right now the storm team 4 radar scanning our sky not showing any rain around. just patchy drizzle. in the rural areas, a little fog. these blips of blue around la rey and then into the panhand panhandle's west virginia, around petersburg, a few sprinkles. otherwise, dry, cloudy, and still cool. the nearest rain is way off to the west in kentucky, indiana, illinois, and the heaviest rains along the mississippi river valley, tracking our way, but not arriving until late tonight. temperatures right now are hovering right around 50 degrees in the metro area, from the bay all the way into the mountains hovering near 50 degrees. look at the hour-by-hour timing on the rain arrival, coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, tom. a developing story this morning occupy prince george's county, a man is dead after a crash in fort washington, travling southbound nd

highway, lost control of his car and hit a guardrail. it happened right before 1:00 this morning. we're working to find out the victim's name and what led up to the crash. when we have that we'll have it for you here. and a big training exercise happening today. it's going to be at reagan national airport, where you're looking live this morning. beginning at 9:00, crews are holding a full-scare emergency prepar preparedness drill expected to last until june simulating an aircraft accident, done in a remote part of the airport and should not effect any regular travel. the death of a missing alexandria women is now a homicide. lizeth yadira lopez was found in a ditch yesterday morning, more than a mile from where last seen. her sister spoke to her just before she entered that cvs, on

victim. he has begun a two-year jail term this month. it's 6:04. the man shot and wounded by police during a television standoff in baltimore is now facing charges. alex brizy walked into the station wearing an animal costume and life preserver disguised to look like an explosive vest. his father said his son thought the world was and ending and he was trying to get the world out. the explosives were chocolate bars connected to some wires. after leaving the television station, he was ordered to stop but kept going towards the officers, and that is when a sniper shot him. and a vigil to remember those killed in the rhoden family. funerals under way this week.

ish. he lost his life serving many of you. his community now a memorial bear the name of fallen firefighter john ulmschneider. his name added to the county's memorial in landover hills. a resident shot and killed ulmschneider two weeks ago. he was responding to a call. the surviving firefighter, kevin swain's mother was at the ceremony. >> we're very sad for the ulmschneider family, grateful for our son who is here and thankful for the firefighter that reached out to us and people we don't even know. >> also observing a moment of silence at 7:51, which was the exact time of the deadly

shooting. amtrak won't be allowed power to impose rail standards on other private railroads. the u.s. court of appeals ruled it's unconstitutional to give a self-interested company regulatory power over competitors. a 2008 law suggested it work with federal regulators creating standards helping to keep trains running on time. the railroad industry objected and file add lawsuit challenging amtrak's authority. a man killed after being hit head-on. details all new this happening in anne arundel county. he was traveling over the speed limit, an officer tried to stop him, when they say he sped up, took the 170 ramp into dorsey road, and there he hit an yo oncoming vehicle. we're working to find out the kna name of's man who was killed. a few of us ha

rain. that is way out in the midwest. most of the heavy rain you see there on the right of your screen that is along the miissippi river valley, but it is tracking towards the east-northeast are and will be getting closer to us later this evening. new model timing just coming in on the hour-by-hour look at the rain as it arrives and leaves. i'll have that for you in a couple of minutes. >> tom, thank you. right now, the cleanup is underway in parts of central and southern oklahoma after dangerous storms whipped through the area. take a look at some of this video we got. at least two tornadoes touched down. the storm tore through homes sending residents running for shelter. reported wind gusts up to 115 miles per hour, strong enough to overturn trucks and force police to shut down a 20-mile stretch of the interstate freeway. the fight against the zika virus, puerto rico reported its first zika-related d

a 70-year-old man died from the virus and complications. a test for the virus could be made available to certain labs by next week. maryland has more funding for zika prevention. $250,000 to fund the effort and stepping up public education with a page on a website and an ad campaign. a cruise ship cut short its trip and headed back to port norfolk. it came in thursday night. some passenger was so weak they couldn't disembark until yesterday. dozens of passengers and crews on the "balmoral" reported getting sick over the two-week voyage. the ship ditched a plan that was supposed to stop in bermuda and returned to port early because of the norovirus. some passenger spent 48 hours quantity teened in their room. the department of justice investigates a deadly

underscore, culver. thousands of children end up in foster care because their parents got locked up for drug abuse or child neglect. there's a program called family treatment court that's helping reunite those families rather than tear them apart. >> dead. i would be dead. >> reporter: ebony marsh has seven children and suffers from mental health issues as well as a drug addiction. more than a year and a half ago, things had gotten so bad at home she was in danger of having her children taken away and put into foster care. that's when her daughter stepped up and gave her mom a choice. get help, or lose her family. >> i wouldn't let my mom come around my daughter. i wouldn't let her touch her. you can't come in my room, and it hurt me. >> she had the strength to call and get me help. i didn't -- wasn't able to do it on my own. >> reporter: marsh was offered the opportunity to ent are the d.c. superior court's

treatment court p. a 15-month program providing drug counseling and other support. along with five other women, marsh graduated as her family watched. >> and i'm proud of her. i'm at a loss for -- i knew she could do it. she just needed the push and i was the push. >> reporter: marsh and her children be back together, just like the other families celebrating. judge pamela gray says family court has been saving families for 14 years now. >> we do get the children back home a lot faster and less of trauma. >> it was a struggle getting here, but i made it. >> reporter: she made it with the help of this program, and the support of her family. >> i love you, baby. >> reporter: at d.c. superior court, mark segraves, news 4. today comcast employees will be working for you in the community as part of comcast cares day.

rural areas. the main area of rain is way out here in the midwest. it's along the mississippi river valley. leading edge of that, a few sprinkles coming into southern west virginia and kentucky, but most of this heavier rain is not going to arrive here until late tonight. so starting off cool. temperatures hovering around 50 degrees. you're going to get sersz exerc, get in a run, upper 50s by 11:00. hovering around 60 by noon. the broccoli city festival stays dry at the gateway center, d.c., in southeast washington, run being from noon and a lot of great bands, live music and great information on healthy living. well, as we look at the future weather, the areas you see in green, those are showers not moving in until late tonight, sunday morning. most of the showers off and on during the morning hours on sunday will taper off and maybe another round coming in on sunday

[ cheers and applause ] well-deserved applause after a baby is pull aid live from the rubble, but rescuers, they're still trying to reach others trapped by a building collapse in kenya's capital. at least seven people are dead. more than 100 injured. the six-story building collapsed yesterday after heavy rain and flooding hit that area. kenya is in the midst of its april-may rainy season. a astronomers in europe discovered a comet without a tail. it is the first of its kind and it's made of rocky materials from the inner solar system, they say. they created this animation. take a look. it shows how the comet was formed 4 billion years ago. it was first discovered back in 2014 by a network of telescopes that scours the night skies. it is called minx. did i say that right? >> kind of like spanx. >>
