right off the top tonight, ted cruz grabbing another primary win. nbc news projecting that cruz will win the kansas caucuses while front-runner donald trump came in second place. primaries are also being held today in kentucky, louisiana, maine, and nebraska. we're standing by for those results and we'll have more on all of these contests in just a few minutes. developing right now, the search is on for a missing man who sexually assaulted a woman while she slept. the attack was early this morning near the university of maryland's campus. news 4's darcy spencer is live in college park with details on a possiblepe

darcy? >> reporter: well, megan, we are just blocks away from the university of maryland campus but police are telling me that the victim is not a university of maryland student. let's show you where we are. we're here on fordham lane and this woman was attacked inside one of these apartment buildings here early this morning. we want to show you some video that we shot just this afternoon, prince georges county police detectives going door to door in this neighborhood, they are asking did anyone see anyone suspicious in the neighborhood early this morning because this sexual assault suspect remains at large. the victim was asleep in her own bed in her own apartment here 5:30 this morning when she awoke to this man sexually assaulting her. he was able to get away. the neighbors tell me this has shaken their sense of security. >> scary and, well, you feel

unsafe. we'd like the police to be around here more. >> it's great to live here. but when things like this happen it -- we put up barriers and we put up walls, we're more cautious now. >> reporter: the university of maryland did send out an alert about this incident. even though it didn't happen on campus, it was near campus. that alert said this person was able to get in through an unlocked door to the building as well as to the apartment. police are telling people, reminding them to make their doors and windows are secure. we don't have a good description of the suspect and he remains at large. we are live in college park, darcy spencer. news 4. >> darcy, thank you. we're following breaking news right now. hundreds of delegates up for grabs as voters in five states hit the polls on super saturday. donald trump and hillary clinton poised to continue their momentum. and today's contests are the first races since mitt romney and

urged voters to reject trump. nbc news's chris pollone has a closer look at whether voters are listening. >> reporter: on the first saturday in march, voters are going to the polls in louisiana, kansas, kentucky, maine and nebraska. for republicans, it's the first chance to gauge the mitt romney effect, whether the former nominee's broadside against donald trump convinces voters to abandon the party's front-runner. in kansas trump fired back. >> they made a tremendous mistake when they chose mitt romney, he was a disaster as a candidate, no energy, no life, no nothing, he was a stiff. >> reporter: florida senator marco rubio criticized donald trump for skipping an annual gathering with conservatives in washington, implying trump isn't one. >> this is the american conservative union. it's usually reserved for conservatives. >> reporter: ohio john kasich still refuses to engage in the gop's war of insults. >>

open your nbc washington app. here is the latest on radar. i'm tracking rain and snow showers to our west. this system moves through the area overnight tonight into the early morning hours tomorrow. having a pretty low impact on the region. if you are going to be out and about late tonight, early tomorrow morning be cautious, there's the potential for slick spots north and west of town. i want to show you the timing with future weather. 8:00 still back around the i-81 corridor. notice at 10:00 p.m. it starts moving to loudon, potentially frederick counties. it moves into the metro area around midnight. 2:00 a.m. notice snow showers to the north, rain in washington and areas to the south. by 7:00 a.m. most of this activity is out of here. the majority of your sunday is dry. it will be chilly, though, tomorrow. a touch warmer than today. more on temperatures and a big warmup is in the forecast for the work week. more on that in 10 minutes. >> thank you,

officially back in d.c. politics. gray kipped off his campaign for the ward seven council seat. derek ward talks to gray and the woman he's challenging. >> reporter: former d.c. mayor vincent gray made it official and stepped back into the crucible of city politics. >> i've always been a public servant and i love doing things for and with people. obviously i wanted to continue doing it previously. >> reporter: after losing to current d.c. mayor muriel bowser, he could have sought a city wide seat. >> when you run at large you don't have a constituency. here you have a real constituency. >> reporter: kicking off his campaign at the ward's eastern border, he touched on the allegations of a so-called shadow campaign and the investigation into financial malfeasance during his mayoral bid. he acknowledged it was not the kind of campaign he intended to

there was a big push to increase the amount of affordable housing in the district. the coalition for nonprofit housing and economic development organized an event today. the group wants more than a hundred million dollars to be put into a trust fund to help homeless people secure affordable housing. the mayor says she believes that can happen in the next budget. she reiterated her support for housing subsidies. >>

government that can tell you they can reverse housing prices but what we can do is make sure that the city is involved there supporting subsidized units and preserving housing and ending homelessness. that's what our focus is. >> advocates say strengthening rent control and expanding rent supplements programs is critical to reducing homelessness across the district. in fairfax county, three animal attacks in less than a week. we're learning the raccoon tested positive for rabies. on thursday, a man named clifton was bit after he fought off and killed a raccoon in hiss home. he took it to animal control where it was tested and tested positive for rabies. the day before, foxes attacked two women in great falls. all three people were treated for exposure to the virus. ahate to say it, folks, bt we could get scattered rain and, yes, snow showers tonight, b

court. a federal appeals court will reconsider the legality of assault weapon bans. that's according to the "washington post." now the court will rehear a case involving the state's 2013 ban. it was passed after the newtown school shooting. the law bans the possession and the sale of 45 types of assault weapons. fallen prince william county plaintiff ashley guindon will be buried in her hometown of west springfield, massachusetts, on monday. meanwhile a fund-raiser is being held in manassas for the two other officers after last week's shooting the. manassas police association is organizing the event at the old town sports club. they're raising money for officers david mckeon and jesse hempen and showing appreciation for all first responders. >> we just wanted to put something together for first

reagan airport. hughes agreed to plead -- to a plea deal in november. he'll be sentenced in april. prosecutors are asking for ten months in prison. they say hughes could have killed countless people if he collided with the jet. imagine getting a warning about a tornado weeks in advance. well, researchers say it's possible and they're getting closeer to making that happen. an illinois meteorology professor found a link between tornadic activity in the u.s. and complicated atmospheric wave patterns. he used the link to predict tornado activity. the system could help forecasters predict the likelihood of a twister two or even three weeks in advance. pretty interesting study there. here are your weather headlines. as we move into the evening, especially the overnight hours we'll track scattered rain and
