015. these incidents happened at his church and d.c. police headquarters. best pled guilty to two sex abuse charges and a child porn charge. as we understand it, he has been in jail since he was arrested last year and he will have to of course register as a sex offender. mark segraves will cover this story for us. the changing temperatures around here are making pothole as problem. take a look at this monster on an exit ramp off the beltway in

this morning we are learning new details about the gunman in that mass shooting in kansas. police say cedric ford went on a rampage killing three people and wounding more than a dozen others before a police officer was able to take him down. sarah plake has the latest from newton, kansas. >> reporter: workers inside a rural kansas plant described chaotic scene. >> everybody was running, people were screaming, crying. we didn't know what to do. >> all of a sudden pop, pop, pop sglchlgts and i started running, too. >> reporter: when it was over, four people were killed including the gunman. 14 others wounded. five critically. witnesses say the suspect cedric larry ford who was an employee of the plant was armed with an assault style weapon and handgun. ford also shot and wounded three people he encountered on the way

and we'll have slots of sunshine. so if you want to go kayaking or hiking, temperatures for saturday will warm up again into the mid to upper 40s. so looking good. but dress in layers. you might not need the layers by the time we get into sunday. temperatures right around 6 0 degrees. a little bit of a breeze on monday as a cold front pass through the area. could have a few sprinkles out of that system, but that is all we're looking for. otherwise we get into tuesday, temperatures will be right around 6 0 degrees. and then wednesday, another cold front coming through. that's when we'll have our best chance of rain and p temperatures drop after that unfortunately, we'll be in the 40s. possibly the 30s end of next week and into the next weekend. so concentrate on this weekend. >> our eyes are mfeks feks eigh the mild emanuel. that's it for us. we're back this afternoon at 4:00. >> you can get
