at 10:00, we're tracking high winds and bitter cold on this sunday morning. the wind whipping through leaving a mess on many roads. >> whether you're going to church or running aerrands, stom team 4 is tracking problem spots. >> the damage behind behind, we're assessing that this morning. you can see some of the images here. trees toppling over on to roads and cars. but the big problem this morning for many folks has been the power outages. let's get the latest newspapers

numberer for you. dominion virginia, 15,000 customers without power. >> pepco reporting a little more than 1,000 outages at this point. bg&e also looks like they stand away 4600 customers in the dark right now. two people are lucky to be alive after this tree came crashing into their car in college park. prince george's county fire saying that they had to cut two people out of the car on 49th avenue and hollywood road. the tree flattened that car and damaged a nearby home. >> let's head over to tom kierein tracking this system. >> those exposed older trees that were in saturated soil, those easily toppled over with those 60-mile-an-hour winds he we had overnight. now the winds have greatly diminished on this sunday morning, right around 35, 40 miles an hour. but with temperatures only in the 30s, look at the windchills. only feels like it's in the 20s. feels like we're in february, ot

windchill at reagan national, 28 degrees. that's the feels like temperature. so layer up before you're heading out. and we still have high wind warning on the eastern shore, but all the other high wind warnings have been canceled across our region. they're replaced by this wind advisory for another few hours northern, eastern suburbs with winds gusting up to 45 miles an hour for another couple of hours. last night's storms caused a lot of damage and power outages as we've been telling you all morning. >> a tree actually leaning towards a home in bethesda. leaning away from it but towards the power and telephone lines right there. dangerously close to falling on those lines. derrick ward is actually in that area and he's live in bethesda chatting with the homeowners who are trapped by the tree this morning. hey, derrick. >> reporter: good morning again. well, indeed one homeowner is kind of trapped because it's just probably not a safe thing do to walk under that tree when it's leaning that precariously.

up into zones. top zone is for power distribution, lower stoen for communications, cable, telephone. this tree can take almost all of those out if it sdw indeed come down. and this is from those high winds through this area. topped 60 miles an hour last night. so when this happened, the homeowner said she actually heard a lot of noise like the crack link and came out and saw it and then she felt trapped because of the precarious nature of that tree. so again the power lines and just not knowing if it will come wn again through the strong wind. and she said one tree sort of kept the other tree from doing a whole lot of damage. >> i always hated the one there and now thank god i believe it kept the poplar from crashing through all the wires.wone

>> reporter: sometimes one may actually help the other and the other thing that tree is indeed tall enough, if it fell, it could do damage to the houses on the other side of the street. crews down there at the other end assessing how best to get the tree stabilized enough. i don't know if that means they will have to cut off power, pepco and asplundh there, as well. derrick ward, news 4. severe weather affected this morning's cherry blossom 10 mile run. the kids run, welcome area, performance stage all had to be canceled and officials also decided to remove all the overhead signage and structures. not going to be a post race awards ceremony either. on the race route, officials had to get rid of the split time clock because of the strong winds. want to remind you, a great time to have the nbc washington app especially during severe weather. it' w

with the storm team 4 meet xwis to push out any alert. just click on the weather tab. we've learned the name hit and killed by a fairfax county police officer. 26-year-old jeffrey aguilar was hit and killed on old beulah street last night. police say he walked into a crosswalk against a green light. police say the officer was alone in the patrol car when the accident happeneded a was not hurt. and now to a story in chevy chase. a person dead after being thrown from their car on to kensington parkway. this happened around 2:00 in the morning. maryland state police just identified the victim as 23-year-old jose bonilla torez of herndon. police tell us that he was exiting the beltway at connecticut avenue when he drove off the ramp. he crashed into the bridge and then the car fell on to kensington parkway. police say the driver was thrown

alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. p. we're working to learn more about a stabbing on four mile run in arlington. happened last night on the trail.person taken to the hospital with what police call traumatic injuries. we're working to find out their condition. last night's stabbing in arlington, the second in as many days there. this morning we can tell you police did make an arrest in friday's deadly assault, what was their first murder of the year. police say a 17-year-old boy stabbed 46-year-old dennis adams to death on friday. neighbors tell news 4 that 17-year-old suspect is adams' son. right now police not releasing his identity. the teen is expected in court on monday. the stabbing happened friday night on south glebe road near 3rd street. and we want to remind you we're following that breaking news, a deadly amtrak derailment south of philadelphia. what we're finding out as investigators piece together the

cellphone video captures a terrifying scene at a philadelphia flyers game. this is saturday afternoon. you can see the escalator speeding up sending fans tumbling to the ground. some flipped over the side of the rail there. luckily, though, no injuries were reported. p the company that owns the escalator comcast spectator says that it was immediately closed and wasn't used for the rest of the day. comcast

there is the flag near union station where we've had gusts upper 30s to near 40 just over the last hour or so. and elsewhere the wind gusts are a little stronger. bwi marshall just had a gust to 51 miles an hour. the winds are stronger just north and east of the metro area. but you can see lighter wind gusts far south into virginia. but this afternoon peak gusts should be under 30 miles an hour. a look at big changes on the way in just a couple of minutes. donald trump is on damage control after one of the most challenging weeks for his campaign. his campaign manager was arrested, he called for women who have abortions to face punishment and he's slipping in some polls. >> joining us to break it down a is chuck todd. seems like in a normal campaign there would have been several bad weeks so to speak for a regular candidate. you got somebody like donald trump, it's been a rough week. is this really going to have an impact?

every other bad week he's had, the voters have bailed him out. he would have this horrible week leading up to it and people think this is going to impact him now, he will lose new hampshire, south carolina. huh-uh. this is why tuesday we have not seen a situation that we hear to be heading no which is trump has a bad week punctuated by a bad loss. what does that do, does it stiffen their spines. do you see more people quietly rooting against trump privately and the republican party suddenly go public. you'll hear today from a republican senator from wisconsin who on one hand said earlier this week i think trump could help me in my re-election and then praised and you of the apity trump people in wisconsin. so it was clear he was trying to send the message he wasn't a big fan but didn't want to quite say it. what happens win voters say it. do more people feel comfortable being critical of truffle. so he's trying

fix his problems in wisconsin. >> if ted cruz wins wisconsin, does it come down to by how much he wins? >> well, no. well, it might a little bit the. but i think it really will be now look toward new york and whether they have the ability to stop him. and to prevent him from getting the delegates. in many way what is is happening in the primaries are important, but what happens during the state conventions might be more important. for instance trump has won the most delegates in tennessee, but this weekend they chose who the delegates are. the delegates they chose to be trump delegates are not fans of trump. they have to vote for him on the first ballot and in tennessee's case the secretary ballot, but the list they picked are not trump people. trump people are unhappy because on the third ballot, they're out. that's the problem he's facing. >> after a week like we saw with trump, good day to watch "meet the press". you can catch it 13 1/2 minutes or so from

still could have a few isolated branches down. there is that flag near union station. it's still flying in a wind that is gusting up to 40 miles an hour right here in washington. and we have the bright sunshine. latest wind gusts, peak gusts bwi marshall had a gust of 51 miles an hour. storm giving us all this wind is way up in new england. look at our windchills, though, it's only in the 20s to away 30 gris. that's the feels like temperature. storm team 4 radar, the one area where we had flurries, that has dissipated. so the hour by hour forecast with the blue sky over capitol hill now, noontime temperature should be in the low 40s. still with gusts maybe 30 miles per hour. so then 20 to 25-mile-an-hour gusts by 3:00 p.m. temperatures in the low 50s. by 6:00 p.m., back down to the upper 40s with a much lighter wind

evening with temperatures in the mid-40s. waiting at the bus and metro tomorrow morning, we'll be in the 40s and still a bit blust y blustery. 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., you may need an umbrella with showers coming through but milder. and four day forecast showing colder air returning on tuesday, in the low 30s tuesday morning. afternoon highs only around 50 degrees with sunshine on tuesday. and again low 30s on wednesday morning. but a bit milder during the afternoon. upper 50s. unfortunately for the nationals home opener on thursday, it might git get rained out. showers looking likely with highs in the low 60s. still perhaps a few passing showers on friday otherwise partly cloudy with highs reaching the mid-50s. toward the weekend, it gets chilly again. saturday morning lows may be in the 20s. afternoon highs only in the 40s next saturday with a partly cloudy sky. so up and down we go on. it must be spring. >> that's right. even th
