students here have been robbed at knife point just outside the school, but this time this morning the student was stabbed. the victim is a senior, who friends say regularly drives to school and parks in the nearby neighborhood. this morning as he got out of his car just steps from the school a man approached him and demanded his phone and money. >> there was a brief exchange of words. a struggle ensued and our victim was stabbed in the leg. >> reporter: the suspect dropped a knife and fled on foot. the student was able to walk into the school and ask for help. his friends say they were shocked to see their friend as he staggered into the school. >> saw him going into an ambulance and there's like blood. that's all i knew. >> reporter: that victim's friends tell us he is a senior. he is a member of the wilson crew team here. he recently got accepted to t

metro is trying to explain yet another smoke incident. smoke filled a tunnel and part of the train on the red line saturday night. >> this kind of scene is becoming all too familiar. this time it happened between the tinley town and friendship heights stations. at the risk of sounding like a broken record here, what happened this time? >> reporter: that's right, chris. it is starting to get a bit repetitive at this point. we're talking about smoke in the tunnel. what we do know is saturday night around 8:00 a red line train was approaching the friendship station. smoke started coming into the train and riders started panicking on board that train. we actually talked to one rider who was on board the

spotlight on the eve of primary day. first, a developing story tonight. detectives are investigating a murder at a park in montgomery county. police say they still don't know what led up to the death of the 18-year-old, but in just the past few hours we have learned his name. meagan fitzgerald joins us live now from montgomery village. >> reporter: his name is oscar benitez and he was 18 years old. we've been out here talking to neighbors today. they say they've seen a number of troubling incidents in and around the park. this morning it was even more concerning for them after they had to watch a homicide investigation play out in this parking lot behind me. centerway park is a place many neighbors say they used to eny,

the neighborhood is starting to change. >> a community that's been changing since we moved in. >> reporter: this morning montgomery county police continued investigating a murder from the night before. detectives say several people were in the parking lot at around 10:00 when 18-year-old oscar benitez was assaulted and taken to the hospital. >> police were called to germantown about ten after 10:00. >> reporter: medical staff called police to say benitez had died. meanwhile, the suspect took off. >> it is just concerning. >> reporter: many neighbors say they're concerned about what they consider an increase in violence and they're hoping it will end soon. >> unfortunately, though, it's not a surprise. >> reporter: police can't conclusively say this was gang related, but that is one angle out of many that they're investigating. they're asking anyone with in the commuy
