restaurant in fort washington. police say there was some kind of fight. molette green is outside the restaurant and can tell us more about what's going on. good morning. >> reporter: barbara, good morning. moments ago i got off the phone with prince georges police who said they have made an arrest in this case. they have been working throughout the morning on this. we expect to get details shortly about the suspect and motive from police as they work to put together a press release. we can tell you that a fight turned very violent landed three men in the hospital early this morning. we spoke to several people who know the owner of this restaurant nightclub, martini's. they have partied here over the years. they tell me this kind of violence is out of the ordinary. most of the nights it's packed. it's a very popular hangout in fort washington. hours ago, prince georges county police arrived about

stab wounds to the upper body, and one of them a security guard. now, i spoke to a business owner on this same street who also frequents this club. >> from what they tell me, it was something that started from an argument, which is usually the case, and then it led to outside, and then from that point on, who knows. one thing we can say for sure, the actual knife or whatever weapon was used, it wasn't in the club because the actual stabbing or whatever didn't happen inside the club. >> reporter: so again, the three men stabbed here early this morning are expected to survive their injuries. the owner is well known in this community, in fact, lives about 10 minutes away. we went to his house, rang the door be doorbell, but nobody answered. again, princeç georges county police have made an arrest in this case. look for updates later today on news4 and inside our

washington app. we're live on news4 midday. the amtrak schedule has returned to normal after the deadly crash right outside philadelphia. right now camera footage are headed to d.c. ntsb investigators will use th to see what led to that crash. overnight crews towed the train from the crash site to nearby delaware county. two amtrak workers were killed when train 89 hit a backhoe on its way to savannah, georgia from new york city yesterday. today medical examiners will conduct autopsies on those two employees. 35 passengers on the train were hurt, though none seriously. more on how this compares to last year's derailment coming up at 11:35. here's a look at what folks woke up to in hartford, connecticut. that's on top of several inches that was already on the groun

timing on that, just a couple minutes. an investigation into a five-car crash. it shut down i-270 last night. look at the scene. the damage to these cars is huge. a dozen people are recovering right now, including six children. they're all supposed to be okay. and right now another accident investigation has shut down a road in st. mary's county. police have been on the scene at route 5 and ludville road for the last few hours. we're working to find out if anyone was hurt in this crash. investigators are warning drivers to expect delays. as soon as we hear back from police, we'll have an update here as well as on our nbc washington app. i'm kristin wright at the live desk which sounds to be good consumer news. it's a broadband label. let me explain. it's kind of

neighborhood. meteorologist tom kieran is also watching when we can expect a major temperature drop. hey, tom. >> this is all associated with that storm providing snow in new england. as it goes by, some much colder air tonight. ahead of that, we have mild temperatures in the 60s, but storm team radar showing these showers coming into western maryland, west virginia. they're on track to come in in the afternoon hours. as of 2:00 p.m., it will be in our northern suburbs and frederick county and haberstown. then they track into southern maryland and the eastern shore after that. 8:00 to 9:00 tonight, maybe a few lingering sprinkles in the eastern area, then it will get cold in the morning. students are crowding an administration building at duke university. they've been there for days now. they're soon to stage a sit-in for higher minimum wage for campus workers.

a frightening situation at an airport. take a look.

delays. a boiler room fire sent smoke pouring from the terminal at new york liberty international. hundreds of people were evacuated two times this morning. we know no one was hurt, however, more than 50 flights were delayed or canceled at the airport so far. i'm kristin wright at the live desk with a new report that's putting the airlines under the microscope. it is the airline quality report. it just came out just now within the hour. virgin america ranked number one. jetblue came in second. delta, hawaiian airlines and alaska airlines finished out the top five. now, keep in mind we told you earlier this morning that today alaska airlines announced its merger with virgin. they looked at on-line performance, how baggage is handled and customer complaints. there are a lot of them. >> the complaints have not been this high as a rate per pa

is going to new york, and planes could start flying to dulles international here in the washington area later this week. angie? more than 100 would-be refugees are in germany right now on their way back to the countries they came from. thousands of migrants have been detained in the last few weeks. the european union is trying to limit the massive numbers of people coming in from the middle east. many were sent to turkey this morning. human rights groups are strongly criticizing this move. investigators are looking for these thieves. take a look caught on surveillance cameras. they said they stole gifts meant for sick children. san francisco burglars broke into a make a wish office and snagged tons of donations. tens of thousands of dollars of sports memorabilia was taken. make a wish officials think the thieves used a crowbar to break in. right now people are rolling up their sleeves to help local heroes. prince william county police are holding a blood drive today

when they responded to a domestic incident in february. officers david mcclain and jessie hampton were hurt. officer ashley guindon was killed. the blood drive is happening on freedom center boulevard. this is in manassas. it started early this morning and it will run until 6:00 tonight. you shouldn't have to deal with any computer problems at any medstar health clinics today. officials say they restored the computers that physicians use to access medical records. last week hackers shut down the entire system. staff had to go back to using paper records. the hackers demanded money in exchange for keys to regain access to the encrypted data. well, the time right now is 11:19. after the break, an idea that's getting a whole lot of attention. a ride-sharing service that's appealing to women and safety. >> sou

look at that. terrifying moments in canada as a car plunges down a cliff above the atlantic ocean. police say the driver either jumped or was thrown from the car just before it went over the side, nosedived over the edge. this happened in newfoundland. the 25-year-old driver was rescued from the face of the cliff. she is expected to be okay. crews rapelled down and were able to lift the car 2500 feet back on the cliff. chariot for women, it's called, was started by a former uber driver. the massachusetts-based company only hires women drivers. the goal is to give female passengers peace of mind by ensuring another woman is always behind the wheel. the

only pick up female passengers or boys under the age of 13. chariot for women is set to launch around the country on april 19th. well, today some dogs, cats and a guinea pig are enjoying a brand new place to run around. the washington humane society moved the animals from its adoption center on jordan avenue to oak street northwest. that happened this morning. the humane society and the washington animal rescue league merged and the move was part of the deal. the group says the new facility gifrz the animals more room to exercise and play. they're so cute. >> absolutely. >> i want to see the guinea pig. tom has warned us we are in for a major drop in temperatures tonight. >> after the break, more on that temperature drop and the wild weather we dealt with over the weekend. it was cold. >> i know.

area over the weekend. houses and cars really took a beating. one woman in bethesda spent most of the day trapped in her house after a tree fell onto a utility pole right in front of her door. another man was actually knocked out of his bed by falling debris after a huge tree came crashing through his roof. >> i was asleep on the far side of the bed, and we were both awakened when stuff started falling. and i'm, you know, bumped up. i've got bumps on my head and stuff, but he was actually unconscious and stuck under stuff. >> lucky to have survived. at one point on sunday, the winds were up to 60 miles an hour. service from d.c.'s 911 center was also affected by those strong winds. the center lost the lights and air-conditioning after a power outage around 11:00 saturday night. the director for the city's unified communications office moved operations to the backup location in northwest during the outages. now, those outages did not impact 911 calls or un

temperatures. tom, what is the latest? >> the clouds on the increase. there's a live view from storm team city camera. we're looking at the tidal basin where just last week we had the cherry blossoms at peak. that wind we had over the weekend knocked a lot of the blossoms down so we're not seeing a lot of them left. live camera looking to the west. we can see the clouds thickening up, and that's in advance of some rain coming in. if you're planning a run or maybe a bike ride for the afternoon, now is the time to get out. we'll be in the mid-60s to 70 degrees. hovering between 70 at 1:00 and 2:00, then the sun comes in into the evening hours. temperatures drop back down into the 50s and the wind back up. a freeze for tomorrow. two amtrak workers were killed when the train slammed into a

now officials want to know why that backhoe was there to begin with. it's the second derailment in philadelphia in less than a year. >> reporter: overnight wreckage cleared after yet another tragedy on the tracks. >> we now have our second doa located at the impact site of the backhoe. >> reporter: two amtrak construction workers dead after a southbound amtrak passenger train slammed into their backhoe sitting on the tracks. of the 330 passengers and seven crew members on the train, 30 were taken to area hospitals. none of the injuries life threatening. passengers described a harrowing crash and explosion. >> there were some people that were pretty bloody because it was an explosion. we got off track and then it was like a big explosion. then it was a fire. >> reporter: it happened just before 8:00 a.m. sunday. palmetto train 89 from new york to savannah, georgia had just passed philly. as it approached chester,

the amtrak backhoe was sitting right in its path. the impact was sudden and violent, throwing some passengers from their seats. >> it was such a harsh thud, you know, just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. >> reporter: now ntsb rail investigators are on the scene looking for clues. >> we will be looking at mechanical, operations, signal, track, human performance and survival factors. >> reporter: it was just last may that eight passengers were killed, 200 injured when a speeding amtrak train derailed north of philly. that investigation is still under way. now south of philly on the busiest commuter train tracks in the u.s., another deadly accident. >> there is no excuse for a backhoe being on a track that a train -- that a live train was running on. >> that was tom costello reporting. today the medical examiner is going to conduct autopsies on those two people that were on the backhoe and died in the crash. sources say both people were long-time amtrak employees. we are getting
