play by play. >> reporter: the high wire drama was carried on live japanese tv. the escaped chimpanzee named chau chau led a zoo in northern japan and showed no interest in going back. the 24-year-old male perched above and swinging across electrical lines. the reporters calling the play by play live for nearly two hours. he just got hit, one yelled. after a tranquilizer dart stung the ape. the chimp is yelling hee's so angry. it's dangerous, go away. don't be here. then the sedative starts to sink in. he's falling, trying to grab the cable. he's about to go down, they say and then this spill. caught with a safety net, he was dazed but isn't hurt. a happy ending for the zoo but not for cha cha.

for you. northbound georgia at colesville, have the right lane getting by that work zone here morning. taking a look at 395 north at duke street, again right lane also getting by. beltway here at pennsylvania avenue looking good, inner loop and outer loop. this morning we're monitoring the complain of a maryland state trooper following a terrible crash on the beltway. he suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital yesterday afternoon. police say a suspected hit and run driver slammed in to his police car that was sitting on the shoulder of the road. police say the driver, 60-year-old, hit three other cars before slamming in to the trooper's car. the trooper's car was then hit by a second time by a tow truck. >> there will be charges here coming soon. we'll consult with the state's attorney's office to make sure
