indicating they fought back against their kill er or killer. more than 24 million people are at risk for severe weather today. residents in wichita, kansas, saw scattered lightning and hail and heavy rain. military planes at nearby mcconnell air force base were evacuated for caution. at kansas city's airport, hail came down and rain came down in sheets near st. louis causing flooding. more than 25,000 customers lost power in that region. to oklahoma, a powerful storm uprooted trees and tore the roofs off of homes. the storm in texas brought a steady stream of lightning and an apparent tornado that knocked over an 18-wheeler. let's get straight to meteorologist bill karins with a look at all that is going on. >> a mess but we avoided a strong tornado. that was great news. yesterday, we still had

severe weather outbreak but only five reports of tos. most of those were weak. look at the yellow dots and the blue dots on here. 263 reports of large hail and 155 reports of wind damage and wind gusts. the storm is still potent this morning. thunderstorms have weakened a little bit and watch boxes are trimmed here. the worst of it down in texas where the strongest storms are existing. these will try to roll through on san antonio and toward houston throughout the early morning hours. eventual into areas of louisiana. as far as tornado threat goes, that is really, really small at this point. let's get it to today. this line that we just watched will slowly dissipate and then regenerate a new line of storms. this area of yellow is a slight risk of severe weather goes from missouri and southern iowa back down along the mississippi river to houston and almost into the new orleans area. 24 million people are at risk of severe storms and we will see about half an hour to hour as these storms go through your area. large hail and damaging wind and isolated tornadoes. that's great. other areas could get
