e-mail with safety tips for parents and teachers, but she never told parents that a student had been held up at knife point. after today's stabbing outside of wilson high school, students were on edge. >> i do feel a little bit concerned for my safety now that people are being robbed a couple blocks from school. that's a concern to my safety. >> reporter: neighbors around the school are also worried about their safety. >> really surprised, but we have seen more robberies in this area in the past. there have been other stories about friends that we know that have people that have their guns pulled out on them. at the same time, still not surprised, but that is terrible. >> reporter: it was just after 9:00 this morning. a senior, who friends say is on the wilson crew team, was getting out of his car on his way to school when a man approached him with a knife. >> there was a brief exchange of words and what we think now is a robbery attempt. a struggle

was stabbed in the leg. >> reporter: the suspect ran away through the neighborhood. the student was able to get to school where staff called police and paramedics. the school's principal sent an e-mail to parents alerting them of the stabbing. but after the robbery of an 111th grade female student last week, the principal did not send an e-mail to parents. even with the safety of northwest, we may still fall prey to an undesirable situation. we reached out to the chancellor of d.c. public school and the mayor's office to ask why parents were never alerted about the first incident here. they told us late this afternoon they're looking into that and they would get back to us. d.c. police tell us they did make an arrest in that first incident. one juvenile was arrested. he was charged with multiple robberies in this area. as for the suspect today, he is still at large. the victim is expected to recover. jim, back to you.

there are new efforts to stop violence between students from two other d.c. high schools. beginning today the kids at dunbar and mckinley technology education campus, those students are being dismissed at different times. the students have been fighting at different metro stations when school lets out. now there's going to be a 20-minute gap between dismissal. police are having for your help in identifying some of the people in this video. you can see them knocking at least two victims to the ground. police say this was part of a robbery that happened early sunday morning on georgia avenue near howard university. so far nobody has been arrested yet. tonight, three navy families are staying in a hotel after a fire at joint base anacost anacostia-bolling. one building was destroyed by the flames

we were told earlier today three firefighters were injured battling that blaze, but those firefighters were examined on the scene and they're okay. officials are still trying to figure out what caused that fire. within the last hour, metro released some new information about that smoke episode over the weekend on the red line. a tunnel and rail car started filling with smoke after something started burning. adam tuss has been digging through the new details. he has the latest live from tinley town. >> reporter: it looks metro is focusing not on a problem with tracks, but something that came loose on a train that caused all that smoke. new details about what possibly could have gone wrong on the red line saturday night. metro just released a statement saying the investigation is focusing on a foreign object, specifically a metal part of a rail car becoming dislodged and making contacts with the
