why something as simple as crossing the street is being called dangerous. getting ready for a major announcement from metro that could affect your commute, but for how long? >> news 4 at 11:00 begins with breaking news. and that breaking news tonight, a jury found a man guilty of first-degree murder in the gruesome death of a virginia college student. >> just moments ago, we learned they are recommending life in prison plus 11 years. the victim's father told jurors about the devastating impact about losing his only child, his daughter. jurors cried passing around tissues as thomas mann talked about the phone call he received that grace had been killed, strangled by her house mate. it was 13 months ago and i keep living it every day

intersection in rockville but a deadly crash there over the weekend has some calling for more tonight. jackie bensen is live tonight. what's the problem there? >> the most recent collision here in the 600 block of east gude drive, just this morning. these images show the aftermath of a collision this morning that caused a lot of damage to the two cars involved but luckily no one was injured. that was not the case on saturday night. around 11:30, a 57-year-old man in a wheelchair, trying to navigate this cross walk was struck by a car. he died a few hours later. his name has not been made public but susie sinclair smith said he was headed to the shelter which is located on the same block. >> one client coming in an out of the shelter since 2009 was a double amputee, had throat

june. . news about metro's general manager getting ready to make a major announcement about a maintenance plan that could shut down sections of the rail line for extended period of time. the announcement could come as early as friday and the metro board will be briefed on the plan in the coming days. the general manager said he doesn't think that large sections of the rail line will have to be closed but parts of track in between stations may be closed and buses could carry riders around those closures. another possibility is that metro may open later or close earlier on the weekends so that maintenance crews have more time and work to get in to the system. no timetable about when that plan will actually take effect but we will stay on top of any details as they are available. back to you. the transportation security administration says it is working to cut down on your wait time at airport

officers at the security check points for the busy summer season. they are encouraging businesses to give employees incentives to enroll in the tsa pre-check program. the tsa says we're seeing an increase in passengers because of low airfare prices, a stronger economy and an increase in leisure travel. i'm here in prince georges county where an emotional ceremony honoring officers who lost their lives in the line of duty just wrapped up. >> charles f. caldwell. >> reporter: tonight the names of all officers who died while protecting the citizens of the county were called and a candle lit in their honor. the department says since 1932, 54 officers were killed, the most recent being officer coleson who died march 13th, during a shootout with a suspect hen his fellow officers. fighting back tears his parents t

a fiery scene at a northern virginia diner today. the driver of a hummer repeatedly deliberately rammed the entrance. the driver pinned the man the second time he crashed in to the silver diner in mclean. the third time the suv burst in to flames. several people went to the hospital. the restaurant said the driver was a cook who had been on bereavement leave. he was fired and charges are pending. imagine driving down the highway and suddenly
