now, one person is dead in a quadruple shooting in forestville, maryland. kristin wright has been covering the tragedy for us. >> reporter: first i want to show everybody where this happened. just right out here on the street in front of these houses here. it's right across from this parn apartment building where there are a lot of windows, potentially a lot of witnesses to help police solve this homicide and quadruple shooting. detectives picked up bullets off the street. neighbors say they heard a lot of gunshots and saw a woman fall to the ground where she died. four people were shot right outside on hil mar drive in forestville this morning. >> sounded like they emptied a whole clip. >> reporter: a witness watching from her apartment said she saw a man firing before he jumped into a car that sped away. some people here are so afraid, they don't want to say anything. but reggie

stop. >> seems like people have no regards for human life. i don't understand it. i really don't. >> violence is not the answer. >> reporter: a car with a shot out window sat in the crime scene marked as evidence. neighbors are wondering if security cameras on the apartments across the street recorded the quadruple shooting. police are still looking for whoever fired all those bullets. >> we have homicide detectives out actively working to establish suspects and motives. >> reporter: no id on the woman yet. police have to tell her family what happened to her. >> it's a sad thing. all over again. >> reporter: at last check one of the men who was shot was in critical condition. the other two are expected to survive. back to you. >> thank you, kristin. d.c. police are working on a suspect description following a fatal morning stabbing. this happened in the 1200 block of north capitol street in northwest. a man found with stab wounds and later died from his iie

brand new details just in in the case of a 2-year-old who died last week after being left in her family's car for the day. the boyfriend of the victim's mother is facing involuntary manslaughter and child neglect charges. northern bureau virginia reporter says documents show the anondale's toddler's body temperature was rushed to the hospital with second degree burns where he body came in contact with a car seat she was sitting in. police say a routine may have led to fields leaving the little girl in the car. he's being held without bond. it's 11:03. a pedestrian is dead after being hit in anne arundel county. chopper 4 you can see there over the scene. major delays were going on while police investigated. soo as soon as we get more details we'll have them here on the nbc

the polls are open for maryland's primary races. here are the four things you should know. you have until 8:00 tonight to get in line. some first-time voters may have to present an id before casting their ballots. a driver's license and military id or u.s. passpor will all get you in. you must already be registered though in order to vote in today's elections. and finally expect to use a paper ballot today instead of a touch screen. news 4's derek ward is live in upp upper. >> reporter: if you saw voter turnout seeming lighter than expected, that's because early voting was exceptionally high this year all across the state. of course there are some dynamic races that people are paying a lot of attention to. the presidential race it's anybody's guess at this point for both parties' nominee. and there's the congressional race where more money has been spent than on any other race across the country. and of course hotly contested race to fill the seat vacated by

aft as i said after about 2:00 we're going to be possibly talking severe weather. we'll be talking about that m o coming up. a family lost their home and everything inside a giant fire. although everybody did make it out okay, six people were in the house when it caught fire. you can see all the damage that was done. montgomery county firefighters say that a grill on the deck started accidentally overnight. we are working to learn the name of a fairfax county homicide victim. a man was found dead inside an apartment in mt. vernon in that area yesterday afternoon. the woman who went to the south county government center to report the death is now being questioned. a neighbor we interviewed did not want to reveal her identity out of fear of retaliation. >> did you ever hear anything suspicious next door? any noises? any yelling? >> nothing out of the ordinary. you know, argument every once in a while, but nothing out of the ordinary. >> fairfax county police say

public. no charges have been filed. metro is still looking into the exact cause of saturday's smoke incident on the red line. it was narrowed in focus on a metal piece of a rail car that may have dislodged and touched the electrified third rail. the train operator reported a loud boom on saturday evening. that's when smoke started to pour into the front car. the train was between the tenleytown and friendship heights stations just before 7:30. no one was hurt. meanwhile, there's now a shakeup taking place within metro. news 4's adam tuss obtained internal memos detailing staffing change in departments including rail control center. one memo shows the rail director of transportation is on leave. the e-mail dated from before the smoke incident. tonight we could see the first real debate heat up over a piece of prime real estate in d.c. the fbi's j. edgar hoover building will soon come down leaving a coveted portion of

pennsylvania avenue up for grabs. cities in maryland and virginia are fighting over the fbi's plan to build a new headquarters and all the jobs and money that come along with it. tonight's meeting begins at 6:00 at the national capital planning commission in northwest washington. new fallout after a group of young singers is asked to stop singing the national anthem. we'll explain. plus, we have some new information about the different crime scenes where eight members of the same ohio family were killed. the illegal activity police are now looking into.

right now we're learning more about those execution style murders of eight members of one ohio family as a manhunt for the killer or killers ramps up. nbc's gabe gutierrez has the latest. >> reporter: this morning new details about the marijuana grow operations investigators say they found at three of the four crime scenes following the execution-style murders of eight family members in ohio. a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation tells nbc news the pot found was not for personal use. one location was an indoor facility with more than 100 plants. the other two were outside. >> there's plenty of places for people to grow marijuana. we're also a very, very poor county, one of the poorest counties in the state of ohio. and people grow marijuana as a cash crop.

have now been finished but results are not being released. today marks 30 years since the chernobyl explosion. several wreath laying ceremonies were held this morning to honor those who died. the 1986 explosion released radioactive material across 23,000 square miles. much of the region still has dangerously high levels of radiation. the ukrainian government has pledged to better shield the reactor after cracks recently started showing. ♪ a young choir singing their hearts out, but moments later they were stopped by two security guards. now officials at the september 11th memorial site say the staff was wrong to stop the kids from singing the national anthem. the guards told the group to stop as the performance could be viewed as a public demonstration. it happened last week while the

we were saying of seeing really bad severe weather. we have a small chance of seeing some severe weather around here. hail and gusty winds would be the main threat if we do see some severe weather. so we're going to have to watch out for that as we get into the afternoon. i know we have a few showers out there right now, so let's go ahead and show you what's going on outside d.c. looking wonderful. i mean, we've clouded up a little bit as we continue through the day, but all in all not too bad out there right now. if you're in the northern shenandoah valley you're getting a little bit of rain. temperatures already up to 80 degrees. and what's responsible for that are these winds out of the south and west. yeah, they're gusting up a little bit at times up to about 20, 25 miles an hour. so that's helping pump up that temperature. and you may feel that humidity pump up a little bit as well. so temperatures winchester into the upper 60s but everybody else trying to get to the 80 degree mark. we're headed to the mid 80s today. rain will be on its way by about 1:00 or 2:00. by the time

in news for your health right now, childhood obesity in the u.s. now affects 4.5 million kids and teenagers. researchers at duke university say a childhood obesity epidemic that started 30 years ago continues to rise. about 33% of american children were overweight in 2014. and more than 17% classed as obese. studies have shown kids and teens have severe obesity have a higher risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes and even cancer. i'm melissa at the live desk. police in the district are looking for two men in connection with an attempted abduction in northwest. now, take a good look at these drawings. police say this happened monday april 18th around 7:00 p.m. in the 3900 block of argyle terrace. the men offered the child candy and tried to get that child into their vehicle. one of the men described as being about 70 years old with gray hair and green eyes and a

spring favorite and enjoy eating it. >> one of the best things about spring eating is all the fresh produce coming to season, especially fruits. they are ripe and juicy and perfect for making desserts. my favorite part of the meal. chef alex here executive pastry chef joining us now with a foolproof cheesecake recipe. thanks for joining us. always nice to see you, chef. >> always nice to see you. >> is there really such thing as foolproof? for those of us who aren't chefs and who aren't used to making fancy desserts, what's the secret here? >> the secret is to measure everything out and follow the directions of the recipe. and really it is foolproof. there's no way that this cheesecake is going to lead you down the wrong path. >> okay. so where do we begin? how do you make this beautiful cheesecake here? >> this is a lemon whipped ricotta cheesecake. it's not too sweet. there's no flower in it. and there's no crust on it either. >> i saw that. that's interesting. so how do you make it then? you add the

cream cheese? >> there's cream cheese and sugar and ricotta and it's whipped up until it's nice and fluffy and then we add a lemon flavored cream, just a little bit, a few other ingredients to finish it off. then baked off. very straightforward and simple. >> i know you have some seasonal fruits to put with it. the strawberries are so red and ripe. >> you know it's spring when you see strawberries and rhubarb in the market. for us that's our favorite time of the year in pastry because we start waking up with new ideas, new desserts, new fruit come available. these strawberries are very special. they're the first of the organic strawberries that we get from california. the ones in this area become available in the markets maybe two weeks from now, something like that. >> how do you incorporate that into your cheesecake dessert? >> i like to keep the fruit as fresh as possible. so these strawberries are cut up so you just take off the tops, just like this. and then cut them up into just a couple of pieces so they're all the same size.

over here are pretty much all identical in size. a sprinkle of sugar to let them macerate and the sweetness comes out more intensified. >> is there a key for not making them mushy? sometimes i overdo it and it gets a little messy. >> if the strawberries are already a little bruised and damaged, they're going to be a bit messy. also if you do them and let them sit for too long in the sugar they are going to get very soft. >> rhubarb, same treatment for that? >> the rhubarb is poached in a flavored vanilla syrup. and it's really very straightforward. you just cut it up into small pieces, throw it in a poaching liquid. and i have the recipes for you to share with all of your viewers. >> perfect. you mentioned it didn't have a crust, but what about this topping here? >> this topping over here is an almond crunch. what we do is we pus the crust on top as opposed to the bottom. if someone has a gluten allergy or anything else we can substitute by putting on other crunchy things. this is a strawberry

we can put these as a garnish as well on the dessert. or put them right on the top where the cheesecake is and it becomes friendly for everybody. >> you finish with a little extra lemon. tell me about what happens next? >> so i'm a big fan of intensifying flavors. so this is lemon curd, which is a different recipe. we put a little bit hidden in the middle of the cheesecake. >> oh. >> and then we're going to add a little bit as well just right next to it over here. and over here. >> super. >> so when you're going on the plate you can go by and just have a nice intense lemon flavor with the cake. >> all right. sounds good. i'm going to taste its of course. >> go for it. >> lemon, strawberry. delicious. can't wait to eat the whole thing. chef alex, thanks so much for joining us. so this dessert is on the menu at the navy yard served with gelato at the restaurant. we didn't want it

stop rain will be moving in after about 1:00 or 2:00 depending on your location. and we'll be watching for storms tracking on the storm team 4 radar after about 3:00 or 4:00 and you can see a little rain trying to reach its way into the region right now. you could be heading into a few sprinkles driving along i-66 or headed out that way especially going towards the shenandoah valley, but other than that more showers will develop as we continue into the afternoon. and we've got a big day of severe weather not only here but also into the midwest. here we've got maybe some small chances of some severe weather. that means we could have some pretty damaging winds, possibly some hail. so we'll watch for that as we get into the afternoon. the biggest risk, again, is going to be after about 2:00 or 3:00. here's a look at future weather. you can see those showers moving through our area after about 6:00. and then we even have a few lasting until late this evening. and then we'll keep some rain showers around for your wednesday unfortunately, and on thursday, and on friday. if you're headed
