a firefighter is dead and another in serious condition after a triple shooting. they were responding to a medical call yesterday at 7:30 in the evening when the resident inside opened fire. one firefighter in serious condition at shock trauma in baltimore. a third person also shot, not seriously injured we're told. the shooting suspect is currently in police custody.

that's the way it looks on storm team 4 weather deck. and we're following a developing story in northeast. a man is is fighting for his life after police say he was burned at a gas station. it happened at the bp on quall street 1:30. investigators say the man is suffering from serious burn injuries. we're still work to go figure out how this all happened. a lot happening today in the district. along with the cherry blossom parade, folks also going the celebrate emancipation day. complete with parade and fireworks, mayor muriel bowser using this to reignite the battle for d.c. state hood. it's a matter of us having our full rights as americans certainly. >> the district has 672,000 residents who pay federal taxes and serve in the military but lack voting representation in re

the day since a virginia man vanished. now police are hoping someone comes forward on this cold case. he went missing april 16th, 1988 from the manassas mall. detectives are not giving up on this case. police released this sketch of a man who may have been with him when he disappeared. they need the public's help to identify him. a disturbing story here. a fairfax county employee was arrested for a sex assault. malcolm hall faces attempted rape charges. he entered an unlocked centreville apartment earlier this month and sexually attacked a 77-year-old woman. it happened at the forrest glen at sully station complex. most of the residents are elderly or disabled. he was fired from his part-time job while the investigation continues. an update for the battle for the white house.

between supporters and opponents of gop front-runner donald trump. this was in connecticut. thousands packed the arena. another thousand stood outside when they could not get in. opponent lit a trump sign on fire and yelled, feel the bern. the connecticut primary takes place april 26th. democratic presidential candidate bernie sanders sitting down with pope francis is. the meeting took place at the vatican before the pope left for his one-day visit to greece. he has prayed the pope's views on poverty and the environment. we want to remind you tomorrow on "meet the press", pat mccrory is talking about his state's controversial lgbt law.

officials chased a mountain lion through a high school campus. the big cat scaled a fence, roamed through a nearby neighborhood. the lion was hit with a tranquilizer dark. they waited as it rolled around in the bushes. officials finally moved in when it was passed out in a flower bed. they loaded the big cat into a pickup truck. the animal is expected to be okay. fortunately no one in that area was hurt. and a baseball fan is recovering after being struck by a foul ball friday night. the game is being played in tampa between the rays and the white sox. the ball went through a gap in the netting and hit the female fan siing in the second row. the game came to an abrupt halt. the emt raced to the scene. the woman was taken to the hospital. she is expected to be okay. an ohio m

potential charges after he put his two sons through a test. >> here's what happened. the dad apparently asked friends to go to his house is and ask to be let inside. the father asked the friends to do this as a test to his sons. his 14 and 16-year-old sons are always told don't let strangers in or people they know unless they have their father's admission. one pretended to be an ex con recently released from prison. they barricaded themselves in a bedroom and jumped out the window. the father says his sons learned a lesson. >> they are so gullible to the point where if i tell them tonight do this, they always have a reason why they should do the opposite. so i'm hoping now and my son did say he would never open the door. >> the city prosecutor is considering charges against the father

sparkling sunshine. the sun pouring down the forrest. you can see the new baby leaves are all showing off this spring morning. and temperatures are really beginning to jump now with the strong april sun now climbing into the 50s throughout much of the region. it will jump into the 60s by noon time and hover near 70 degrees during the afternoon. a look at our next chance for rain in a couple of minutes. all right. expect to see more officers on one stretch of road particularly known for speeding. more police will monitor the stretch of the gw parkway between mt. vernon and old town

>> the speed limit varies 35 to 45 miles per hour near belhaven road. the minimum speeding ticket is $95. but get this, fines can top out at 300 bucks. two dozen students were hurt in a school bus crash in a parking lot at rfk stadium. it slapped into a light pole in lot 8 of the stadium around 2:00 p.m. yesterday. 22 children and two adults, including the bus driver, were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. there were a total of 46 people on board. no word what caused the crash. the students attended wood ridge elementary school. looks like fairfax county schools will get more funding under the latest budge

according to the "washington post", the board of supervision is likely to adopt a 2017 budget that would raise property taxes by an average of $304 per year. now, they would use most of that to fund county schools. that means the school district would get $88.4 million next year. today is the grand 0e7 opening of reston's nano brewery. jason and melissa romano have been brewing their own beers for years. and, well, these two are ready to make it a career. >> we can ferment up to six at a time. we have the capacity to serve 12 beers at a time. we brew in small batches. we will brew a different variety every time we brew. we will eventually have up to 12 beers on tap. >> the names on the tap not the names of the beer but chosen by

>> clemson university students preparing for what could be a long weekend. they're continuing a sit-in protest that began on wednesday. the protest started after a campus march to demand more diversity and improve race relations. protesters stay they will stay inside the building if school leaders do not improve the racial climate on campus. five students got citations for protesting. they want to talk directly with the president to end the sit-in. so far they have been told he's not available. >> and the

night on sharon road in temple hills. a family member called for help because they were worried about a relative indeed. when no one opened the door after knocking several times, firefighters forced their way in and were met with gunfire. >> as that was unfolding, the individual indeed the home fired a number of rounds striking two prince george's county firefighters and the concerned individual who led public safety to that address during the course of the evening. >> the resident who fired the shots is in custody. he has been cooperative. firefighter medic john ulmschneider died at the hospital shortly after arriving. he was a 13-year veteran of prince george's county fire ems department. >> it's a tragedy.

neighbors had seen them yesterday. when all of this happened, nothing seemed out of character. we're told the relative that called 911 to check on the welfare of this person is a regular visitor to this house and there never seemed to be any sort of problem. neighbors were startled by the sound of gunfire when all of this happened. now the investigators trying to put it altogether to see what led up to this. we're told this person had just retired from o

by 1:00, mid-60s. by 2:00, hovering near 70 until 4:00, 5:00. and then dropping down to mid-60s late afternoon with a gentle breeze and lots of sunshine. tom, thank you. 9:35 is your time now. new developments in the crash that seriously hurt a maryland state trooper. he remains in critical condition after a car hit his cruiser on the beltway thursday. we learned more about the chain of events that led to that collision. investigate issors say this mercedes was hit from behind. it started driving erratically up the shoulder and crashed into the trooper's parked car. the driver of the car is in the hospital awaiting charges. the move over law was not only put in place to protect police and emergency responders but all drivers when and if they have an emergency situation.

the garage. they had a club and knives. kristi was upstairs in bed. >> and then i heard the scuffle, like him hitting the wall. and then i heard chris run, from my husband. i said, chris run? >> she didn't have a chance. they ransacked the bedroom and beat the couple. >> they said if you don't do what we want, we will beat her. every time my husband spoke, they beat him. he was beaten unmercifully. >> later the attackers took the couple down to the kitchen that jimmy made his move. two suspects briefly left the room. the third implied they might burn the couple next. >> at that point he's like we're getting out. he held out his hand to me and said let's go. i held his hand. he ran to the knife rack in the kitchen and grabbed the knife. >> the intruders came at jimmy, but two were stabbed.
