we are working two big breaking news stories tonight. we just learned one of the three police officers shot after a domestic incident has died. three people killed in a crash in bethesda. we begin tonight with the deadly shooting in woodbridge. chopper 4 was over the scene earlier this evening, and officers responding to a domestic situation. officer the shooting officers were found here. we are working to find out how the other officers are doing tonight. a neighbor shot some cell phone video and sent it here to news4. the witness said she

officer say the suspect had hostages. darcy spencer is on the scene. and we start at the live desk. we sent you a news alert about the shooting. right now an officer dead and a suspect in custody. shots were fired on the 1300 block of lashmere. >> reporter: this is a tragic day for the police department. three officers shot in the line of duty, and one of those officers has, in fact, died. that officer has been identified as ashley

you cannot see the house where the shooting happened because the van is blocking it, but police are very active on the scene continuing with the investigation. officers were called here for a domestic-related shooting this afternoon. those three officers were shot and wounded by the suspect. the suspect at some point, i am told, surrendered to police and taken into custody. the alleged shooter lived with his wife and children, and again, no official word of who was the victim in the domestic incident. neighbors told us they heard rapid gunfire around 5:00 in the afternoon, and the kids in the neighborhood playing had to run for cover amid the chaos here. let's hear from neighbors that live here. >> i did not know officers were hurt until i looked down the street and i saw a

police in fairfax county crediting social media for them quickly arresting a sex assault suspect. a woman was raped in her own home on friday, and last night police saw a suspicious vehicle in the mt. vernon area and found the man you just saw inside and they arrested him for the rape. >> my neighbor next to me was thinking about moving out because she also has kids, and we didn't hear anything from the apartment managers, but now that he is arrested we feel a little more relieved. >> martinez is charged with burglary and rape and providing false identification to the police. the victim is out of the hospital. keep an eye out for this missing teen. she is from rockville and

>> reporter: i was able to speak to a spokesperson for the police department. it's a tough for them right now. with this young officer dying in the line of duty, we announced her name a little earlier in the program, officer ashley guindon, and police are now confirming that she was just sworn in yesterday and today was, in fact, her first day on the job here with the prince william county police department. just an unimaginable situation for officers to deal with an in-the-line-of-duty death and her first day on the job. it's something that is just hard to believe. two additional officers were shot and wounded and remain at the hospital. we do not know their condition at this point. i tried to get a little more information about officer ashley guindon. police are telling me that apparently she is not from this area and doe

notifying family, but it's just a very difficult time for this police department, number one, to lose an officer in the line of duty, but somebody so young and, in fact, the first day on the job. we are going to show you where police are continuing this investigation on lashmere court in woodbridge. police are here on both sides of the street and they are continuing this investigation, taking measurements. they say it's going to continue for some period of time. again, that young officer confirmed, she was shot and killed in the line of duty today, her very first day on the job. erica, back to you. >> thank you so much for that, it's very hard news. the race for the white house and a big night for hillary
