are all gone? news4 midday starts right now. a manhunt stepped up security and travel warnings all happening alongside a city in me mo moriam. crowds are gathering to honor the people who were killed and hurt in the brussels terror attacks. we're learning more about the bombings this morning and a manhunt for a suspect police say is on the run right now. for several hours, it wasn't clear whether najim laachraoui is in custody. he's not only responsible for the brussels attacks but the paris attacks as well. another person was arrested in a raid today. police said they found bomb-making supplies with more than 30 pounds of explosives along with an american flag.

but they lived in brussels for two years. they were at the airport saying goodbye to stephanie's mom, who was getting on a flight. we are told she made it back safely. nobody has heard from them. at 11:15 we're live from the embassy of belgium here in washington where the president arrived to pay his respects just a short time ago. as they continue the manhunt for the people responsible for these terror attacks, we'll tell you any breaking news in that investigation. now to a developing story back in our area, right now police are on the scene of a homicide investigation in prince georges county. officers found a man's body in a townhome community early this morning. we're going to get right to news4's molette green who is live on the scene in district heights. molette, what can you tell us? >> reporter: barbara, good morning. this investigation is sti

still on the scene here outside surrounded by evidence markers. it all started with a 911 call for an unresponsive man, and it turned into this murder scene here in the crown meadows townhome community. neighbors say it's an unusual scene in this townhouse community, a homicide investigation blocking part of the street along hillmar drive in district heights. >> i see all this, and hey, i just don't know. >> reporter: prince georges police say a 911 call came in about 9:30 this morning for help. >> when we arrived we found a male victim suffering from trauma. he was pronounced dead at the scene. >> reporter: police found the body outside and placed a number of evidence markers along the sidewalk. officers spent a lot of time poring over this black suv. not what neighbors want to see. >> nothing like this happens over here. t

this morning cruz picked up an endorsement from former president george bush. >> nominating donald trump would be a disaster and it would elect hillary clinton. the delegate count 468 to 744. republican hopefuls need 1,237 delegates to qualify for the gop nominati nomination. we are monitoring the supreme court, an interesting case on access to birth control and the affordable care act. protesters right now are rallying outside the court. justices are hearing arguments now. several religious non-profits are challenging the obamacare provision that requires employers to include contraceptive coverage in their health plans. without justice scalia, this could be a tie. the rulings by the lower courts would hold, but they were split. that would mean women who worked for the

in brussels right now, hundreds of people are recovering from bombings at the airport and on a subway train, an isis terror attack. some of them are in critical condition, some in medical comas, and some are americans. ll, 34 people were killed in the attacks. we are hearing from the witnesses this

including one who was in the subway on a train. >> it took a while for things to register. every now and then, metro will stop because of time problems, metro is a little slow, so at first i thought it was a regular occurrence. the air blast i felt was nothing more than you would feel with a breeze coming through a window or a fan. >> a few minutes later and he could have been on the train that was bombed instead of feeling the blast in the tunnel. we'll have more from witnesses coming up later this hour. meanwhile here in washington, metro has ramped up security after the deadly terror attacks in brussels yesterday. one of the bombs struck a metro station, you'll remember. you can expect to see more security on the rise to and from work in our area today. airline passengers will see it, too. nbc's pete williams has the latest. >> reporter: on commuter trains and subway systems from washington to los angeles, police are out in a highly si

beefed up security, too, in miami, chicago and atlanta, with heavily armed foot patrols. more security, too, at many of the nation's airports, specially in the outer lobbies where the airline tickets are. specialized units and bomb-sniffing dogs, more plainclothes officers, too, and extra searches of bags. >> we want people to feel confident that we're here, we're able to respond. we have enormous capability if we need it tactically. >> and police with randomly screening luggage before you board the train. officers are surging into town square. the mayor made a point to ride the subway to demonstrate its safety. >> expect to see extraordinary nypd presence out over the coming days as a sign of our readiness to protect people at all times. >> reporter: new york police say protecting mass transit there is a big chore.

the american bird conservency needs your help on who may have killed 13 bald eagles last month. they were found dead on the highway. they don't rule out disease as cause of death. bald eagles are protected under state and federal law. the conservency is offering a $5,000 reward for someone's conviction. four were found dead last week. no word on whether the two incidents were connected. the timing of rain a little tricky. here's what i'm thinking with future weather. friday we're dry, some clouds in place. it looks like the best chance of rain is ear

right now brussels, belgium is picking up the pieces from yesterday's deadly terror attacks. suicide bombers killed, dozens of people in a subway station and the brussels airport. the airport now says that it will be closed for at least

clear when exactly it will reopen. and it's a major international hub for travelers, specially over easter weekend. some brussels subway stations are back open and schools are running, but all with extra security. in belgium and around the world, they're honoring the people who died. there is a big memorial at the belgium stock exchange right now. in many countries flags are flying at half staff and world's landmarks are lighting up in the colors of the belgium flag. here in d.c., vice president joe biden made a visit to the belgium embassy this morning. meagan fitzgerald is live at that embassy this morning. >> reporter: vice president joe biden made it to the embassy this morning and he was accompanied by his wife, jill biden. we were rolling as they were escorted with their motorcade, and when t g

were welcomed by the embassy ambassador johan yobeca. he signed a book of condolences. he stayed inside for about 15 minutes before they left, but the ambassador says he's been speaking with everyone in the area here, other ambassadors, as well as secretary of homeland security, jeh johnson. we had an opportunity to speak earlier with the ambassador who said he just got off a phone call with officials from belgium telling him about the ongoing investigation, trying to get the latest details about what's happening. he says right now the community there is holding strong, they're bonding together. you'll see those vigils out in the streets, people trying to show and send a strong message to terrorists that they will not change their way of life. the ambassador did tell us investigators are going door to door. they're going to homes they think are suspicious

be investigated. they're also interrogating people, he says, trying to get to the bottom of this attack and get more information, more info about possible attacks that might be to come. of course, he says, it's still a very fluid investigation and ongoing, but he gets regular updates. we've been in communication with him. as soon as we get more information, first we'll share it on our social media pages and our nbc washington app. back to you. missionary is lucky to be alive after one of the airport bombs went off within feet of where he was standing. 19-year-old mason wells has shrapnel in his legs, severe burns and a torn achilles tendon, but is expected to make a full recovery. he was at the airport with a fellow missionary when the bomb was detonated. his parents say it's a miracle their son is alive. >> having gone through the attack, he was very close to the bomb, he said, when it exploded. it's a miracle he made it through

them out, the weather is supposed to be spectacular on this peak bloom day. of course, the cherry blossoms mean crowds and tourists here in the district. destination d.c. tells us that during last year's national cherry blossom festival, more hotel rooms were booked than the year before. hotels saw about an 88% occupancy rate. anything over 80% is considered to be pretty good. prices for those rooms were also up. many tourists spent on average $243 a night to be able to be here, have a room to enjoy the cherry blossoms and all the fun activities that come with the festival. >> if anybody guessed it right, it's incredible to have the festival open on saturday when the blossoms are at their peak -- >> it's
