a suspect suicide by police mission ends with the family of a prince george's county officer planning a funeral and the suspects alive. fellow officers stood by the parents of officer jacai colson as the police chief detailed the events that led to their son's death. colson tied after being accidentally shot by another officer in a sootout with suspect michael ford on sunday. ford's brothers recorded the shooting as it was unfolding. >> that image is of one of the ford brothers standing by taking no action on a video recording device taping this, his brother, shooting at prince george's county police officers. >> michael ford was also shot during the incident and is still in the hospital. he and his two brothers are charged with 21 counts including second-degree murder. this morning we're learning what officer colson meant to his loved ones.

medstar washington at the time of her death. we're getting new details this morning into what convicted murderer jesse matthews was doing when he went on the run. unsealed federal court documents reveal matthews' aunt told him to talk to detectives so they could find hannah graham. she was the student who disappeared in 2014. but matthews fled to texas. police traced a phone call he made to his father and he was eventually spotted by someone who saw his picture on it tv. matthews is in prison for life for killing graham, morgan harg top and trying to kill a fairfax woman. let's turn our attention to decision 2016. it's a make or break day. voters in five states head to the polls this morning. missouri, illinois, ohio, north carolina and florida. for the first time this primary season, second place won't matter in two of them. whoever gets the majority of

delegates. winner take all. florida voters control 99 gop delegates, the most of the republican contests today. the most recent polls put senator marco rubio in a distant second place to donald trump. if rubio loses in his home state, we could see the end of his campaign. similar stakes for ohio. john kasich is leading trump in the buckeye state, but not by a lot. we'll have live updating results of all the primaries in our nbc washington app. and turning to the democrats, both hillary clinton and bernie sanders attacked donald trump. sanders said trump was nothing less than encouraging his supporters to beat people up while clinton called trump's actions offensive and dangerous. she said every politician deals with protesters and trumpg's response to this week chbd's violence comes short of

an impact than all 13 super tuesday states. people in five states goes to the polls this morning. ohio and florida are the first winner take all primaries of this election season meaning the winning candidate takes all of the state's delegates. among the democrats, hillary clinton leads senator bernie sanders 1194 to 569. hits need nearly 24 delegates to qualify for the nomination. to the republicans, donald trump has 456 delegates, ted cruz with 363. and then there is marco rubio with 153 and governor john kasich with 54. gop candidates need more than 1200 delegates to qualify for their party's nomination. tracie potts is live on capitol hill. governor kasich and senator rubio are trailing right now. even if they win their home

states, can they remain competitive? >> reporter: they can make it harder for donald trump to get the nomination. that's probably the easiest way to look at it. take a look at the numbers. these are the delegates that are at stake. today florida and ohio as you noted winner take all, the big prizes for the republicans. but then total north carolina, illinois, missouri, they have more delegates than florida and ohio combined. that's why today is so important. for donald trump, ted cruz, marco rubio and john case i gka. yes, rubio and kasich have to win their home states to remain competitive. probably won't get them much closer to the nomination, but it could slow down donald trump. if it's a good day for cruz, he certainly gets much closer to donald trump. he's not that far from donald trump in terms of the delegate count. >> and focusing on the democrats now, will today change anything for hillary clinton and bernie sanders? >> reporter: it certainly could. most of the more than 1100
