now let's go over for an update on metro. >> red line no longer single tracking. we have a brand new crash southbound 3 at 424. trying to get more information on that one, but sounds like it could be serious here this morning. prince george's county overall looking pretty good here. inbound indian head highway a little slow. pretty typical. 22 miles per hour headed in to town. top of the beltway and all of these main routes looking quite good here. 270 south at 80, still have that crash reported and slowdowns in the southbound lanes. going to check on that situation on 3 and also have travel times for you in ten minutes. we are staying on top of breaking news on a quadrup run shooting. one person dead, three others wounded. it unfolded in information recentville. police have been piecing together evidence on hill har drive and kristin wright is on the scene with more information. >> reporter: we moved our

better. police on hour four of this investigation. it is a homicide investigation. evidence markers you can see there right in the street. police came out first at about 1:30 this morning. we have video there overnight. they found a woman who had been shot, she did not make it. three men were also shot, one in critical. police say the other two are going to be okay. so again, that is a total of four people shot, a quadruple shooting here in information recentville this morni information recentville this morning. it appears the shooting happened in the street. the shooting woke up one guy we talked to and he didn't think it was violence he was hearing. >> sounded like firecrackers, you know, going off. but i didn't think it wasr actually shooting. but i see now that it was. >> reporter: so right now detectives are working to figur

minutes with what to expect today. >> he's accused of killing his wife and a prince william county officer. tod today ron al hamilton has to answer to a judge. produces kurt tore officer ashley guindon was killed on her first day on the job. attorneys for both sides will go over evidence at a hearing this morning. court records indicate hamilton confessed to the shootings. a suspect is being questioned in a fairfax county homicide. a man was found dead inside afternoon apartment in the mt. vernon area yesterday afternoon. the woman who went to the south county government center to report the death is now being questioned. a neighbor we interviewed did not want to reveal her identity out of fear of retaliation. >> did you ever hear anything suspicious, any noises, any yelling? >> nothing out of the ordinary. argument every once in a while, but nothing out of the ordinary. >> fairfax county police say there is no threat to

if it backfires, but today will be a good example of what could have been. i mean, i think there are as many as 50 delegate has trump will win today that had cruz and case kasich cut the deal a month ago, we couould have seen cruz skill this tuesday, not really campaign in many of these states. instead focus on indiana. but you could have had a kasich one-on-one, maybe knock off a trump in maryland or pennsylvania. but they chose not to do this five weeks ago. they're doing it now out of pure desperation. and it may be too little too late. >> so to the democrats. if hillary clinton wins big today, what is next for bernie sanders? >> well, i think the what is next is already there. i think it doesn't really matter today. obviously if sanders

the rising sun and mostly clear sky here early this morning. we will have plenty of sunshine early on in the day. enough sunshine to get temperatures to jump from the mid-60s how into the low and mid-80s for high temperatures today. so it will be a very warm day with increasing numbers of clouds and an opportunity for a rain shower or a thundershower later on this afternoon. but as you head out the door, temperatures this morning are 15 to 20 degrees or more warmer than the same time yesterday. just ground clutter showing up on storm team 4 radar. the nearest rain moving in to the pittsburgh area. the line does have enough energy with it on bring at least the possibility of stronger storms. the big severe weather today will be out across oklahoma and kansas. so if you're traveling that direction, that's where the highest risk for real severe weather is. long track tornadoes. for us, a mar begin al to slight risk for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon. the greatest risk is along the

between about 2:00 and 8:00. primary threats today, gusty winds a s and small hail. here is future weather. 2:00, the first line of showers and thunderstorms possibly moving in to the shenandoah valley. and by 4:00, right under the metro area and into southern maryland. and then as we got toward 6:00, another round of thunderstorms coming this into northern maryland. so as a result, if you're planning to be outside today, have your umbrella ready to go. headed down for the baseball game, first pitch at 7:00. thunderstorms will be possible with mid-80s at 5:00. showers and maybe a delay, possibility to perhaps a likelihood for at least a delay. there should be enough breaks in the raindrops, we should be able to get the game this. extended forecast, 85 today's i weather. we'll be in the 60s the rest of the week. problem on 66,

passengers in southern china got upset after their flight was delayed. as airline staff tried to calm the two men and woman down, they started shouting and throwing food. you can see it right here. a female airline staff employee was slapped in the face by one of the men here. the passengers were detained by police. three month old kitten was not ready for adoption quite yet, but it doesn't stop somebody there snatching the cat from the humane society shelter on new york avenue. somebody walked out with the kitten while staff helped other people. the humane society is now offering a $1,000 reward to help find this little kitten. the votes are in. not those votes. but soon the two names will be picked and not that election either. today we're talking about the names of the d.c. new baby eeg eagles recently born at the national arboretum. their parents are mr. president and the first d

to have a mid range missile on standby. the south threatening stronger sanctions on an international level if north korea does in fact conduct a fifth nuclear test. this past weekend the north claim that had it had successfully test fired a missile from its submarine. but those reports have not been confirmed. it's 6:32. right now a home destroyed in a fire. the family lost everything, but they made it out alive. here is video from germantown. the montgomery county fire and ems says a grill on the deck started the fire. the smoke alarms went off and the fire escaped. the fire caused more than $150,000 in damage. wore're working to make sur you're ready for today's primary election before voters in maryland have a chance to weigh in on the races for the presidential nomination and several others.

derrick ward live now with what people should expect. >> reporter: kids are home from school and lots of signs in the yard. there must be an election. indeed this is super tuesday. voters will be going to the polls all across maryland and of course this is one of the most important elections, all elections are important, but a lot of attention focused on some of the local and national races, as well. joining me now is the president of the montgomery county board of elections. and this is special for maryland. >> very exciting. usually by the time of our primary, the presidential nominations are wrapped up. this year they're fighting right to the end. it's exciting. every delegate counts. the national media is looking at maryland, we're one of the typhoon states voting today. i want people to come out in droves. show the nation that maryland cares and we'll have a big turnout today. i'm very excited. >> and you've already seen higher numbers than usual in early voting. >> yes.

all over the state, montgomery county, we had high early voting. what is great about today, we have new voting ap rat apparatu. we have a paper ballot and it's scanned. and we have the paper ballot to count if there is a dispute. so come out. the weather is great. going to be a big day for maryland. >> reporter: thank you so much. polls open in about half an hour and they close at 8:00 p.m. so take part. derrick ward, news 4. new details in an apparently plea daily for a man accused of making up a career in the cia. prosecutors say win simmons claimed he worked for the cia in order to get security clearances and government jobs. he pled not guilty in the case. but the "washington post" is reporting he will change that plea this week. sim ons is from

he appeared frequently on fox new, but was not paid for 240th appearances. nova armory opened last month, the owner filed a lawsuit against 64 people claiming they conspired to destroy the business. the lawsuit says of them even some followed customers out of the store and snapped pictures of their license plates. the owner says someone also mailed a death threat to a teenaged employee. the suit asked for $2.1 million in lost revenue and damages. redskins could be going all the way to the supreme court. they're asking the court to hear their trademark protection case. interest native americans say the word red skins is a racial slur and the trademark office canceled the team's trademark protection because of it. the team is appealing the decision but wants the supreme court to hear them next. the team's lawyer says a similar case about a band's trademark could effectively end the discussion before the team can go to court.

safe houses. review by the news 4 iteam shows public schools in d.c. region have ordered at the least 30 security lockdowns since 2014. lockdowns require students to be placed inside classrooms, doors locked, drapes pulled when there is a threat. montgomery county schools allowed our cameras inside one of the nearly 300 lockdown drills it has each year. the e team fouiteam found a num ordered because of a threat of a weapon near school grounds including at frederick high school during last february's shooting outside a basketball game. >> i think we pride ourselves for being resilient, so our kids, our parents, they didn't give us a lot of flack or trouble. they followed our lead. >> two teens were wounded and did survive. another young man was arrested. a police officer in michigan went above and beyond the call of duty. the officer in traverse city took as after pulling over

police have been searching for evidence all morning on hilmar drive. kristin wright just got new information from investigators there. kristin. >> reporter: good morning. we talked to police just a short time ago. we are able to get new information confirming that the shooting happened right here in front of these homes. you may be able to see a car with a front window shot out there. that is marked as evidence. police got here around 1:30 this morning for a report of a shooting. they found four people shot, a woman who was killed, a man who right now is in critical condition. and two men who are supposed to recover. homicide detectives are here now as well as toforensics. so far no one arrested. we will stay on top of this quadruple shooting for you, so stay with news 4 and the nbc washington app for more throughout the day. back to you. it is 6:46. a big day ahead in decision 2016. maryland is one of five states holding primaries today. soon there will be

the parameters that were outlined on sunday were that john kasich said i won't campaign in indiana. ted cruz, i'll give it all to you. and ted cruz says i won't campaign in states like oregon and few mexico p. but as john kasich mentioned, he's not telling his supporters not to necessarily vote for ted cruz in indiana. and so some mixed signals. and one other important hinge worth noting, indiana has had early absentee voting already. so many ballots have already been cast before it alliance was made. and so the kind of question is it going to work and we'll find out a week from today. of course we're so focused on tonight's five primary contests, but indiana is shaping up doing a big race. >> we'll keep an eye on if. and many people questioning why bernie sanders is staying in this race. and whether tonight could be the deciding factor of what he does next. >> i think fewer people actually saying that bernie sanders should actually bow out versus how he conducts his rhetoric and tone
