>> it's got to be the brightest point for us at the end of a trying week. >> firefighters were called to a home to check on a man. the homeowner opened fire when firefighters forced their way in, apparently believing someone was trying to break in. one firefighter died. swain was 19 years old, shot four times. he needed a little help as he climbed into the front seat of the engine. >> for public safety, a line of duty death is a dark moment, a trying moment. the sweet moment is there's a ray of light getting to see someone that was injured critically get to go home and complete their recovery and spend time with their family. >> reporter: swain road in the fire engine all the way home in carroll county where he'll continue his recovery. he's eager to get back on the
