in town, delegates from 36 countries and international groups. barbara? >> thank, melissa. as we said, this is probably going to affect your commute or anybody trying to get around down in that area. you can find the list of all the closures and some detours that you can use on the nbc washington app. thank you, barbara. a developing story this morning. police are investigating a shooting in southeast washington. we are working to find out more. what we do know is that police were called to the area of good hope road and alabama avenue around 5:00 this morning. we brought that to you at the live desk this morning on "news4 toda today". that's where they found a man with a gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital. right now there is no word on a suspect or even a motive in this case. and a person is in jail right now after leading fairfax county police on a pursuit this morning. this happened around 6:00 in the morning on chain bridge road. you've got chopper 4 over the scene there this morning. police tell us officers tried to pull a car

refused to stop. police say they followed the car along route 29 until they were able to make the driver stop. we're working to find out the reason for the initial traffic stop and why the driver didn't want to stop. a man is accused of trying to kidnap a 6-year-old girl from her front yard in wheaton. police say 20-year-old kabir salami grabbed the girl while she was playing in the yard on monterrey drive. this happened on tuesday. her mom managed to get between salami and the front gauge. the girl broke free and salami ran off. police say he came back a few minutes later, though. officers eventually arrested him on viers mill road. he's charged with kidnapping and assault and is being held without bond. the latest now in decision 2016. there could be some impending ballot trouble for bernie sanders. the democratic presidential candidate could have issues getting on to d.c.'s june primary ballot. news4's tom sherwood broke this story on twitter wednesday.

democratic party missed a deadline to notify the board of elections that sanders and hillary clinton had paid their registration fees. well, now a democratic voter in the district has filed a challenge to keep sanders off the ballot. the rules require a hearing on that challenge. an emergency d.c. council vote may be able to resolve the issue before the primary on june 14th. donald trump has created yet another firestorm on the campaign trail. the gop front-runner told msnbc's chris matthews that if abortion was banned, a woman getting the procedure should be punished. >> the answer is that there has to be some form of punishment. >> for the woman? >> yeah, there has to be some form. >> that comment was widely denounced by democrats and republicans. just hours after his remarks, trump made an about-face

today the family of montgomery county officer noah liotta will tell lawmakers to pass the strongest version of noah's law. the law expands the use of ignition interlock devices for convicted drunk drivers. it was named after liotta, who was killed by asp

driver back in december. both the maryland senate and house have passed different versions of this bill. now they need to work out their differences before a final vote can be taken. a new lawsuit has been filed against a school aide accused of sexually abusing children in prince george's county. de'onte carway is a former school volunteer and choir director. as the suit claims, he took one of his choir members behind a stage and forced the young girl to engage in a sexual act with another student. the suit alleged that caroway recorded it on his cell phone and threatened to kill her if she told anybody. he's facing 13 federal charges of exploiting up to 11 children, and he also faces state child sex abuse charges. we are learning that students in loudoun county rode a school bus with explosive training material on board. a worker found the material yesterday. a federal agency used the bus in an exercise at briarwood's high school. on monday and tuesday, the bus was also

rockridge high, buffalo trail elementary and pine brook elementary. the school district is trying to contact parents but say the material is benign and the students were in no danger. developing this morning, we are learning more about a local woman who was pregnant and infected with the zika virus. her case may now help researchers, though, understand more about this virus. these ultrasound images show the effects zika had on the fetus. doctors at children's national medical center in d.c. say a 33-year-old woman caught the mosquito-transmitted virus after traveling to mexico and central america. she was 11 weeks pregnant at the time, but they say early ultrasounds didn't show any tell tale signs of birth defects. >> it was clear that there was significant impairment of development in some of the major structures of the brain and evidence of injury. >> but at

it's pretty much shut down. another stabbing at a metro station. metro transit police say a "washington post" vendor stabbed a man at the addison road metro after they got into some kind of fight just a couple of hours ago. the man is in serious condition and police are looking for the vendor right now. police are investigating a shooting in southeast d.c. we're working to learn more, but here's what we do know. police were called to the area of good hope road and alabama avenue around 5:00 this morning where they found a man with a gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital. right now there is no word on a suspect or even a motive in this case. we're working to learn more. okay, yes, spring training is over. no more games in florida. just a couple of exhibition games before the nationals play some games for real! >> they're going to actually be at nats park tomorrow and saturday to face the twins. and then the home opener is exactly one week from today, and that's when you know spring has arrived. eun will be at the park that
