>> reporter: i'm darcy spencer live at union station with what riders can expect tomorrow morning. and a car crashes right into a local zchurch. >> announcer: news 4 at 11:00 begins with breaking news. we begin tonight with breaking news in montgomery county, where all northbound lanes of interstate 270 are shut down after a crash that injured as many as eight people. fire officials say one woman has serious injuries. four kids are among those hurt in the crash but we're hearing that they are all expected to be okay. this happened just before 10:00 near the way station in the clarksburg area between routes 1 109 and 121. amtrak passengers, expect delays on the northeast corridor tomorrow after

train track crash. the train hit a backhoe near philly. two people died. many passengers were hurt. the crucial data records and forward and inward facing cameras will be brought back to a lab here in washington. reporter drew smith begins our team coverage in chester, pennsylvania. >> reporter: amtrak is working overnight to make repairs to minimize disruptions to monday morning's commute, all while federal investigators try to answer a big question. what was a piece of construction equipment doing on live track? amtrak trains back in service moved slowly past an investigation scene late sunday, where train 89 till sat partially derailed and heavily damaged. >> it was just like a big earthquake. >> reporter: this photo shows what it looks like inside one of the train cars. >>

was like a big explosion. >> reporter: from above, sky force 10 shows the machine the train rain into. the collision sent 35 people to the hospital. >> we now have our second doa located at the impact site of the backhoe. >> reporter: nbc 10 confirmed with federal officials the two who died were long time amtrak workers. magazine editor and political figure steve forbes was on board. he tweeted prayers for the victims. once first responders could find a safe way to get through this mess, they all took a trek with luggage in tow through the woods to a triage area. buses brought them back to philadelphia's 30th street station. then the national transportation safety board's investigators moved in. >> as part of our investigation we will be looking at the track structure and the work that was performed at the time of the accident. >> reporter: nicole stock's home faces directly onto the scene. she's used to seeing routine rail work. but now she's worried

>> from my window you can see the front of the train all smashed up. crazy. kind of scary. >> reporter: the ntsb collected the event data recorder plus two cameras which should have recorded what happened here. we asked if there were communication issues between the work crew and amtrak dispatchers. right now investigators can't answer that question. in chester, pennsylvania, drew smith, news 4. we've got live team coverage on the deadly amtrak crash. news 4's darcy spencer joins us live from union station with what passengers can expect tomorrow. darcy? >> reporter: that's right, erika. we're here at union station. we went inside tonight into the amtrak passenger area. we were able to look up on the board, it looked like there were only a few delays, some one-hour and two-hour delays. we're also learning tonight part of this investigation is coming right here to washington. at union station, amtrak still getting

after a deadly train derailment in pennsylvania. these women said their 87-year-old godmother's train left union station a couple of hours late. they say there was frustration and confusion. >> and the first thing that was happening with us, we were trying to find out what the delays will be, she was asked to leave the room. and, you know, i do intend to make a complaint about that. but -- and i know she was tired and frustrated, and probably upset. >> reporter: amtrak says it will operate on its regular schedule monday, after major disruption in service affecting travel up and down the east coast. that includes trains coming into and going out of washington, d.c. the national transportation safety board is investigating the cause of the crash. part of that investigation will happen right here in the nation's capital. >> as of now we have recovered the event data recorder, the forward facing video, and the

locate motive to send to our lab in washington, d.c. >> reporter: dozens more were injured. >> the train jerked back, i banged my knee. it bruised and now there's a knot on it. >> reporter: again, there could be residual delays tomorrow. if you have plans to travel by train, you could make sure you check to make sure that nothing has changed. you can go online, you can place a phone call. there's a good possibility things could be affected tomorrow morning. we're live at union station, darcy spencer, news 4. bad weather, poor lighting, appear to have contributed 28 deadly crash involving a fairfax county police cruiser. police say an officer hit jeffrey aguilar when aguilar stepped out into the street in the

county. the officer's dash cam recorded the crash. >> unfortunately mr. aguilar was crossing the street wearing dark clothing. the police cruiser collided with mr. aguilar. there was no reaction time for the officer. >> police have not identified the officer but say the officer has been with the department for two years. >> announcer: and now your storm team 4 forecast. and the winds taking a break i don't even need to but cool air with plenty of clear skies, dry air in place, temperatures plummeting tonight. frost advisory begins tonight until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, including for instance fauquier, loudoun counties. temperatures in those locations will potentially support light frost. if you have plants you're worried about, cover them or bring them indoors. 32 in frederick, 40 in the district. 33 in leesburg.

nbc news has confirmed a government-wide review is under way to consider whether to cut federal funding to north carolina. billions of dollars every year, because of the law that contradicts say limits protection for gay and transgender people. "we will not hesitate to act if students' civil rights are being violated," an administration spokesperson said. today, north carolina's governor pat mccrory pushed back, accusing the obama administration of strong arm tactics. the law bars people choosing bathrooms that align with their identi identity. on tuesday the governor posted this message on youtube. >> instead, north carolina has been the target of a vicious nationwide smear campaign, disregardihe
