atlanta braves hector oliveira was arrested. police were called about a dispute between a man and a woman. the victim had bruises and was taken to the hospital. charges are now pending. police say he and the victim do know each other. the braves, though, are in the middle of a four-game series against the nationals. they play tonight at 7:00. the workers are on strike demanding better treatment on the job. kristin wright is live in falls church. she was there when it began this morning. kristin, what's happening now? >> reporter: it's been about five hours now, and these workers promise they're going to stay, really, for as long as it takes. the workers on strike, they work on land line services, internet and tv, and that is what could potentially be impacted.

statement and they told us they have trained workers to step in now to make up for the strike. they also add they have been negotiating in good faith and made several generous offers. we'll definitely keep you posted on what happens next. back to you. >> all right, kristin. metro's general manager will be in the hot seat this afternoon on capitol hill. paul weidefeld is testifying to the house panel about the system. they are expected to talk about metro's systemic issues. he'll tell the panel the confidence is shaken when it comes to metro's safety, and he's expected to explain why he order that had shutdown last month. he is expected to call for better funding for metro. next month there will be a new executive to make sure metro's rail and bus lines

them. the officer died after they shot him. a police officer is facing new charges. a grand jury added two capital murder counts against robert hamilton. he's already facing charges for capital murder and first-degree murder for allegedly killing his wife and officer ashley guindon during an argument in his home. two capital murder charges were added for shooting two other prince william officers who survived. hamilton will be back in court later this month. no matter what the crime is, d.c. now has a way to quickly get you help if you need it. the d.c. victim hot line officially launched today, although it's been active for a while now. to call the hotline, you dial 1-444-4helpdc. the personal on the other end of the line can help you with all kinds of legal or emotional problems, however, if y

it's looking like a close race for maryland's senate seat. marist polls show chris van holland with a six-point lead over donna edwards. new this midday, the edwards campaign has released a new ad detailing the congresswoman's new efforts to fight gun violence. >> there are just too many guns on our streets in the wrong hands. and nothing will change until we break the gun lobby's strangle hold on washington. >> nearly one in five likely democratic voters report being un undecided in our new poll. some say they could change their minds before the primary. now, how maryland feels about the presidential candidates. the polls show both frontrunners with double-digit leads heading into the april 26 primary. trump leads cruz 41 to 29%.

cars says it's basically impossible to tell if they're going to be safe. the rand corporation says you would have to test self-driving cars for hundreds of millions of miles to find out if it's safe enough for the roadways. according to the reports, that could take hundreds of years. the national highway traffic safety administration says more than 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human error. new today, an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the capitol dome. the restoration project is almost completed, and by summer all that scaffolding is expected to come down with the project on budget and ahead of schedule. and then crews will focus on the inside of the rotunda. nbc's peter alexander followed along as house speaker paul ryan got an update on the work. >> reporter: on this stunning d.c. day, a rare look at the top of the symbol of democracy.

for a cup of coffee just because you're a woman. so why does congress think it's ok that women get paid 20% less than a man for doing the same job? i'll fight for pay equity, to protect planned parenthood, choice for women, and expand paid and family leave. now some politicians will belittle this as a women's agenda. more proof that we just need more women in congress. i'm kathleen mathews and i approve this message.

about some completely different candidates for president. and ellen degeneres won. she came in first about the poll which celebrity people would vote for to be the commander in chief. here's what ellen said about the idea. well. we're all in the same boat. and we're all in the same boat with sunshine. a good day to be on a boat, actually. our daytime highs in the mid to upper 60s. yesterday we topped out at 68 but that was at 1:13 in the morning and then we continued to drop off from there. it was a little breezy yesterday. it's going to be much nicer today. temperatures rise tling through 50s, just gorgeous conditions out there. tonight going to be a little chilly as we fall into the 30s and 40s around d.c. we'll take a few degrees up tomorrow. low 60s for tomorrow but plenty of sun thanks to high pressure. we'll keep that sunshine going. cherry blossom festival looking good. a gorgeous end to the week, a gorgeous weekend. maybe a slight chance of sprinkles monday night. that's news4 midday. thanks for being with us this morning. we're back on the air this afternoon first at 4. you can get your news and weather updates any time with the nbc
