new at 4:00, baltimore police fielding questions today after police shot a teenager who was carrying a fake gun. during a press conference, commissioner kevin davis said there are still many unanswered questions about this case. the 13-year-old was shot in the leg in east baltimore yesterday. he is expected to survive. police say two patrol officers saw the boy with what they thought was a firearm. it turned out to be a replica of a semiautomatic pistol. it's unclear which commands the officers gave, but the officers identified themselves and that the boy took off. >> they did what our community expects them to do. one of the hypothetical questions i'll pose is if a person is seen walking down a

troops had to stop fighting militants to maintain security in the capital. alexandria police are searching for a man. shots were fired inside a home on east reed avenue around 10:30 last night. police tried for hours to make contact with the man inside. police entered the home, but they didn't find anyone. they know who the suspected shooter is. volunteers are busy setting up the wall of hope for saturday's race for hope. the wall pays tribute to anyone who has been affected by brain cancer. it is going to be moved to freedom plaza on saturday morning right before the start of the race at 9:00. it's raised over $1.5 million so far this year and all the proceeds go to the national brain tumor society and the

details, about a bomb threat at a local tv station. >> police have subdued the man who entered the building. tisha thompson just got to baltimore. >> reporter: that's right. i'm at a finished up press conference where he explained at 1:30 this afternoon fox 45 had a white man in his 20s walk into the station. he wanted to give some information over to the tv station. things escalated to the point where the entire building was evacuated. there is some concern that the man might have what is bombs strapped to his body. there was arson at a nearby car. the man is laying on the ground. when he voluntarily started to leave the building, he was shot by

he wouldn't take his hand out of his pocket. they were concerned there was some kind of trigger mechanism that might cause bombs to explode. as a result, they're now using a robot that is moving in to try to pull his hand out of his pocket. that is happening right now. the man is injured, so they're trying to get his hand out, if for no other reason to get help medical help. instead of doing the newscast, they're standing here. they're trying to figure out how they're going to get the news on tonight. it does not appear many other buildings have been evacuated. i'm tisha thompson in baltimore, maryland. >> tisha is now on the phone with us. tisha, we understand you have some new information from the security guard who dealt with this man. what have you learned? >> that's right. just after we sent that shot in for you all, we talked to the gentleman who was standing in the security gate. he said the

20-something-year-old white man walked in and said he wanted to talk to somebody at fox 45 and he had a bomb on his body. the security guard hit what i guess you could call a panic button to inform staff there was an incident. he discreetly called 911 so police would be notified they were having a problem. staff began to evacuate the building very rapidly. he ended up speaking to the man, the suspect, for about 45 minutes. it became very apparent to him this gentleman wanted to talk to somebody. the security guard kept telling the man who claimed to have the bomb on his body that people were out at lunch right now, he would try to find somebody, they were trying to get ready for a newscast. he kept using these stalling tactics until police called him on the phone and said can you get out of the buiin

to which he said yes. he looked at the man and said i've got to go, but i'll be back. at that point, the security guard really teared up. i said you look like you're pretty upset about that. yeah, because he knew he wasn't coming back. it was very obvious to him that this man just wanted to talk to someone, obviously had troubles. he has some guilt about the fact that he left them, but he knew he had to get out of the building because this could be a bomb. nobody knows for sure if this is a bomb, but they have to act like it is. they don't want something to go off by accident. right now, i'm watching the fox 45 staff using a camera and a live shot kit. they're trying to anchor their newscast as we speak. there's a lot of standing around waiting to be told if it is safe to go back into the building. >> all right. tisha thompson

from the centers of disease control. researchers attribute the change to a 51% drop in teen births among hispanics and a 44% drop among blacks between the years 2006 and 2014. still birthrates as twice as high in those groups than white teens. it has dropped more than 40% over the past decade. the cdc says the u.s. has made remarkable progress, but too many teens are still having babies. community centered efforts are working, but there isn't a one size fits all answer to this problem. they highlight the importance of teen pregnancy prevention efforts, but consider things like unemployment and education for reducing disparities in teen birthrates. teen pregnancy and childbirth costs u.s. taxpayers $9 billion every year. on top of
